191. Stopping the car

191. Stopping the car

Several more days passed.

Wenhua Hall.

The young prince stood on the stone steps again, speaking with great authority to the little dumpling about "important matters of the court."

"Little Moon, let me tell you, the Duke of Anguo is really powerful now!" The little prince cleared his throat, deliberately lowering his voice, but couldn't hide his excitement. "Father is now helping the Duke of Anguo. The old prime minister is suffering defeat after defeat. Yesterday in court, Father praised the Duke of Anguo for being reliable in handling affairs in front of everyone. The old prime minister stood to the side, his face turned green, and he didn't dare to say a word!"

Upon hearing this, the little dumpling frowned instantly: "But... Duke Anguo is a bad person. He even wanted to send Big Sister away before, so why is the Emperor helping him?"

"Uh... this..." The young prince thought for a moment and then said with certainty, "Father is playing hard to get! You see, if Father helps Duke Anguo, the old prime minister will be even more anxious and might do something foolish. Then Father can seize the old prime minister's weakness and remove him from office! After dealing with the old prime minister, then deal with Duke Anguo. This is killing two birds with one stone!"

In fact, he didn't understand why his father was helping the Duke of Anguo.

But in order to keep the little dumpling from being unhappy, he made up an excuse for his father.

But the little dumpling was even more confused. She pouted and her little face puffed up with anger: "But Yue'er still doesn't like Duke Anguo. If he continues to be so powerful, won't big sister be in more danger?"

"No, no, no!" the young prince patted his chest and assured him, "I'll have Father protect Miss Lin then!"

He himself wasn't sure about this, as he had no chance to mention Lin Lingrong to his father. But seeing the little girl's worried expression, he couldn't help but want to comfort her.

The little dumpling nodded with some doubt, but still kept Lin Lingrong in mind.

After the break, the children returned to the Wenhua Hall.

The little dumpling sat in its seat, somewhat lost in thought.

She didn't know if the little prince was telling the truth or not; she just hoped that her older sister wouldn't have to go to the Prince of Shu's residence.

-

Soon it was time to get out of school. Today, people from the Marquis of Beiding's residence came to pick up Little Dumpling and her second brother.

As I passed through a bustling alley, I suddenly saw a group of people in uniforms gathered in front of me, and I could vaguely hear some of them talking excitedly.

"What's going on? Second brother, let's go see!" The little dumpling curiously pulled her second brother's hand, got off the carriage, squeezed to the front of the crowd, and immediately saw Dou Shichen inside.

He was wearing a brand-new brocade robe and was directing several servants to pack things up. There were several large boxes beside him, and his face was full of excitement.

"Shining Bean Prince!" the little dumpling exclaimed in surprise.

Dou Shichen heard the sound, turned around and saw the little dumpling and his second brother.

He seemed to be in a great mood, not only giving them a smile that was unusual for him, but even waving with a laugh: "Princess Fukang? What are you doing here?"

"Moon just got out of school and is getting ready to go home," the little dumpling walked up to him, looking curiously at the boxes. "Shining Bean Prince, what are you packing up for?"

"I'm going home!" Dou Shichen's eyes were shining. "Xie Wenling has already spoken to the emperor, and the emperor has agreed to let me go home and stay for a while. I can finally leave this wretched place!"

As he spoke, he patted the box next to him forcefully: "These are all my things. I'm leaving first thing tomorrow morning and I'm never coming back!"

"Really?" The little dumpling's eyes widened in surprise. "Shining Bean Prince, you're going home? You're not coming back?"

"Come back? No way!" Dou Shichen pouted, utterly disgusted. "This place is awful! Absolutely awful! I swear, after I go home this time, I'll never set foot in the capital again. If I ever come back, I'll be a dog!"

"Oh..." The little dumpling didn't know what to call her current feelings.

She felt a little disappointed that she had lost another friend.

Although Shiny Bean Prince can be annoying at times, he can also be alright.

But she was also very happy that he could go home and be with his parents.

She thought for a moment, then gave Dou Shichen a sweet smile and said, "Congratulations, you shining bright bean prince."

-

Several more days passed.

The morning reading in Wenhua Hall had just stopped when the little boy, like a little sparrow, chirped around the little prince, asking, "Little prince, little prince, what happened in court today? Did the old prime minister argue with the Duke of Anguo again?"

The young prince loved this feeling and immediately spoke proudly: "Little Moon, let me tell you, the old prime minister is in a terrible state now! Many of his subordinates have been dismissed by the emperor. I heard that yesterday in court, the old prime minister could barely stand. He seemed to be sick and was coughing very badly. He was helped away before the meeting was over! It is said that he is so ill that he can't even attend court anymore."

"The old prime minister is sick? Then... then isn't the Duke of Anguo even more powerful?"

"That's right! Duke Anguo is quite arrogant now. Yesterday, he was telling Father Emperor in court that he wanted to rectify the court. I heard from the eunuch beside me that Duke Anguo has started keeping an eye on Lord Xie, as if he wants to cause trouble for Lord Xie!"

"Oh," the little dumpling said worriedly, "Why are you causing trouble for Brother Xie?"

"Who knows! Maybe the Duke of Anguo feels that Lord Xie is blocking his way! But don't worry, Lord Xie is so capable, he'll definitely be fine!"

How could the little dumpling not be worried? She was restless all afternoon and couldn't even concentrate on Qu Zijin's lecture.

After a long wait, school was over. She carried her little bag and ran quickly out of Wenhua Hall. In the distance, she saw Xie Wenling standing by the carriage waiting for her and her second brother.

"Thank you, Brother Xie!" The little dumpling ran over, tugging at Xie Wenling's sleeve, her face full of worry. "The little prince said that the Duke of Anguo is going to cause you trouble. Will you be in trouble?"

Xie Wenling looked down at her, smiled, and patted her head: "The Duke of Anguo can't do anything to me, so don't worry."

The second brother chimed in, "Yes, little sister, Brother Xie is very capable, nothing will happen to you."

But the little dumpling was still worried. She followed Xie Wenling into the carriage, her little brows furrowed the whole way, and she would steal a glance at Xie Wenling from time to time.

Xie Wenling sat upright, his skin was fair with a rosy glow, and his eyes were clear.

Brother Xie looks perfectly healthy now.

Look at the hands again... The little dumpling nodded. Good, both hands are there.

Then I looked at my feet, and both feet were there.

The little dumpling felt a tiny bit relieved, but only a tiny bit.

She soon began to worry again: what if one day, Brother Xie also fell ill and couldn't get out of bed?

The carriage soon arrived at the gate of the Marquis of Beiding's residence. The second brother jumped off the carriage lightly, and Xie Wenling also prepared to take the little dumpling down.

However, the little girl clung tightly to Xie Wenling's hand, using her hands and feet like a little sloth: "Brother Xie, Yue'er doesn't want to get off the carriage... Yue'er is afraid that Brother Xie will get sick like the old prime minister. Yue'er still wants to play with Brother Xie."

Xie Wenling was stunned for a moment, then picked her up.

He knew what she was thinking.

She would steal glances at him every now and then along the way, and he noticed it all.

Xie Wenling now realizes that he has been very busy lately and has not spent much time playing with her: "How about I take you for a drive? We can come back when you want to go home."

The little dumpling nodded immediately, as if afraid he would change his mind.

Xie Wenling told the steward, and then the carriage turned around and headed towards the outskirts of the city.

As the sun sets, its golden rays fall upon the carriage, and yellow leaves rustle down from the trees in the wind.

The little boy leaned against the car window, looking at the scenery outside, his worries undiminished.

However, her concerns seem to be valid.

As the carriage approached a secluded grove of trees, a group of people suddenly rushed out and blocked their path.

The coachman immediately stopped the carriage and shouted warily, "Who are you? How dare you stop Lord Xie's carriage!"

All of this was clearly beyond Xie Wenling's expectations. He immediately realized something, and his expression suddenly tightened.

Lifting the carriage curtain, he saw the old prime minister standing in front of the crowd, his face pale, but his eyes sharp as he looked at him.

"Your Excellency," Xie Wenling said in a deep voice, "what are you trying to do by stopping my carriage so late at night?"

The old prime minister walked straight past him and looked at the little dumpling behind him.

The little girl hid behind Xie Wenling in fear. Xie Wenling gently patted her to comfort her, but a dark anger rose in his heart.

He stared intently at the old prime minister, then suddenly spoke, seemingly offering advice but actually mocking: "Look at the prime minister's appearance, does he perhaps intend to perish with me? If so, you've come to the wrong person; you should be looking for the Duke of Anguo."

The old prime minister coughed a few times, his voice hoarse: "Xie Wenling, stop pretending. The Duke of Anguo and I fought to the death, and wasn't that all your doing? Do you think I don't know?"
