The sky always gets dark earlier in early autumn than in the height of summer. After lunch, I parted on bad terms with Lu Ziyin, and I didn't see him again for the entire afternoon.
Ding Kemeng didn't know how she felt, but she was definitely not comfortable.
After school in the evening, Ding Kemeng didn't waste any time and went home early.
Ding's mother left work early, chatted with a few stay-at-home moms who lived nearby for a while on the way home, and then went home. As soon as she opened the door, she found her daughter sitting blankly on the sofa, staring at her phone, seemingly lost in thought.
"Sweetie, what are you doing? Have you finished your homework?" Ding's mother put the vegetable basket in the kitchen, took an apron from the hook, and asked as she put it on.
Ding Kemeng glanced at her phone one last time. Lu Ziyin's profile picture was still black. She still couldn't figure out what she had done to make him angry, but the stalemate felt awkward.
"Mom, I think I said something wrong today and upset my deskmate." Ding Kemeng subconsciously wanted her mother to help her make a decision.
Ding's mother had already washed the vegetables and was about to chop them. She wasn't surprised to hear her daughter's question and casually replied, "Then just apologize. It's not a big deal. Just try to get along better with your classmates and be more accommodating in small matters."
An apology...
Ding Kemeng thought about it and felt that her mother made a lot of sense. Although she was not quite sure what her mother had done wrong, Ding Kemeng thought it shouldn't be difficult to explain, based on the scenes of her father apologizing to her mother every time.
Unlocking her phone, Ding Kemeng clicked on Lu Ziyin's profile picture: [Lu Ziyin, I'm sorry, I won't make you angry again next time, please forgive me!]
After sending the message, Ding Kemeng felt much better. "Mom, I just apologized to him!"
Ding's mother swiftly wielded the knife, working so fast she didn't even look up. "It's good that you apologized. Have you finished your homework? Hurry up and finish it so your dad can come back later and we can have dinner together."
"Okay!" Ding Kemeng didn't mind her mother's perfunctory attitude. She put away her phone and happily went upstairs to do her homework.
The early autumn sunset was completely obscured by darkness when Mr. Ding returned home with weary steps.
Pushing open the door, he was greeted by a table laden with fragrant food. His wife and daughter were waiting for him with beaming smiles. Suddenly, Mr. Ding felt as if all the fatigue of the day had vanished. He first gave his wife a gentle kiss, then turned and gave Ding Kemeng a big hug. "Our Mengmeng is truly Daddy's little darling. Daddy was quite tired, but seeing our Mengmeng, Daddy is instantly refreshed!"
Ding Kemeng hugged her father back, smiled, and said, "Dad, theoretically speaking, just looking at me won't make my fatigue disappear, but I'm still very happy that you said that!"
"Ah...hahaha, as long as you're happy!" Mr. Ding was just saying it casually, but he didn't expect Ding Kemeng to answer him so seriously, which made him a little embarrassed.
"Let's eat! Let's eat first!"
Ding's mother brought the last dish to the table, and the family finally began their dinner.
The Ding family didn't have any rules about not talking while eating. Mr. and Mrs. Ding were chatting quietly about work when they saw Ding Kemeng eating obediently. Mr. Ding suddenly remembered the message he received on his phone earlier that day and asked, "Mengmeng, do you have your midterm exams coming up?"
Ding Kemeng swallowed the rice in her mouth and looked up: "Yeah, I have an exam tomorrow."
"Are you confident?" Mr. Ding actually thought the question was a bit pointless, since his daughter's grades were truly excellent, barring any external factors!
"I will do my best on the exam." Mr. Ding wasn't particularly demanding of Ding Kemeng's grades, but her mother was more concerned. Last month, she missed the exam due to illness, and while her mother didn't say anything, Ding Kemeng knew she wasn't happy. Therefore, she would definitely do her best on this midterm exam!
"Just do your best, Mom believes in you!" Ding's mother knew that her daughter wanted to make her happy, and she was touched. She then added a few more bites of food to Ding Kemeng's plate.
"Mom will prepare breakfast for you tomorrow morning so you can get good grades on your exam!"
"Thank you, Mom!"
After leaving the principal's office, Lu Ziyin skipped class and wandered around outside all day. Finally, she got bored and went to her usual internet cafe near the school to turn on a computer.
She had intended to play some games, but found it too boring to play alone. She sat in the internet cafe for more than two hours until school was over before slowly leaving the internet cafe and going home.
When he got home, Ruan Ruan's increasingly fat dog still didn't like him. It would pounce on him and try to bite him whenever it saw him. Lu Ziyin wasn't in the mood to play with it, so he went around Ruan Ruan and went back to his bedroom.
Lying in bed, Lu Ziyin stared blankly at the ceiling, somewhat lost.
After a while, Lu Ziyin touched her phone, wanting to go online to check the forum, but after a while, she realized that her phone was out of battery.
Lu Ziyin rubbed her head in frustration, tossed her phone aside, got up, grabbed her pajamas from the closet, and went into the bathroom to take a shower.
That evening, Lu's father did not come home for dinner again. At the dinner table, apart from Wen Lan occasionally saying a few words and Lu Zichen responding a couple of times, there was no other sound.
Wen Lan thought of the message she received on her phone today, glanced at Lu Ziyin, hesitated for a moment, and finally spoke up: "Ziyin, don't you have your midterm exams coming up?"
Upon hearing Wen Lan's question, Lu Ziyin paused in her chopsticks, then looked up and said, "Yes."
Wen Lan met Lu Ziyin's gloomy gaze and felt a little nervous: "Have you been studying hard? Your father said he would be attending the parent-teacher conference after the midterm exams." Ziyin's grades are poor, and he is unwilling to study hard. Every time his father receives his grades at the parent-teacher conference, he gets extremely angry.
Wen Lan was worried that Lu Ziyin might not do well on the exam again, and if Lu's father received a zero score on the test paper again at the parent-teacher conference, the father and son might have another big fight.
"It doesn't matter whether I review or not, my grades are what they are." Lu Ziyin didn't like talking about his grades with others, and besides, he knew his own learning situation well; he couldn't concentrate on studying and didn't want to.
After quickly finishing her meal, Lu Ziyin coldly tossed out a sentence, got up, and went back upstairs.
Wen Lan watched Lu Ziyin's hurried departure, sighed, and remained silent.
Lu Zichen was still secretly feeding Ruan Ruan when he heard his mother sigh. He quickly asked with concern, "Mom, are you unhappy?"
"It's okay, Chenchen, just eat your food." Wen Lan didn't want her emotions to affect the child, so she patted Lu Zichen's head and smiled, "Hurry up and eat, don't secretly feed Ruan Ruan anymore."
"Oh." When Lu Zichen realized that he had been caught secretly feeding Ruan Ruan, his face turned red, he stuck out his tongue, and quickly picked up his chopsticks to concentrate on eating and stopped talking.
