Chapter 310: A Surprise, Not a Shock
"Are you waiting for someone?"
Liang Zhouheng asked politely.
Song Cun's face turned red instantly, but the light in the corridor outside the door was not that bright, which mostly concealed her momentary panic.
She spoke a little later: "Brother Liang, why are you here?"
The corners of his lips curled up slightly, "Is it polite for you to ask that?"
Song Cun's face burned, and he hurried to explain, "I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. I just didn't expect you to come over so late."
“So they’re not going to let me in.”
Liang Zhouheng lowered his head slightly, staring straight at her face.
Song Cun was in a panic, lowered his head and dodged, inviting him into the house, "That's not what I meant, please come in."
She was not a smart talker to begin with, and when he stared at her in front of her, she became even dumber, unable to even utter a nice polite word.
The smile on the corner of his lips gradually faded, and he looked as if he didn't blame her at all. He raised his foot and took a big step into the house.
Song Cun quickly closed the door behind him, then followed him a few steps, walked in front of him, pulled a chair at the dining table, and asked him to sit down.
"I was just about to cut the cake and didn't expect you to come over."
When she got nervous, her brain became confused and she repeated Che Gulu's words again.
She really didn't expect him to come so suddenly. He said he would ask someone to send a cake over, but he didn't say he would come too.
Her hair was loose and she was only wearing a loose cotton nightgown. She had taken a shower and was about to go to bed, but he asked someone to bring a cake, so she got out of bed again.
He leaned back in his chair, draped his right leg over his left, and shifted his gaze from the candles on the table to her eyes. "I was worried you'd be too lonely blowing out the candles and making a wish by yourself, so I came here on a whim. I didn't have time to tell you."
His tone was as nonchalant as usual, but the way he looked at her was very different from usual, heavy and deep, as if it was unfathomable.
Song Cun couldn't stand his gaze at all. After only three seconds of staring at him, he quickly looked away.
She subconsciously recalled the sentence in the WeChat dialog box that almost made her breathe stop, "I miss you, I want to see you."
She didn't know how many times she had repeated this sentence in her mind. She tapped the screen with her fingers, which were numb. She changed and deleted, deleted and changed again. When she didn't know how to respond, he explained lightly that he was drunk and sent the wrong message.
Song Cun knew that he shouldn't think about irrelevant things, but he had someone send her a cake and suddenly showed up at her door in the middle of the night. Was he really just sympathizing with her because she felt lonely celebrating her birthday alone?
Did he really send the wrong message?
Song Cun could feel that in these few short seconds, her own heartbeat was accelerating at an uncontrollable rate.
"Why, it seems that you are unhappy that I came here. Did I bother you?"
He tilted his head slightly to catch her gaze, leaving her no room to avoid his gaze.
She raised her eyes quickly, shook her head and denied it, "No."
"If it's not a shock, then is it a surprise?"
He stared at her without blinking.
Song Cun felt like sitting on pins and needles. His eyes were like electric currents, piercing through the air and flowing straight into her brain, stimulating her nerves again and again, making her feel hot and anxious.
How could she answer his question? Besides, what kind of question was that? Could she admit it?
Is it a surprise?
How could it not be? She was almost going crazy.
