Chapter 326: Finding something to talk about
The car was driving smoothly. Jiang Yuan turned his head silently to look out the window. The road was unusually quiet late at night, and street lights flashed past him one by one.
There wasn't much to see outside, but the atmosphere inside the car made her uneasy.
“What do you want to say?”
She turned her head and looked at his angular profile.
The car was not driving fast. He put his hands on the steering wheel and looked ahead. After two seconds, he said, "Are you still short of money recently?"
Jiang Yuan was visibly stunned for a moment, and then his expression began to harden. "What do you mean?"
He had often insulted her with words about being short of money before, so she would habitually be on guard whenever she heard it.
He turned around and glanced at her. "If you need money, feel free to call Zhou Zhi."
His expression was calm as usual, without a trace of joking.
Jiang Yuan lowered her head and replied, "No, thank you."
She paused, then continued, "I haven't forgotten the 2 million I owed you. I may have to pay it back to you slowly over time."
He frowned slightly, "No need to return it."
Jiang Yuan insisted: "I will pay it back, otherwise, I will really become something bad."
After she finished speaking, both of their faces turned cold.
Her bones are harder than before.
When she was with him before, she had acted like a spoiled child and asked him for a position. She also accepted the money and gifts he gave her. But after they broke up, she simply quit her job and didn't take any of the gifts when she left. She even settled the accounts with him for the 2 million yuan he paid off her debts.
He knew that she was still holding a grudge against him for the insults he had said to her before, and her vengeful nature had not changed at all.
There was a breath stuck in his chest, neither rising nor falling. After a while, he slowly pushed it down. He spoke again, "Is your friend's father's surgery finished?"
Jiang Yuan's face froze. Zhang Xiaoya's father had nothing to do with him, yet he still remembered her.
"Done."
"smoothly?"
Jiang Yuan turned her head towards him, suppressed her surprise, and simply replied, "Yeah, it went smoothly."
As she finished her voice, the car fell silent again.
"Haven't you been out singing lately?"
He brought up a new topic.
Jiang Yuan's heart twisted and he shook his head, "No."
"Is your new job going well?"
Jiang Yuan finally interrupted his idle chatter and said, "I want to sleep for a while."
After saying that, she closed her eyes, leaned her head against the seat, and turned her face to the window.
Something suddenly sank from the bottom of his eyes.
20 minutes later, the car arrived at the entrance of the community.
Jiang Yuan opened his eyes in advance and said calmly, "The road inside is narrow, just stop here."
He stepped on the brakes to stop the car.
Jiang Yuan unbuckled her seatbelt and reached out to push the car door. She paused for a moment and said, "I'll leave Song Cun and Mr. Liang's matters to you. Thank you."
She didn't hear any response and looked up at him. He was looking at her with a serious look in his eyes. The restrained emotion between his brows made it hard to tell whether it was loneliness or not.
Her heart felt like it was burned, and she couldn't help but feel her heart shrink. She tried to say goodbye calmly, "I'm getting off. Goodbye."
After getting out of the car, she couldn't help but look back through the passenger window. He had turned his face away, and only the sharp outline of his face could be seen.
Jiang Yuan walked forward quickly, as if eager to leave everything behind.
After entering the gate of the community, she still felt a breathless feeling. Her heart seemed to be wrapped tightly, depressed and slightly sore.
"Beauty, you're back so late, what have you been doing?"
The neighborhood was deserted late at night. The voice of a strange man suddenly came through the quiet air, making people's hair stand on end instantly.
