Chapter 588: Staying Overnight
Xu Hui was extremely hungry and was no longer polite this time.
Just as she stuffed a steamed bun into her mouth, she heard a noise from the bedroom. She looked up and saw Ji Chuan walking towards her again, holding a box in his hand.
He saw her ferocious eating behavior without any concealment.
She forced a smile awkwardly, but he didn't look at her. He strode over, put the things in his hands on the table, and reached out to take his cell phone from the table.
Xu Hui quickly swallowed the food in her mouth and glanced at the box. It turned out to be a medicine box, specially sent to her?
She paused and called him, "I forgot to ask you, when will I go to work?"
He turned back and kept his gaze on her for a few seconds.
She sat on the ground with her slender legs crossed. She wore his ordinary white shirt in a winding shape, and the long cuffs were rolled up several times to her elbows. The redness and swelling on her cheeks were still glaring, but she had eaten with relish.
He calmly withdrew his gaze, and involuntarily asked, "When do you want to go?"
He was already tall, and since he was standing, from the angle they were standing at, Xu Hui could only crane his neck to look at him. "Didn't you say before that you were short of a receptionist? The sooner I get in, the better."
He lowered his eyes and looked at her for two seconds, then said, "You're sitting at the front desk with such a face. Are you helping me or ruining my reputation?"
Xu Hui was so happy that he forgot the situation on his face.
"Okay, then I'll go when I can see people again."
He didn't reply to her, but lowered his head and walked towards the bedroom with his phone.
Xu Hui took a look at the medicine box. When he opened it, he saw medicines for reducing swelling and relieving pain on the top, some for oral use and some for topical use.
With a slight curl of her lips, she picked up another steamed bun and stuffed it into her mouth. While eating, she took the medicine box and carefully read the instructions.
As she ate, she couldn't help but go over what happened that night in her mind again. After thinking about it, she found that she still didn't understand the initial doubt. Why did Ji Chuan force Sui Zhongyuan to drink? She asked him just now, but he didn't seem to explain it clearly.
The bedroom was quiet and she suspected that he was already asleep.
Asking him again would definitely annoy him, so she silently put aside this doubt and guessed that maybe he was already unhappy with Sui Zhongyuan, otherwise why didn't he take Zhongyuan's case?
After Xu Hui had eaten and drunk his fill, he cleaned the table and put the remaining food into his refrigerator.
She took the medicine and applied the ointment, then sat on the sofa and ordered a pair of shoes and a pair of pants using a mobile app.
About half an hour later, the doorbell rang again.
Afraid that the noise would wake someone up, she quickly ran over and opened the door. She took the item from the deliveryman, thanked him in a low voice, and then tiptoed to close the door.
"You're leaving?"
Before she turned around, she was suddenly frightened.
"You scared me. Why aren't you asleep yet?" She turned over, her face still showing shock.
He saw that she was holding a bag and guessed what was inside.
Xu Hui estimated the time. He had been in there for almost two hours and still hadn't fallen asleep. Subconsciously, he asked, "Are you suffering from insomnia?"
He looked at her coldly, ignored her question, and said lightly: "You are really troublesome in the middle of the night."
"Did I wake you up? Sorry, I bought some clothes and shoes, but it's still raining outside. I plan to leave as soon as I get up tomorrow morning. Sorry to bother you."
She put on a smile and apologized to him in a gentle voice, just like she was serving her financial sponsor.
He turned and walked towards the bedroom, ordering her as he walked, "Turn off the lights."
"Close it now."
Xu Hui followed him, quietly turning off all the lights in the living room one by one, and then went into the guest bedroom.
