Chapter 60 Fever
Ren Fenghe hates rain.
It hasn't rained since we came here in December.
She once thought about a question: if it rained, would her legs still hurt?
That shouldn’t happen, right?
She is using Zhang Tuanyuan's body, and her brain of course also belongs to Zhang Tuanyuan. Her brain will make her legs hurt more than usual on rainy days, but Zhang Tuanyuan's brain should not.
Ren Fenghe's doubts were answered.
It hurts. It still hurts.
The sound of rain hitting the window woke Ren Fenghe up. In the darkness, he couldn't see her flushed face, but could only hear her breathing which became extremely difficult and weak.
She has a fever.
Ren Fenghe felt a strong discomfort in his body and came to this conclusion.
She often had fever during the period after the operation. When she had a fever, people around her became quiet and wouldn't say things like "I'm sorry" or "Think positively" that would only hurt her again.
At that time, she was enjoying the feverish feeling in a twisted way.
But at this moment, she didn't want to have a fever at all.
Her right leg was stretched out on the bed, and she didn't dare reach down or curl her leg up.
If her eyes had not adapted to the darkness and could vaguely see her surroundings, making her sure that she was still in Zhang Tuanyuan's body, the pain in her right leg would have made her think that she had returned to her own body.
Just hold on, the fever will be gone when you wake up tomorrow, Ren Fenghe thought.
Be patient.
She turned her head and could see the quilt arched up on the ground.
Jiang Shen was sleeping inside.
He must have been worried about her, so he slept next to her.
Ren Fenghe, don't always make people worry. If I take you to the hospital, Jiang Shen might expose himself.
Ren Fenghe said this to himself.
But it really hurt. Ren Fenghe looked at the ceiling blankly, not understanding why his legs still hurt.
As the pain went on, the little body adapted to the pain, and coupled with the fever, all senses became slowed down.
She fell asleep again, but her sleep was restless.
Tick-tick, tick-tick!
The rain was getting heavier, hitting the windows hard.
Jiang Shen, who had fallen into a deep sleep after a tiring day, also woke up.
After waking up, he sat up and almost subconsciously put the back of his hand on Ren Fenghe's forehead to confirm her body temperature.
But it was too dark around, and his hand did not reach his forehead, but fell on the side of Ren Fenghe's face.
It was wet, like the rain outside flowing onto her face and soaking her.
Jiang Shen woke up completely. He threw back the quilt and turned on the night light beside the bed.
The child, who was usually full of energy and fighting spirit, was now sleeping uneasily, with tears streaming uncontrollably from the corners of his eyes, wetting the sides of his face, ears, and hair at the temples.
Jiang Shen quickly took her temperature.
The temperature on the wooden warehouse screen showed 39 degrees Celsius.
She had a fever, a high one.
Jiang Shen quickly turned on the headlights, but the sudden white light failed to wake up the feverish child, and she fell into a nightmare.
Jiang Shen knew that the temperature meter was not accurate enough, so he hurriedly took the mercury thermometer and clamped it under Ren Fenghe's armpit, then wrapped Ren Fenghe in his coat and hugged him tightly.
Not caring that it was cold at night and having to put on a coat, he put on the sweatshirt and pants that he usually wore as pajamas. He hugged Ren Fenghe tightly with one hand, grabbed the car keys and ID with the other hand and stuffed them into his pocket, put on his shoes, put on a mask, and hurried to the parking lot.
When he came to the car, he took out the mercury thermometer.
38.5 degrees Celsius.
Jiang Shen had no idea how many degrees Celsius was considered a high fever for a child, but he knew how uncomfortable this temperature would be for an adult.
He had performed on various stages many times with this body temperature, and every time he went off the stage, he would hold the arm of his teammates to prevent himself from fainting on the ground.
He put Ren Fenghe in the child seat and drove hurriedly to the nearest hospital.
In the early hours of the morning, raindrops were dripping, the low beam headlights could not illuminate the entire night, it was gloomy everywhere, the rain climbed up through the car windows and pressed on the roof.
Jiang Shen drove to the nearest hospital, picked up Ren Fenghe and rushed to the emergency room.
Jiang Shen, with blonde hair, holding a child in one hand and a wet umbrella in the other, rushed into the emergency room and instantly attracted the attention of people around him.
It was clearly a rainy night, but there were quite a few people in the emergency room. Most of them are parents with children.
The mask covered his mouth and nose. After parking the car, he ran over with Ren Fenghe in one hand. Jiang Shen's breathing was very unstable and his shoulders began to hurt again.
He didn't care about all that and quickly took a number and queued up.
After waiting for about fifteen minutes, it was their turn.
After everything was settled, Jiang Shen held Ren Fenghe and sat on a chair in the corner of the infusion area, watching the nurse beside him prepare Ren Fenghe for an infusion.
After being carried by Jiang Shen and running all the way, with his hands stretched by the medicine box due to the need for an IV, Ren Fenghe finally woke up.
She felt uncomfortable all over. She didn't know if it was because she ate too much at the beach and caught a cold, but her stomach also started to feel uncomfortable.
After opening her eyes, she found herself in the hospital and Jiang Shen was holding her tightly.
"We are in the hospital now. Yuanyuan has a fever. Don't be afraid. The nurse will give you a gentle injection. It won't hurt." Jiang Shen saw Ren Fenghe with her eyes open and spoke to her softly.
The thing I was worried about finally happened.
Physical discomfort makes people more vulnerable and sensitive. Ren Fenghe wanted to cry. She waited quietly for the nurse to give her the injection and leave before she said, "Hat, you don't have a hat or a scarf."
"It's okay, it doesn't matter if you don't wear it." Jiang Shen comforted.
Ren Fenghe's body felt hot and cold. She found that Jiang Shen's arms had been serving as her backrest, and Jiang Shen was wearing very little in the chilly night. She couldn't help but let her tears roll down.
"I'm sorry." Ren Fenghe controlled his sobs and apologized to Jiang Shen.
Jiang Shen used his free hand to wipe away her tears, wanting to make Ren Fenghe feel more relaxed. He said, "Crybaby, how many times have you cried?"
"You won't be beautiful if you cry too much." Jiang Shen said again.
Ren Fenghe sniffed to hold back tears, and then said, "I'm sorry for causing you so much trouble."
If the fact that Jiang Shen had a child was exposed because he brought her to the hospital, she really didn't know what to do.
If only she had put on more clothes when she felt cold yesterday afternoon instead of playing around.
Jiang Shen pressed his fingers on Ren Fenghe's cheeks, pressing her cheek flesh up and then releasing it, causing her mouth to pout and then flatten.
He treated her like a stress-relieving toy that he could pinch, and said with a smile, "It's okay, I'll pinch your face twice as your apology gift."
"You usually don't let me pinch your face, so I'm going to take this opportunity to do it to my heart's content."
Ren Fenghe struggled to sit up, not pressing on his arm, and turned her face towards him, allowing him to pinch her, but Jiang Shen pinched her twice and then let go.
"Okay, why are you sitting up? Sitting is not as comfortable as lying down. Lie back down and continue sleeping. We will be home when you wake up." Jiang Shen said.
Ren Fenghe shook his head and said, "I'll sit on the chair next to you."
Her attitude was very clear, and Jiang Shen knew why she was like this.
But he never thought that she was still sick but still remembered his shoulder.
"You are like a warm baby in my arms. What should I do if I feel cold when you move beside me?"
If it were any other time, Ren Fenghe would definitely be able to tell that this was an excuse Jiang Shen made up to make her lie down comfortably, but at this moment, Ren Fenghe thought that he was indeed not wearing a coat and that she was indeed feeling hot all over because of her fever, and she actually believed this statement.
She said, "I don't want to hold your hand down."
"It's okay, it doesn't hurt. Go to sleep. At worst you can rub me when you get better." Jiang Shen said.
Ren Fenghe sniffed again to hold back tears, she said: "I'll rub you a hundred times."
"Okay, one hundred times, one thousand times, ten thousand times. Close your eyes quickly. Look, the children around you who are getting injections are all sleeping." Jiang Shen said.
But Ren Fenghe was still worried, and looked around to make sure no one was pointing a cell phone at them.
"Okay, stop looking." Jiang Shen put his hands on Ren Fenghe's eyes just like before.
Ren Fenghe had no choice but to close his eyes and pray that no one would notice them.
Her trembling eyelashes stroked Jiang Shen's palm, and every stroke told of her uneasiness.
Jiang Shen patted her gently and hummed the song he wrote for Ren Fenghe.
The lyrics were revised countless times, and I don’t know when they were finalized.
The slow and rhythmic tapping soothed Ren Fenghe's uneasiness, while the quietly singing voice covered up the sound of the dripping rain.
Ren Fenghe's breathing became even again.
“Can anyone help me?”
Ren Fenghe stood in a vast expanse of white.
The physical discomfort disappeared immediately.
There are two doors in front of me.
One door was tightly closed, and the other door was slightly open.
Ren Fenghe stood right between the two doors, looking at this familiar scene.
She took a tentative step forward, and as she did so, she discovered something strange.
She looked down and saw her prosthetic limb on her right leg.
She realized belatedly that she no longer had to look up to see the door handle.
She was back in her body.
This is a dream.
Seeing these two doors, Ren Fenghe realized.
She approached the door, which had a crack in it, and put her ear close to the crack.
"Who can help me?" The little girl's cry for help rang out again.
It was an extremely familiar voice. In the past two months, every time she spoke, she used the same voice as the little girl who was asking for help.
It’s Zhang Tuanyuan.
Ren Fenghe did not rush in. She took a few steps back and walked to the door next to her.
Behind this door is her room.
After you go in, will you go back?
Ren Fenghe took a deep breath, placed his hand on the door handle with great solemnity, and pushed down hard.
The sturdy door handle remained motionless.
Her door wouldn't open.
She stood in front of the door in confusion, not understanding why.
The last time I came here, her door was open and Zhang Tuanyuan's door was closed.
Why is it the other way around this time?
and……
“Can anyone help me?”
The same sound was heard from her room.
Ren Fenghe was a little scared. She touched her arm which was covered with goose bumps and walked back to the room with the door ajar.
If the door is opened a crack, she should be able to get in, right?
She swallowed and knocked tentatively on the door.
"Yuanyuan?" she called softly.
The gap in the door became wider, and a small figure leaned against the door with big, tearful eyes.
Seeing Ren Fenghe, Zhang Tuanyuan was obviously frightened and she took several steps back.
The door opened wider because of these steps.
Ren Fenghe discovered that Zhang Tuanyuan was translucent.
"Sister, sister." Zhang Tuanyuan called her.
