Chapter 17: The Burden
Meanwhile, on the other side.
After leaving Li Zhi, the three returned to Jiang Ruyun's ward.
Jiang Ruyun, supported by Gu Yanran, returned to the bedside and sat down. She looked up at Gu Yuntian who was standing in front of her and said with some concern, "Yuntian, do you think Zhizhi doesn't want to recognize us?"
"How could that be? It must be because we came too suddenly and she was not prepared at all. Just give her some time to digest it." Gu Yuntian comforted.
"Yes, Mom, Dad is right, don't think too much." Gu Yanran echoed, "After Ayu comes over after school, we will go find sister and have a good talk."
"Okay." Jiang Ruyun paused, then continued, "We forgot to ask Zhizhi who that little boy was. He looked quite cute, but it's strange that there was a child in Zhizhi's ward. The key is that there wasn't anyone else there."
Gu Yanran's eyes flickered slightly, and she guessed, "Could it be my sister's child?"
"Zhizhi's child?" Jiang Ruyun was stunned for a moment, then reacted and shook her head, thinking it was impossible. "Zhizhi is the same age as you, only twenty-five. How could she have a child that old? I think the child must be four or five years old."
"Maybe my sister got married early." Gu Yanran said again.
"Let's go and ask later. Maybe it's her friend's child, but her friend was not there when we went there just now." Gu Yuntian said.
He had not yet investigated Li Zhi's specific information, but simply asked someone to look for her whereabouts. After being notified that she had been found, he rushed here as soon as possible.
"I know." Jiang Ruyun responded.
Gu Yuntian raised his hand and glanced at the time on his watch. "I'm going back to the company first. I still have some things to deal with. I'll come over after get off work tonight."
His gaze fell on Gu Yanran again and he warned her, "Yanran, take good care of your mother here."
Gu Yanran nodded obediently and said with a smile: "Don't worry, Dad, I will take good care of Mom."
Gu Yuntian nodded, greeted the two of them, and then left the ward.
Jiang Ruyun looked at his leaving figure and suddenly thought of something. She reached out and picked up the mobile phone on the bedside table, called the maid at home, and asked her to cook a few more dishes and send them over today.
…
Soon it was time for dinner.
Gu Yanran looked at the table full of delicious food brought over by the servants at home and was the first to speak: "Mom, you eat here first. I'll go take the food to my sister."
Jiang Ruyun didn't refuse. That was what she meant. "Okay, Yanran, after you send it over, remember to ask your sister what she likes to eat so you can cook it for her tomorrow."
"Okay, I understand." Gu Yanran smiled, reached out to pick up the food and bone soup prepared for Li Zhi on the table, turned around and left the ward.
She stopped at the door of Li Zhi's ward, raised her hand and knocked twice, and said, "Sister, it's me, Yanran."
In a few seconds, the ward door was opened from the inside.
Gu Yanran saw that it was still the little boy who opened the door, her eyes moved slightly, and then she followed him into the ward.
She walked to the bed and stopped, and found that there was still no one else there, only Li Zhi and the little boy. She became more and more certain in her heart that this child must be related to Li Zhi.
Gu Yanran smiled and her eyes fell on Li Zhi who was lying on the bed. "Sister, I'm here to bring you food. Mom specially asked the servants to make a few more dishes and send them over. I don't know if they will suit your taste."
"And this bone soup can also help you recover."
Li Zhi didn't reject Jiang Ruyun's feelings and nodded slightly, "Okay, I understand, let it go."
Gu Yanran put the things she was carrying on the bedside table and said very considerately, "Sister, let me help you set up the dining table. The food should be eaten while it's hot, otherwise it will get cold later, especially this bone soup."
"It's okay, no need, I can do it myself." Li Zhi said.
Gu Yanran raised her finger and pointed at her hanging arm, "But you can only move one hand... It won't work if no one helps..."
Li Zhi raised her beautiful eyebrows slightly, "Okay then, I'll trouble you."
"It's not a big deal. You're already having trouble moving around, so it's my responsibility to take care of you." Gu Yanran said as she bent down to pick up the dining table board beside the bed, then laid it across the bed. "Alright."
"Thank you." Li Zhi said.
Gu Yanran turned around and picked up the food and bone soup on the bedside table and put them on the dining table.
She paused, her eyes falling on Li Yanjing, who was standing on the other side of the bed, and asked casually, "Sister, who is this little boy?"
"My son." Li Zhi said slowly.
Gu Yanran widened her eyes, pretending to be surprised and said in disbelief, "Son?!"
Li Zhi: "Yes, five years old."
Gu Yanran was secretly delighted. As expected, she guessed right. She didn't know which strange man the child was born with.
She was originally worried that after Li Zhi returned to the Gu family, her original engagement with the Xie family would be her turn, but now it seems impossible.
How could the Xie family possibly want a woman who has given birth to a child and has a burden?
Just based on this, Li Zhi has nothing to compete with her.
As long as she can successfully marry into the Xie family, the Jiang family won’t matter.
Gu Yanran collected her thoughts and asked, "Then why haven't I seen my brother-in-law?"
"Dead." Li Zhi said nonchalantly.
When Li Yanjing heard what she said, the corners of his mouth couldn't help but twitch. Last time it was divorce, and this time it was death.
I say one thing to different people and another thing to different people. I don’t know what I will say to others next time.
"This...Sister, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it...I didn't expect it to be like this..." Gu Yanran said apologetically.
"It's okay, it's human nature, it's over." Li Zhi smiled slightly, "If you don't have anything else, go back. My son and I are going to eat."
Gu Yanran nodded. "Okay, then I won't bother you anymore. Mom and I will come to see you later."
"Okay." Li Zhi responded casually.
Gu Yanran greeted her and then turned and left the ward.
As soon as she left, Li Zhi's cell phone rang.
Li Zhi picked up the phone beside the bed, unlocked the screen, opened WeChat, and saw that Zhou Xian had sent her a message.
[Master Li, the food we ordered has arrived. I just delivered it to you and am on my way to deliver yours. It should be here soon.]
Li Zhi: [Okay, I understand.]
She turned off her phone, and the next second, there was a knock on the door.
Li Zhi looked up at Li Yanjing who was beside the bed and said, "Son, go open the door. The lunch we ordered has arrived."
Li Yanjing nodded and walked towards the ward door.
After bringing it back, he took out all the packed meals from the bag and placed them on the dining table, then opened the lids of the boxes one by one.
Li Zhi looked at the table full of dishes, which were colorful, fragrant and delicious. She reached out to take the chopsticks handed to her by Li Yanjing and started eating first.
Seeing that her mouth was full of food, just like the little hamster he saw on TV, Li Yanjing curled the corners of his lips slightly, climbed onto the bed and sat down, picked up the chopsticks, and began to eat slowly.
