Chapter 238 I thought you loved me so much
Xia Ningxi was unaware that her words had already ignited Huo Nanxiao's anger.
His handsome face was filled with a chilling aura. Huo Nanxiao suppressed his anger and asked Xia Ningxi, "Are these words what you really think?"
"Yes," Xia Ningxi replied.
Huo Nanxiao said angrily, "Even if I really marry Xia Wanwan and have children, you won't care at all?"
Xia Ningxi bit her lip and remained silent.
Her silence enraged Huo Nanxiao. The man grabbed her chin and gritted his teeth: "Xia Ningxi, I thought you loved me so much. I didn't expect that after a few years abroad, you've become so generous that you can even give up your own husband."
“We have no feelings for each other, so it’s better to break it off cleanly than to get entangled,” Xia Ningxi said.
Huo Nanxiao was furious: "It seems your husband abroad treated you very well, so you settled for second best. Now you're in such a hurry to leave me because you want to turn around and run into his arms, right?"
Xia Ningxi said, "Think what you want."
Her cold attitude displeased Huo Nanxiao, and the man's large hand gripped Xia Ningxi's chin even harder.
Xia Ningxi winced in pain, feeling utterly awed. She let out a soft groan and said, "Let me go."
"Let me tell you, as long as we haven't gotten a divorce certificate, you'll always be my wife. I haven't even bothered you about bigamy yet. You'd better stay by my side and take good care of Huo Yuan, and don't try anything with him again."
Huo Nanxiao's voice was cold.
He was very angry and slammed the door as he left.
Xia Ningxi watched Huo Nanxiao's departing figure, her feelings a complex mix.
Back in Huo Yuan's room, Xia Ningxi slept on the sofa until dawn.
When I woke up in the morning, I found that there was a blanket on me that I didn't know when. It had a faint fragrance that seemed familiar. It belonged to Huo Nanxiao.
She hurriedly looked around, but Huo Nanxiao had already disappeared.
The bed was empty, and Huo Yuan wasn't in the room either.
Xia Ningxi put on her shoes with a puzzled look and went downstairs.
Huo Nanxiao was sitting in the first-floor reception room, looking at a contract in his hand. There was no one around.
"Where's A-Yuan?" Xia Ningxi asked, puzzled.
Huo Nanxiao said, "Watering the flowers in the garden."
Xia Ningxi wanted to spend time with the children in the garden.
Huo Nanxiao stopped her: "Do you still stand by what you said last night?"
Xia Ningxi stopped in her tracks, looking completely bewildered.
Huo Nanxiao said, "You said you would contact a doctor to come to the capital to treat Xia Wanwan."
Xia Ningxi replied, "I can make contact, but I'm not sure if he'll be willing to come, because he's a national-level medical expert abroad, and not someone that just anyone can hire; it would cost a lot of money."
Huo Nanxiao said, "I'm willing to pay any amount of money."
Xia Ningxi understood Huo Nanxiao's meaning and said, "Give me some time."
"Okay." Huo Nanxiao nodded.
Xia Ningxi went to the garden.
Huo Yuan was watering the flowers in the garden at the moment, with several maids following nervously behind him, afraid that the little guy might accidentally bump into something.
Seeing Xia Ningxi walking towards him, Huo Yuan was overjoyed and excitedly ran towards her.
"Good morning, Dr. Xia." Huo Yuan was overjoyed.
Xia Ningxi smiled and said, "Ah Yuan is so diligent, he even knows how to water the flowers, that's great."
Huo Yuan's cheeks flushed slightly, and he said shyly, "Yes, I am very diligent."
"Have you had breakfast yet?" Xia Ningxi affectionately pinched the little guy's nose.
Huo Yuan shook his head: "Not yet."
Just then, the housekeeper came over to remind them that breakfast was ready. Xia Ningxi then carried Huo Yuan home, washed her hands, and the three of them sat down in the dining room for a meal.
Huo Yuan was still angry with Huo Nanxiao, so he ignored Huo Nanxiao from beginning to end and very attentively served food to Xia Ningxi with a sweet smile on his face.
"This is delicious."
"This is delicious too."
"And this, you should try it."
Huo Yuan was incredibly attentive. Despite being so small, he was exceptionally good at taking care of people. He was even worried that Xia Ningxi would go hungry, and he filled her bowl in no time.
Huo Nanxiao watched coldly, feeling somewhat resentful. After all, this was his precious son. It was one thing for him to ignore him, but for him to be so attentive to Xia Ningxi made Huo Nanxiao very jealous.
He coughed, his face ashen.
Huo Yuan turned his head and glanced at Huo Nanxiao, but only for a moment, before continuing to eat, completely ignoring Huo Nanxiao.
Huo Nanxiao's face darkened, and he became even angrier.
Huo Nanxiao felt very uncomfortable during breakfast; he even felt somewhat superfluous.
After breakfast, Huo Nanxiao took Huo Yuan and Xia Ningxi to Ninghai Hospital to meet Xia Wanwan's attending physician.
Xia Ningxi spoke with the doctor for a while, learned about Xia Wanwan's specific situation, and expressed her desire to find another doctor to continue treating Xia Wanwan.
The attending physician said, "I know you all hope that Miss Xia will wake up soon, but her condition is very difficult. I have been treating her for so many years, and she has shown no signs of waking up. In fact, it would be the same if we changed doctors. There is nothing we can do for a person in a vegetative state."
"What if her attending physician is Tang En?" Xia Ningxi asked in return.
The attending physician looked shocked: "You mean Don Wickliffe?"
“Yes, it’s him.” Xia Ningxi nodded.
The attending physician said, "That's impossible. He's a national treasure, protected by the state. In recent years, he has only focused on medical research and treated people at the level of heads of state. It's impossible for him to treat outsiders or accept other patients."
Those in their line of work have all heard of Don Wickliffe. This man is simply a legend in the medical field. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to describe him as a living Hua Tuo (a legendary Chinese physician), and he might even surpass that.
At the age of 25, Tang En was recruited by the state and secretly sent to a top research laboratory. He won the Nobel Prize in Medicine at the age of 30. He was a genius who not only gained fame and fortune, but also had very strong abilities. Otherwise, he would not have become a key protected object in the medical field.
It is said that wherever Tang En goes, the country provides him with bodyguards. How could someone like that possibly come to the capital to treat Xia Wanwan?
The attending physician thought Xia Ningxi was exaggerating and couldn't help but ask, "Do you know that Tang En is a national-level expert? Even if you have money, you might not be able to invite him. How could someone like that come to our capital city? Even if Young Master Huo is rich, he couldn't possibly invite him here, could he? Do you know him?"
Xia Ningxi said, "It's alright. We used to work in the same research lab, so we're colleagues."
When Xia Wanwan's attending physician heard this, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets in shock.
Xia Ningxi is actually Tang En's colleague?
Are you kidding me?
Don is a Nobel Prize laureate in Medicine; there are only a handful of people like him in the world. And Xia Ningxi is actually working with someone of that caliber...
How is this possible?
