Chapter 16 You and I Look Alike

Xia Ningxi gripped the test report tightly as she listened to Dr. Yang explain Huo Yuan's condition; every word felt like a knife cutting into her heart.

She wanted to surprise her mother, but the handsome uncle stayed by her mother's side the whole time, so Xia Xingxing didn't dare to make a sound and eventually fell asleep in the closet.

Starving and dizzy, Xia Xingxing came out of the closet, opened the food box next to her, and began to wolf down the food without any hesitation.
Huo Yuan was terrified. He asked in a trembling voice, "Who are you? Why are you here?"
"I'm Dr. Xia's son, my name is Xia Xingxing." Xia Xingxing proudly introduced himself, not forgetting to complain about the food box on the table: "Who made this for you? It's a bit awful."
"It was made by my aunt. She said I had to eat the breakfast she made. Why did you eat it?" Huo Yuan asked in a low voice.
Xia Xingxing said, "My mommy bought you breakfast. Is it too much for me to eat your breakfast? We're exchanging things, understand?"
"Oh, I understand, but Auntie will be angry, and if she's angry, she'll scold me." Huo Yuan lowered his head.
Xia Xingxing said, "Are you stupid? Can't you just say you ate it yourself?"
"Alright." Huo Yuan lowered his head and remained silent.
Xia Xingxing saw tears in his eyes and asked, "Mommy told me that you were being bullied, and that Mommy is going to stay and protect you."
“My mommy is very tired. She has to work during the day, have surgery, and take care of me and my sister. She works very hard. Don’t be afraid. I will protect you from now on.”
Xia Xingxing patted his chest and assured Huo Yuan that protecting the vulnerable was his responsibility. In the kindergarten, he was the leader; no one dared to bully the children he protected under his watchful eye.
As for Huo Yuan... since he's someone Mommy wants to protect, Xia Xingxing naturally wants to share the burden with Mommy as well.
"Why are you crying?" Xia Xingxing asked him.
Huo Yuan answered honestly, "A rat will bite me."
"No, there are no rats here. I checked." Xia Xingxing looked around; it was very clean.
Huo Yuan said, "My aunt said that mice will bite me when she's not around."
“She’s a liar, she’s lying to you.” Xia Xingxing exposed Xia Luoluo’s lie without hesitation.
Huo Yuan bit his lip and remained silent, his head bowed low: "But I have mice in my house."
“I don’t have any at home. If you’re scared, you can come to my house. I’ll protect you,” Xia Xingxing warmly invited.
Huo Yuan asked innocently, "Really?"
"Yes, really, why would I lie to you? There isn't a single mouse in my house. If you don't believe me, come home with me, and I'll prove it to you!" Xia Xingxing looked like she couldn't wait to take Huo Yuan home.
Huo Yuan longed for it, but dared not agree. He knew that if Xia Luoluo found out about it, she would be angry.
"Let's forget it. Auntie doesn't want me to play with other children. Thank you for comforting me, but you can't stay here for too long. She'll be angry if she comes back and sees you. She's terrifying when she's angry, and I don't want you to get hurt." Huo Yuan was very worried.

Huo Yuan forced a smile and said to Xia Xingxing, "Thank you. I'm so envious of you. Dr. Xia is such a kind person. Her embrace is so warm. I like her so much."
"That's right, my mommy is beautiful and kind, everyone loves her, it's normal for you to like her. Anyone would fall in love with a beauty like my mommy. But I'm curious, why do you look so much like me?" Xia Xingxing blinked her big eyes.
