Chapter 636 Stay, stay by my side
Xia Ningxi remained very quiet on the way back, while Huo Nanxiao kept replaying her words in his mind.
Xia Ningxi's guess was correct. If Li Yancheng hadn't known Xia Ningxi for a long time, how could he have cared about her so much?
However, all of this requires evidence.
Li Yancheng is now willing to confess honestly, but Huo Nanxiao may not believe him.
When they got home, all three children were asleep on the sofa. They couldn't be touched. If anyone went to hold them, they would be woken up. If one cried, the whole group would cry too. So Aunt Zhang didn't dare to touch the three children.
"Young Master Huo, Young Madam, you're finally back." Seeing Xia Ningxi, Aunt Zhang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Are they unwilling to go back to their rooms to rest?" Xia Ningxi asked.
Aunt Zhang replied, "Yes, the young masters and Miss Chu Chu insisted on waiting for the young mistress to come back and refused to go back to their room to sleep. I wanted to take the children back to their room, but they are light sleepers and they will wake up if I touch them. I didn't dare to move them or disturb them."
"Thank you for your hard work. I'll take care of them. You go and rest." Xia Ningxi was very grateful.
Aunt Zhang said, "I escorted them back to their room on behalf of the young mistress."
"No need, I can do it myself." Xia Ningxi dismissed Zhang Sao, glanced at the three children, and Xingxing was the bravest. She picked Xingxing up first, and the little guy opened his eyes, but he was obviously not awake. He hummed "Mommy" a couple of times and then fell asleep again.
Huo Nanxiao couldn't just stand by and do nothing, so he went over and picked up the little baby. To his surprise, the sleeping little guy punched him twice in the face, which stunned Huo Nanxiao. But the little guy didn't realize what he had done wrong at all. He gave a haughty hum and continued to sleep.
Huo Nanxiao was so angry that his teeth itched. He stared at the little thing in front of him with a dark face. The little girl was sleeping so soundly. After all, she was his own child. How could Huo Nanxiao lose his temper with a little girl?
He gritted his teeth and endured it, then carried the little girl upstairs.
After settling Xingxing in, Xia Ningxi went outside and saw Huo Nanxiao. She said, "I'll come."
"Go and hug A-Yuan. He'll be scared if he's downstairs all alone with no one around," Huo Nanxiao reminded him.
“Okay.” Xia Ningxi was also worried that Huo Yuan would wake up if he slept alone, so she didn’t dare let him stay downstairs for too long. She quickly went downstairs and picked up Huo Yuan who had fallen.
Huo Yuan seemed to be frightened and burst into tears. His body trembled with fear, and his limbs convulsed uncontrollably.
"Don't be afraid, A-Yuan, it's Mommy. Don't be scared, A-Yuan." Xia Ningxi hurriedly hugged the little guy and kept comforting him, while rubbing Huo Yuan's cramped hands and feet.
The little guy cried for a while before calming down, then suddenly threw himself into Xia Ningxi's arms: "Mommy, a mouse bit me, boohoo, a mouse bit me."
"There are no mice, A-Yuan was just dreaming. Don't be afraid, A-Yuan, Mommy is protecting you. Go to sleep, okay?" Xia Ningxi gently comforted Huo Yuan, patting his back softly.
Sleepiness enveloped Huo Yuan. Perhaps it was because being held by Xia Ningxi made Huo Yuan feel warm and secure. With her soft, comforting voice, Huo Yuan closed his eyes and continued to sleep, but his hands were still tightly gripping Xia Ningxi's clothes.
“A-Yuan lacks a sense of security and needs someone to be with him.” Huo Nanxiao could see that the little guy was afraid even when he was asleep, and he felt very sad. He looked intently into Xia Ningxi’s eyes: “If you continue to be a doctor, you will be very busy. Who will A-Yuan turn to if he is frightened when you are not around?”
“I will try my best to spend time with him,” Xia Ningxi replied.
She was about to go upstairs with Huo Yuan in her arms, but Huo Nanxiao stopped her. He held Xia Ningxi's hand and said, "Stay here. Let's take good care of the child."
Xia Ningxi was startled and looked up in disbelief, meeting Huo Nanxiao's deep, dark eyes. She thought he was joking, "Xia Wanwan and I are destined not to coexist. What do you mean by asking me to stay?"
“If they stay with me, I will take good care of the three children. They won’t have to lose their father at such a young age. Growing up with me will make them much happier than if they went abroad with you. At least they won’t be gossiped about behind their backs and laughed at for being wild children without a father,” Huo Nanxiao replied, word by word.
Xia Ningxi's hand tightened, and she said, "What about Xia Wanwan?"
"As long as the Huo family doesn't fall, she will have enough money to live a comfortable life in her later years," Huo Nanxiao replied.
But this is an ambiguous answer.
Even without Huo Nanxiao, as long as Xia Wenhe does business steadily, Xia Wanwan will never lack money and can live a stable life in her later years. But if the Huo family has to be added as a prerequisite, then she doesn't know what Huo Nanxiao really means.
No matter what the final outcome is, the result remains unchanged.
Xia Ningxi said, "Don't worry, I have a group of good friends abroad. Tang En and the others will take care of the children for me. You don't need to worry about the children being bullied when they go abroad."
"What about A Yuan?" Huo Nanxiao asked.
Xia Ningxi said, "I'm a doctor, it would only be better for A Yuan to stay by my side."
"Xia Ningxi, don't you understand what I mean?" Huo Nanxiao was a little angry. He had already made his point so clear, didn't Xia Ningxi understand?
However, Xia Ningxi didn't want to think about Huo Nanxiao's thoughts at all; she just wanted to quickly take the child upstairs to rest.
Huo Yuan was a light sleeper. Xia Ningxi stayed with him for ten minutes, gently patting his back and soothing the little guy. At first, the little guy clung to Xia Ningxi, but perhaps sensing his younger siblings nearby, he turned over, hugged Xingxing, and fell fast asleep without needing Xia Ningxi's company.
Normally, Huo Yuan wouldn't dare to sleep alone, but with his younger siblings by his side, he became much braver.
Huo Nanxiao had said so much nonsense, but in the end he just wanted the child to stay with him. However, Xia Ningxi knew that as long as Xia Wanwan stood between them, neither she nor the child could have peace.
Rather than getting entangled with Huo Nanxiao and Xia Wanwan, it's better to leave on your own.
After settling the children in, Xia Ningxi came out of their bedroom.
Huo Nanxiao glanced at the three children sleeping soundly in each other's arms inside, and whispered to Xia Ningxi in the darkness, "I'll stay with the children tonight."
"Okay, then I'll go back to my room to rest first." Xia Ningxi didn't try to take the job from Huo Nanxiao and let him accompany her.
She returned to her room, took a quick hot shower, and lay wearily on the soft bed, wrapping herself tightly in the blankets, and slept soundly until dawn.
When she woke up, she found many missed text messages on her phone. She was puzzled, but when she opened them, she found that they were from Li Yancheng. This guy actually had the nerve to ask her to meet up.
She made a phone call.
Li Yancheng answered the call quickly and asked, "Have you thought it through? Are you planning to see me?"
Xia Ningxi said, "You've been stabbed and you're still not behaving yourself. What do you want?"
“Of course I want to talk to you about that matter,” Li Yancheng replied.
Xia Ningxi said, "Since you've already made an agreement with Huo Nanxiao, just hand the things over to him. I'm not interested."
"Aren't you worried that there might be something wrong with what I gave him?" Li Yancheng asked back.
Xia Ningxi said, "Anyway, you can't be that kind. If there's a problem, Huo Nanxiao will find out. I don't need to worry about it."
“These are all things that are detrimental to you. If you come and beg me, I may not hand them over to Huo Nanxiao.” Li Yancheng revealed his purpose: he wanted to see Xia Ningxi.
