Chapter 9: Oxcart Ride

The sound of the train lingered in his ears. Zhou Yian frowned, but finally opened his eyes. Alas, you really can't expect too much from a train from the 1960s.

But we can't have no requirements at all. The smell of chicken shit, foot odor, and sweat mixed together is really unbearable.

Zhou Yian looked up at the other educated youth. Seeing they were still asleep, he didn't want to wake them. He secretly took out his military canteen and quickly drank two sips to calm his stomach.

When she looked up, she found that Song Songbai, who had just fallen asleep, had opened his eyes and was staring at her without a trace of confusion.

"Cough cough," Zhou Yian was almost choked, ending her short journey of traveling through time.

But when he looked again after his cough subsided, Song Songbai had already turned his head with a smile on his lips.

I'm so angry! Zhou Yian held his breath, but he hadn't done anything wrong, so he couldn't vent his anger. He could only drink another sip of water in anger.

He is not a good person at all, staring at others in the middle of the night.

Zhou Yian also turned his head.

Song Songbai chuckled as he looked at her.

Zhou Yian's ears felt hot from his laughter, and he was so angry that he turned around and stared at him.

Why does he laugh so beautifully? He's quite good-looking, otherwise he'd have been beaten long ago. She glanced over his deep eyes, straight nose, and thin lips. Then, down below, the faint glimpse of his collarbone and white shirt.

Humph, why is a boy wrapped up so tightly? Who would even look at him! He looks skinny, so he must not have the physical strength! Zhou Yian secretly complained in his heart.

On the surface, Song Songbai appeared to be as still as a mountain, dozing with his eyes closed.

As they say, the more you look at a beautiful woman under the light, the more beautiful she becomes (*ˊ??ˋ?*)

Zhou Yian was so attracted by the beauty that he fell into a deep sleep again.

"Comrade Zhou, wake up," Liu Ke pushed her.

Zhou Yian woke up confused, looking at her with big watery eyes, "What's wrong?"

"We're almost there. Comrade Zhou, please pack up quickly and get ready to get off the bus." Liu Ke softened his voice and said.

"Almost there? Great, thank you Comrade Liu Ke." Zhou Yian came to his senses and immediately jumped up. "Finally getting off the bus."

My bones are so weak from sitting on the train these past two days. I can’t eat or sleep well.

Zhou Yian didn't bring anything with her, mainly because it was difficult for a girl to carry things, so she only brought some necessary things. But with just an eight-pound quilt, it was still difficult for her.

Looking at Song Songbai who was easily picking up a few packages on the side.

hey-hey(*?????*)? ??

"Song Zhiqing~"

Song Songbai gritted his teeth and moved the luggage off the platform, breathing slightly.

What the hell, it's quite heavy.

After getting off the train, I had to change buses to the county below. The bus was also dusty and packed with people. There were all kinds of sounds, such as the cries of chickens, ducks, and geese, mixed with the crying of children. I looked at the other educated youth and could only smile bitterly.

It was difficult enough to take a car, and Zhou Yian really couldn't imagine how hard it was to go to the countryside. Alas, the fairy sighed.

Fortunately, after I got off the platform, someone came to pick me up. "All the educated youth going to Gejiazhuang, please gather here. All the educated youth going to Gejiazhuang, please gather here." It was an elderly man driving an ox cart.

Someone from Gejiazhuang came to pick us up.

"Song Zhiqing, someone from Gejiazhuang is here to pick us up." Zhou Yian excitedly patted his package on Song Songbai's body.

Holding the remaining packages, Zhou Yian rushed forward.

Song Songbai followed behind with some difficulty.

It’s not that I don’t want to hurry, it’s just that my luggage is full.

"Uncle, we are both from Gejiazhuang." Zhou Yian smiled gratefully, "It's really hard for you to come and pick us up."

"You educated youth are intellectuals and you support us, so it's only natural that you should take over." The old man also laughed.

The two people's packages filled the ox cart to the brim.

The two men sat sideways on the side of the ox cart, looking at each other.

This is the first time for a young lady to get into a sedan chair.

The two men watched in silence as the old man started to drive the cattle.

The cow's eyes were as big as copper bells, its two curved horns were green and translucent, and its yellow hair was especially shiny, as silk.

"Uncle, you have raised this cow really well, it's very smooth and shiny."

"Haha, cows are good friends of farmers. No one can be hungry, but cows cannot be hungry."

Although that is true, the cattle are raised so well, it seems that Gejiazhuang is quite wealthy.
