The sky was still dimly lit, with the faint light and gray hues blending together outside the corridor window. Morning had just begun, and Gu Li had just arrived at the door.
Gu Li held up the things she was carrying. "I know, I've already bought everything and come back. You'll only realize how much time you have when you get up early."
Jiang Xu stepped aside to let him in. "Then why did you only wake up at noon last time?"
Gu Li: "Sometimes, a life that requires adaptability is more exciting."
Jiang Xu: "You really don't leave anything out."
Gu Li said, "Who made me," he cleared his throat, raising his voice, "intelligent, brave, and strong, I really envy myself." The young man's clear voice roused Jiang Xu from his drowsy state.
Jiang Xu looked at the person and said, "I can feel your excellent wake-up service."
Gu Li sat down at the dining table. "No need to thank me too much," he said, pointing to the things he had brought. "These are definitely from a long-established brand. You have to get up early to queue up to buy them. Hurry up and wash up so you can try them."
Jiang Xu nodded, "Okay, wait for me." After he finished speaking, he turned around and walked towards the bathroom.
Gu Li's voice rang out again, "Jiang Xu, a small tuft of your hair is sticking up, it looks like you suddenly have a cowlick, it's quite," he carefully chose his words, "funny."
Jiang Xu turned to look at Gu Li, "Does this sound like a compliment?"
Gu Li looked intently at Jiang Xu, who had turned around, and a smile appeared on his lips. "I misspoke, it's more like he's quite cute."
Jiang Xu turned back, "Being cute isn't good either."
Gu Li reached out and tapped the table. "What's wrong with it?" He thought it was pretty good, with a cute contrast.
Jiang Xu: "Then how about I say you're cute?"
He had just finished speaking when Gu Li heard the door close. He thought about Jiang Xu's words, changed the scene, and then realized that something seemed wrong.
Gu Li propped her head up and looked out the floor-to-ceiling window, deciding to ignore the word; it was indeed a bit strange.
It was indeed very early, and the clouds were slowly drifting by. He remembered the slightly cool breeze outside, looked at the breakfast on the table, and tested the temperature with the back of his hand.
He didn't want to get cold, so maybe next time he could ask Jiang Xu to go directly; he probably wouldn't refuse.
A slight warmth came through, and he thought, thankfully, it's still warm.
After Jiang Xu came out, he went straight to Gu Li's side and sat down. "Did you go to buy it this morning, or did you go without sleeping?"
Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu, who had just finished washing up, a tiny drop of water clinging to the side of his face. He wanted to wipe it away for him. "You're awake. There aren't many young people as energetic as me anymore. Cherish this moment." After saying that, he took out a tissue and handed it to Jiang Xu. "Your face is wet." He didn't say where the droplet was.
Jiang Xu took the paper and replied to Gu Li, "There aren't many young people with such a regular schedule as me anymore. You should learn from me." He wiped his face with the tissue.
Gu Li said, "I'm unconventional," watching Jiang Xu's actions, "You wiped the wrong edge." He lifted a corner of the paper and dotted it on the drop of water. "Okay, that's it." He had achieved his goal.
Jiang Xu put down the paper. "Then why did you wake up so early?"
Gu Li: "There are always 365 days a year when you want to have a proper breakfast, and today is the day you succeeded in having one of those 365 days."
Jiang Xu: "It seems I've also benefited from some of that good luck."
Gu Li: "Yes, if you have good luck from the morning, then you will have good luck all day."
Jiang Xu, "Are you going for a philosophical persona today?"
Gu Li waved her hand, "Just a little sentimentality this morning, to wake myself up."
Jiang Xu, "Your way of waking up is quite unique."
Gu Li: "Okay, try it quickly, otherwise it will get cold and I'll have gotten up early for nothing."
Jiang Xu looked at the food on the table. White steam was rising from the bag, which looked warm and comforting.
He could imagine the smoky aroma rising from steaming baskets in those streets and alleys, and he turned his head to look at Gu Li.
Just like the person next to you, full of real and vibrant everyday life.
Jiang Xu reached out and untied the plastic bag. The small soup dumplings lay quietly in the box. He picked up the first one and handed it to Gu Li. "Here, the best one is for you. This is all for good luck all day long."
Gu Li blew on it slightly, then took a bite. "I won't be polite with you." His teeth lightly tapped the chopsticks. "Um, I think I only brought one pair of chopsticks. I'll get you another pair."
Jiang Xu picked one up with his chopsticks, bit into it, and the broth burst in his mouth, fresh and rich. "I'll go get you a pair, wait for me a moment." He got up and left his seat.
Gu Li glanced at the pair of disposable chopsticks on the plastic bag, his gaze lingering on the spot where they had been picked up. He then turned his head to look out the French windows again, his ears belatedly turning red.
Tsk, that's a foul.
When Jiang Xu returned, he saw Gu Li staring blankly outside. "Still not awake?"
Gu Li turned around and said, "How could that be? You look very energetic."
Jiang Xu smiled and joked, "As energetic as a young man?"
Gu Li returned a smile, "Even more energetic than a spirited young man."
Jiang Xu handed the chopsticks to Gu Li, saying, "Indeed, not many young men can afford to eat breakfast. You're better than them."
Gu Li: "No problem, no problem, but I'm quite surprised that you actually came to open the door."
Jiang Xu, "You know that 5:30 is a time that disturbs people's sleep."
Gu Li said, "I was just passing by your door and wanted to see if you're a good student who goes to bed early and gets up early." He really just pressed the doorbell subconsciously.
Jiang Xu: "It seems that, regardless of whether I'm a good or bad student, I do go to bed early and get up early."
Gu Li nodded, "Yes, you're not bad."
Jiang Xu picked up another one and put it in his mouth. "It's delicious."
Gu Li asked with a satisfied smile, "Isn't it worth getting up early?"
Jiang Xu said, "Yes, it's worth it." He looked at the smile on Gu Li's lips. "Then next time you happen to be able to get up on any of the 365 days, ring my doorbell when you go there, okay?"
Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu and thought, "This is quite a coincidence. He seems to know what I'm thinking. It's a bit magical, but it's also very good."
Gu Li's smile deepened. "Okay, if I come at 4 o'clock next time, you won't deny it, will you?"
"Let me think about it," Jiang Xu's lips twitched slightly. "If I come to open the door, then please assume I remember what you said and just call me to leave."
Gu Li tilted his head. "What if you don't come to open the door? What if you don't come with me? What if I don't come for a very long time, or I forget to come?" He said it casually, his gaze falling on the table, but Gu Li knew that out of the corner of his eye, he was waiting for Jiang Xu to answer.
