Before Wang Bing could react, a sharp pain shot through the back of his head. The pages of a book rustled as it crashed to the ground. "Ouch!" he cried, clutching the back of his head. "Who hit me? Do they want to die...?" He turned around, his voice suddenly dropping to a whisper. "Ah."
Wang Bing understood what Jiang Xu meant earlier; this man had seen Gu Li arrive.
Gu Li looked at him calmly, "My hand slipped. What did you just say?"
"I..." He was speechless. He dared to say that Gu Li wanted to die, but it was probably Gu Li who wanted to die. During the short pause, Wang Bing thought quickly, "I said, even if your hand slips, your accuracy is still so good. Let's play ball together sometime."
Gu Li: "I don't play ball with ugly people."
Without looking at Wang Bing's expression, Gu Li added, "Why would someone so short play basketball? Everyone's afraid they won't be able to see you."
Gu Li's statement was an exaggeration; she didn't give anyone any face at all.
Even if Wang Bing still wanted to get close to Gu Li, he was a bit angry at the moment.
Jiang Xu laughed out loud at that moment. His clear and melodious voice was like a mountain stream flowing gently.
Wang Bing turned his head and glared fiercely at Jiang Xu, as if it were all the other person's fault.
Jiang Xu raised his hand and waved. The young man's arm lines were smooth, drawing people's attention to his movements. "It's nothing. I just thought of something fun. You guys continue."
Gu Li felt a strange itch on the tiny wound on his eyebrow, urging himself to reach out and scratch it, but he simply raised his hand and pointed at the book on the ground, "I picked it up for you."
Wang Bing didn't want to follow Gu Li's lead at that moment. He picked up the textbook he had just put down and was about to take Liu Xian to another spot.
Gu Li simply said, "Your surname is Wang, right?"
His single sentence sent a chill down Wang Bing's spine. He wasn't the powerful and influential Wang family he was; he was just someone who happened to be related to him by chance.
Gu Li could easily ruin his family; the other party only needed to give a single order, and his peaceful life might be over.
Wang Bing froze for a moment, then immediately bent down to pick up the book from the ground, patting off any dust it might have gotten on. "Um," he tried to keep his voice steady, "where should I put it?"
"Put him next to him." Gu Li pointed to Jiang Xu and walked over step by step.
The students in the classroom watched with great interest, keeping their conversation as quiet as possible.
"Gu Li is handsome, but his temper is just like the rumors say; he doesn't seem easy to get along with."
"They're friends, so they're allowed to bully people, but no one is allowed to fight back?"
"But something feels off. Do you guys remember Jiang Xu from before?"
"I don't remember much, but things have changed a lot. Let's just look at the handsome guys, why think so much?"
Gu Li sat down next to Jiang Xu and lazily said to Wang Bing, who was leaving, "Sit further away, don't get in my way."
Wang Bing's footsteps quickened after hearing these words, the feeling of being tormented growing heavier.
Gu Li pointed at the book. "How was my slip-up?"
Jiang Xu said with a smile, "Right on target."
Gu Li, "How does it compare to your hollow ball?"
Jiang Xu: "A draw, a draw."
"I don't accept a draw," Gu Li said firmly.
Jiang Xu tentatively asked, "Then I'll accept?"
Gu Li said, "You're really awesome." He then took the pen from Jiang Xu, which twirled nimbly between his fingers, the black pen contrasting sharply with his white fingers. "Is it so hard to ask you to play ball?"
"It's my honor, and thank you for praising me for being tall and handsome." Jiang Xu blinked, speaking without the slightest blush.
Gu Li: "You're too kind. You didn't need me to praise you; you've already praised yourself enough."
Jiang Xu changed the subject, "Is the location alright?"
Gu Li: "Whether it works or not is another matter, but I'm quite familiar with the location."
"Shall we sit here again tomorrow?" Jiang Xu said jokingly.
"After that, I can't come tomorrow because something's up." Gu Li thought for a moment and then said, "Do you have any attachment to this position?"
Jiang Xu: "No, you can see me when you come in, and I can see you too."
He had barely finished speaking, and before Gu Li could say anything, the girl in the front row suddenly yelled, "Aww!"
With a few minutes left before class, the surrounding conversations were neither too loud nor too soft. This shout drew everyone's attention, and Jiang Xu and Gu Li stopped talking.
The girl smiled shyly at the people looking over, and even turned around and nodded to Jiang Xu and the others.
Jiang Xu nodded as he saw the girl blushing and nodding, indicating that she didn't need to worry about it.
Once everyone had turned around, Gu Li asked, "What does she mean?"
Jiang Xu shook his head. "I don't know."
Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu with a strange expression, "Then why are you two nodding?"
Jiang Xu said, "She ordered it, so I ordered it too. Anyway, I didn't lose anything."
Gu Li didn't speak. She clenched her fist with the hand that wasn't holding the pen and placed it on the table, extending each finger one by one, starting from the little finger.
After fully extending its length, it waved in front of Jiang Xu, then suddenly bent four fingers, leaving only its thumb standing upright.
Jiang Xu laughed immediately, "I thought you were up to something amazing? What does this mean?"
Gu Li clenched her fist again and withdrew her hand. "I agree with you, I approve of you, keep up the good work." The pen she was spinning fell onto the table, the sound of it hitting the ground coinciding with the school bell.
Jiang Xu vaguely heard Gu Li's indistinct voice say, "He's really good at fooling people."
Jiang Xu thought he must have heard correctly; the sound was like a feather falling softly, and his eardrums vibrated as he clearly heard it.
Although the other person was focused on turning the pages of the book, he instinctively felt that he hadn't misheard.
He smiled and said to Gu Li as the ringing ended, "I didn't fool you." His voice was as soft as a feather brushing against her ear, and Gu Li felt a tickle.
The two feathers briefly intertwined, and the next moment, the teacher's booming voice poured in knowledge, engulfing the feathers.
The introduction at the beginning of the lesson was much longer than the actual content. The teacher launched into a long lecture, and then the bell rang.
The sound woke Gu Li, who was lying on the table. He looked up and stretched his aching arms. Before he could catch his breath, he heard a low laugh.
Gu Li turned her head to look over, "?"
Jiang Xu, “Your delicate hair,” he thought for a moment, then said, “is blown out of shape.” His final words were straightforward and apt.
Gu Li reached out and brushed her bangs aside. "I'm changing my persona today."
Jiang Xu, "Going for a wild look?"
Gu Li stretched out her index finger and shook it, "This is my cool and unrestrained style."
Jiang Xu also shook his finger, "No, it's more like the messy and haphazard style of a slacker."
Gu Li: "It's not impossible."
Jiang Xu said, "You were flipping through the book so diligently before class, I thought you were going to study hard."
Gu Li confidently stated, "I'm strong enough without having to work hard. This is leaving a way out for others, don't you understand?"
"A genius is right beside me," Jiang Xu joked.
"Yeah, you should be secretly happy." Gu Li glanced at Jiang Xu's book, which was still on the first page. "Looks like I have another genius by my side."
Jiang Xu: "I'm generous, just laugh it off."
The two exchanged a glance and both seemed quite amused.
