Chapter 51 Changing Clothes

Jiang Xu listened to the voice so close to his ear and looked at the scene before him. "You're quite accurate. You have both, don't you?"

The rain did indeed suddenly intensify, and the old little umbrella did indeed leak.

The drop of water landed on Gu Li's red hair, and then slid down the wet ends to her neck. Jiang Xu raised his hand.

Gu Li clearly felt it too; the rain was a bit chilly. He hunched his neck and raised his hand.

The moment their fingertips touched, both of them were startled. Gu Li turned her head to look at it, then took her hand down and looked down to see that her hand was slightly damp. "Thanks."

Jiang Xu withdrew his hand, his fingertips dry but warmed by Gu Li's touch. "I wasn't really of any help."

He glanced at the spot where the rain was dripping, and a drop of water that was about to form fell again. Jiang Xu raised his hand to shield that spot. Just then, Gu Li looked up at the top of the umbrella and saw Jiang Xu's action of shielding. "It's okay, you don't need to shield yourself."

Jiang Xu said, "I was worried you'd be cold, so consider this extra exercise for me." The word "cold" carried a meaning that both of them understood.

Gu Li said, "I'll cover it up myself."

Jiang Xu said with a smile, "You're not giving me a chance to practice. You should watch your step, like when you're about to step into a puddle."

Gu Li turned her head and looked down. The ground was smooth and there were no puddles at all. "You really fooled me."

Jiang Xu: "I'll let you watch the road then."

Gu Li said, "Then I'll have to trouble you."

Jiang Xu said, "It's no trouble for your brother to take care of you."

Gu Li said, “My brother is so good with words,” he said calmly, “You made me so happy.” But there was no happy tone in his voice, only his increasingly rapid footsteps.

Gu Li wanted them to get home quickly; his arm must be sore from holding it up for so long.

Jiang Xu noticed Gu Li's change in pace and smiled slightly. "This rain is alright, isn't it?"

As the two approached the entrance to the residential area, they saw four people, who in turn also saw them.

Four people were holding two umbrellas; all of them were familiar faces.

Lu Chao looked at Jiang Xu and Gu Li approaching and said, "Hey, your brother Li and his new friend are taking a walk in the rain. They've completely forgotten about us, leaving us standing here waiting in vain."

Xu Lang received the signal and immediately replied, "No, I don't believe it. Brother Li wouldn't be the kind of person who gets bored easily." He turned to Xie Tao and said, "Tao, tell me this isn't true."

Xie Tao chimed in, "Hai, what do you think about this?"

Ji Hai also accepted it well, saying, "I feel there must be something fishy about this."

Gu Li stopped and looked at the four of them. "I'll pack you up and send you off to debut tomorrow," he smiled. "Aren't you all here enjoying the scenery under umbrellas? Don't be too envious. Why didn't you call me when you got there?"

Lu Chao raised his eyebrows at the man, "What do you mean you didn't call? Take out your water-damaged phone and see how many times we each called you?"

Gu Li said, "I won't look, it'll make you angry." He remembered that he had turned off his phone after arranging a get-together with the four of them in front of the auditorium. He was in the wrong, but he was still defiant.

Ji Hai said, "Let's go inside first. Look, your pants are all wet. But what is Jiang Xu doing?"

Jiang Xu: "The rain is leaking, let me cover it up."

Xu Lang: "I didn't believe it at first when I heard from Brother Chao that Brother Li had found a kindred spirit, but now I believe it to some extent."

Gu Li swiped her card and looked at Lü Chao, "Is this how you introduce us?"

Lu Chao, “I didn’t,” he retorted abruptly, “I clearly said…” He paused, realizing his words had backfired.

Lu Chao looked at Xu Lang, who smiled back at him, then hooked his arm around Xie Tao's, his baby face beaming with a smug smile.

Okay, he's been outmaneuvered by Xu Lang.

After swiping his card, Gu Li tapped it against his palm. "What did he say?" He looked at Ji Hai, his previously arrogant expression turning into one of hurt. "Hai, what did he say about me?"

Lu Chao knew it was over, and Ji Hai had been going along with him ever since he used this trick.

Ji Hai continued, "The fellow patients, and the series of exaggerated and excited descriptions, were unbearable to hear." He decisively abandoned Lü Chao, his nominal boss.

Gu Li smiled at Lü Chao, "Okay, I'll reward you with Xu Lang's innovative dishes. You don't need to thank me."

Xu Lang nodded with a smile, "Great! I just researched a few things that Xie Tao hasn't heard of yet."

Lu Chao's tongue went numb. He wondered how he could recover without any improvement.

Lu Chao: "I'm simply praising your good relationship and Jiang Xu as a perfect person."

Jiang Xu smiled back at Lü Chao and said, "Thank you." Just when Lü Chao thought he was going to say something on his behalf, Jiang Xu turned to Gu Li and said, "Thank you for helping me reward him too."

Lü Chao: Do you really think I didn't hear the gloating in your voice?

Six people were crammed into the elevator. Gu Li rummaged through her pocket for her keys. "Why are you all sharing an umbrella, two people to a single umbrella? Is this a new trend?"

Ji Hai handed tissues to the group, saying, "We were planning to come together from Langtao's shop, but it started raining just as we were about to leave. There were only two umbrellas in the shop, so we squeezed in."

Lü Chao said, "The umbrella is big enough that I didn't get wet at all."

Gu Li rummaged through the two pockets and continued searching. "I don't like hearing that. Take it back."

Lü Chao said, "Then I should say more."

Jiang Xu, "That wet patch on your back isn't what we were told."

Xu Lang turned to look at him and said, "It really is you. You're the only one who got soaked. Chao, you should reflect on your actions."

Xie Tao, "Let's reflect on this."

Lu Chao reached up and touched his back. "I suspect Gu Li splashed me with the umbrella just now."

The elevator arrived at the door, and Gu Li patted his pocket. "I have some bad news to mention."
