Chapter 84 Cousin

Jiang Xu grabbed Gu Li's forearm and pulled her back. Gu Li moved with the force, then steadied herself and put her other hand on Jiang Xu's shoulder.

After regaining her composure, Gu Li sighed, "We almost capsized in a ditch."

Jiang Xu: "So you have to watch the road when you're sailing, right?"

Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu and said, "You are the path in my eyes." He mumbled something, patting Jiang Xu's shoulder with his hand, "I'll never go wrong trusting you."

Jiang Xu released the person's hand, "I didn't believe your nonsense."

Gu Li turned back and continued leading the way, saying, "In my opinion, the road is just ahead."

Jiang Xu: "I hope you haven't misjudged me."

The road was indeed ahead. After making two small turns, the two saw a light. As darkness fell, the light became much more noticeable.

As you walk around, the view opens up to reveal an enclosed meadow with rows of small wooden cabins lit up. Barbecue grills are set up in front of each cabin, and people are grilling in front of almost every grill.

Gu Li and Jiang Xu stood side by side. "Look, we've arrived."

Jiang Xu: "Okay, you're great."

Gu Li said, "Let's go ask."

The two walked towards that place, and the first wooden house had a sign hanging on it that read 'For Sale'.

Gu Li glanced at it and said, "That's really straightforward."

Jiang Xu: "Indeed, there's no way to mistake it at all, that's good."

There was a small bell on the wooden door. Gu Li pressed it, and a voice from inside said, "Please come in." The wooden door opened automatically.

The cool air from the cabin instantly enveloped the two of them, and goosebumps immediately rose on their arms.

The lights were warm, and a person was sitting on the sofa. There was a TV in the wooden house, which happened to be showing "Empresses in the Palace".

The people watching TV looked over at the two of them, their gazes passing over Gu Li before settling on Jiang Xu.

Jiang Xu looked back and said, "We're here for a barbecue."

The boy sitting on the sofa suddenly stood up. "Damn! Bro, it really is you!" he said excitedly as he walked towards Jiang Xu.

Jiang Xu was somewhat stunned. He had clearly never seen this person before, yet this person acted as if he knew him, without any recollection of introducing the person's identity.

Gu Li stepped forward to stop the boy from getting any closer. "Speak properly. Don't come up here without a word and start calling us 'brother.' We're just guests."

The boy stopped when he was stopped. He looked at Gu Li and said, "You must be my brother's friend. My name is Jiang Chen, and I'm my brother's cousin."

Gu Li turned to look at Jiang Xu, "Cousin?"

Jiang Xu indeed had no memory; he didn't know what the original owner's situation was. "Then tell me my name?" He needed some more information.

Jiang Chen clapped his hands and said, "Jiang Xu, brother, although we only played together for a year when we were kids, and then I was abroad and we lost touch, I recognized you at first glance. You look just like you did when we were kids."

Jiang Xu nodded. "Aren't you afraid to admit your mistake?"

Jiang Chen waved his hand, "It doesn't matter if I'm wrong, it would be better if I'm right. Besides, all the tricks you taught me when I was little are enough for me to remember you perfectly."

Gu Li said with admiration, "You have a really good memory."

"That's right, my parents say that my good memory is my only advantage. Although I don't agree, I do have a pretty good memory," Jiang Chen said with pride.

Jiang Xu, "You said you went abroad, but you're back now?"

Jiang Chen chuckled, a little guilty, "I sneaked back here to play, so I found something to do. Luckily, business is pretty good."

Gu Li: "Business is booming! This place is incredibly popular; it's all over the internet recommending it."

Jiang Chen scratched his head. "It's alright, it's alright."

Gu Li said, "He's quite modest. Jiang Xu, your younger brother is really good at business. He has a whole set of marketing strategies, and he does more than just one thing. Xu Lang would like to exchange ideas with him."

Jiang Xu: "Pretty good."

Jiang Chen said, "Brother, don't tell my parents, or I'll definitely be arrested and taken back."

Jiang Xu: "I won't tell you. Every family has its own problems. You'll have to deal with them yourself."

Jiang Chen stood up abruptly. "Brothers, please sit down. It looks a bit strange for us to be standing."

Gu Li and Jiang Xu sat down side by side on the sofa. Jiang Xu pointed to Gu Li and said, "This is Gu Li, my friend."

Jiang Chen said, "Okay," he looked at Gu Li, "I'll call you Brother Li. Your hair color is really cool, and this curl looks really good."

Gu Li laughed, "Little brother, you really know how to talk. You're a great person overall."

Jiang Chen looked at Gu Li's face and said, "I'm not saying anything, you're really good-looking too, bro." He then looked at Jiang Xu and said, "Damn, you're really good-looking too, bro."

Jiang Xu said, "Kids shouldn't swear, and you're good-looking too."

Jiang Chen nodded, "This is the Business Bureau."

Gu Li: "No, this is a high-level game."

Jiang Chen: "By the way, you guys came here for barbecue, right? Come on, let's go together."

When the three of them came out, seeing that every shelf was full, Jiang Chen looked around again and said, "Looks like we'll have to wait. There are quite a lot of people tonight."

The three of them went back inside to enjoy the air conditioning and sat down on the sofa again. Jiang Chen handed them two bottles of Coke, saying, "I bought these; iced Coke is perfect for summer."

Jiang Xu and Gu Li took the cans, and Jiang Xu opened the opening, saying, "Perfect for catching up."

Gu Li: "It just so happens that I have a younger brother now."

Jiang Chen chimed in, "I just happened to find my brother's."

Jiang Xu held up the soda can towards Jiang Chen, "You're really cooperating."

Jiang Chen and Jiang Xu raised their glasses, saying, "I'll stick with the group. Remember to take me along next time you're doing something fun."

Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu and asked, "What did you play with him when he was little that he keeps talking about it so much?"

Jiang Xu asked cryptically, "Want to know?"

Gu Li nodded, then said to Jiang Chen, "Come on, let's have one too, and then you can tell me what your brother did for me."

Jiang Chen's can ran into Gu Li's again. He noticed that his cousin and this person seemed to be very familiar with each other. "My brother used to take me out to play a lot when we were kids. Back then, all the kids in that area treated us like the bosses. I remember feeling so proud back then."

Jiang Chen took a sip of cola and continued, "And when I was little, my brother always gave me special treats. In the summer, we would pick sweet potatoes and potatoes in the fields and roast them, pick all kinds of fruits, and go crayfish fishing together. We would come home covered in dirt and get scolded."

He thought for a moment and then said, "We had snowball fights and built snowmen together in winter. Our hands were frozen like carrots. I still feel cold when I think about it now, but that year was definitely the happiest year of my life. I have never experienced anything like that since I went abroad."

Jiang Xu listened to Jiang Chen's description without feeling any stinging pain, but he felt a sense of familiarity, as if he had actually experienced it himself.

He pondered for a moment, then asked, "How old were we back then?"
