Chapter 15: Sensible
Ding Dong
The doorbell rang outside.
Xu Chunian was about to stand up, but Bai Hui held her back and said, "Eat yours, I'll go."
After opening the door, Bai Hui was surprised to see the newcomer, "Huai Xu? Come in quickly."
"Mom, I'm here to pick up Zhuzhu." Jiang Huaixu looked tired. He must have rushed back without stopping after finishing his work there.
"Zhuzhu is eating. You must not have eaten yet at this time. We just finished eating too. Come in quickly." Bai Hui stepped aside to let him in.
Jiang Huaixu had just entered the house and subconsciously looked towards the restaurant. Xu Chunian was there too. She was acting coquettishly with Xu Zhen. The latter seemed not to want to pay attention to her, but his expression was not as tense as before. She helped Zhuzhu pick up food from time to time. Zhuzhu was a baby who was easy to worry about. She would eat whatever you gave her, and her little mouth was full of greasy food.
The atmosphere was just right, but he seemed like an outsider, out of place with them.
Xu Chunian seemed to have sensed something and glanced towards the door. The man in formal attire exuded charm from head to toe. When he saw her, his cold eyes revealed such complex emotions that Xu Chunian was unable to understand.
"Huai Xu?"
"good."
Bai Hui brought a new set of bowls and chopsticks, and Xu Chunian served him a bowl of hot soup.
"Warm your stomach first before eating."
Everyone at the table was stunned.
Jiang Huaixu was the first to respond, "Thank you."
Zhuzhu pushed her water cup in front of her father.
Jiang Huaixu touched her head.
After dinner, Xu Zhen and Bai Hui sent them to the car.
Bai Hui placed Zhuzhu on the child seat and said, "Huai Xu, bring Zhuzhu here next time you go on a business trip. You will feel more at ease when you are away."
"I see."
"Be careful on the road." Bai Hui reminded worriedly.
"Okay, you and Dad can go back and rest."
Xu Zhen waved his hands without saying anything, but his eyes fell on Xu Chunian who was helping Zhuzhu fasten her seat belt from behind.
Watching the car disappear into the night, Bai Hui sighed worriedly, "Tell me, what on earth does Nian Nian want to do?"
Xu Zhen shook his head. "It doesn't seem like he's pretending. Normally, he has to make a scene after coming back to feel better."
"Huai Xu is a good boy. How come Nian Nian suddenly..."
"Forget it, as long as she stops following that Qin Yuan, don't talk about her." Xu Zhen turned to look at her.
"After all this time, who said anything about her? It's all your fault. It's simply lawless." Bai Hui glared at him and changed the subject, "But although Nian Nian was a little willful and naughty in the past, she would never be so extreme as this."
"Who knows?" Xu Zhen turned around and walked back. "I don't know if I'm getting old, but tonight I seemed to see Nian Nian before she got married."
Bai Hui paused, "Don't say that, it's like a dream."
"Zhuzhu is so well behaved, she doesn't make any noise and can play by herself for the whole afternoon." Xu Zhen's voice slowed down a little, "I took her to buy toys in the afternoon, but she didn't want anything. She just took a box of Lego and wouldn't let me buy anything else."
"The more sensible she is, the more distressed I feel." Bai Hui closed the door. "Nian Nian has been in trouble this year, and we have been less in touch with Zhu Zhu. I was a little dazed when you brought her back today. How come she has grown so big now?"
"I'll buy some toys for the kids after get off work tomorrow. They'll come in handy whenever Zhuzhu comes over." Xu Zhen took off his coat.
Bai Hui didn't say anything for a long time, frowning slightly, "I'm still a little worried, please contact Doctor Chu tomorrow."
"Um."
