Ji Changning v Si Chen (14)
He held onto the wall beside him but didn't vomit anything.
Si Chen patted her on the back, "Are you okay?"
Ji Changning waved his hand, "I'm fine."
Si Chen looked around and said, "Wait for me."
Ji Changning squatted on the ground, his forehead against the wall, waiting for the nausea to pass.
Si Chen came back with a bag of water in his hand. It contained all kinds of water, mostly sour ones.
Ji Changning glanced at him and turned away, "Just give me water. I feel like vomiting when I see drinks."
Si Chen took out a bottle of water, put the bag aside, unscrewed the water and handed it to her.
Ji Changning took a sip and felt relieved.
"Open your mouth." Si Chen suddenly spoke.
"Huh?" Ji Changning was confused and turned to look at him.
Si Chen put the thing in his hand to her lips, and Ji Changning opened her mouth and ate it.
I don’t know what it was, but my mouth was drooling like crazy and it felt very sour, but the nausea was quickly suppressed.
"How about it?"
"What's this?"
“Sour dried papaya.”
"Where did it come from?" Ji Changning asked puzzledly.
"When I went to buy water, I asked the boss. The boss's wife happened to be pregnant, so she gave me a small can of this and asked me to try it." Si Chen raised the small can in his hand, "Give it to me."
"What kind of explanation is this?" Ji Changning said as he extended his hand.
Si Chen held her wrist and rubbed the area under her thumb with one hand. "The boss lady said that this is called the Venus Hill, and it can relieve morning sickness."
"How are you, are you feeling better?"
"It seems to be fine. I still want to eat that dried papaya." My mouth started watering just thinking about it.
Si Chen handed her the small jar and helped her stand up. "Do you want to continue playing or go back?"
"Let's walk a little further. It seems like there are more and more people."
Si Chen pulled her wrist and walked out, "Do you like the hustle and bustle?"
Not knowing what he was thinking of, Ji Changning lowered his eyes and said, "I like it, I liked it a lot before."
I don’t know why, but wherever she goes, there are rumors. She has never been liked by others, and she is almost numb to hearing harsh words.
"Wait a moment." Si Chen pulled her to the other side, "This way."
Ji Changning followed him to a convenience store and stopped.
The proprietress looked up. Si Chen looked upright, resolute, and handsome, and was easy to remember. "Hey, it's you. How's your wife? Is she feeling better?"
Si Chen nodded, "This dried papaya is very effective, thank you."
The proprietress waved her hand, "It's okay, I understand. Is this your own wife?"
Si Chen looked back, with a hint of smile in his deep eyes, "Yes, she is my wife."
Ji Changning's face turned red as he raised the dried papaya in his hand and said, "Thank you."
The proprietress laughed out loud, "What's the big deal? They are a talented man and a beautiful woman, what a perfect match."
Si Chen thanked him again, "I would like to ask, how is this dried papaya made?"
"It's not really a request for advice." The proprietress called inside, "Husband!"
There was a response from inside, and soon a man came out, "What's wrong?"
The proprietress briefly explained it to him.
The boss smiled and said, "This is easy. Wash and peel the sour papaya, remove the seeds and core, and cut it into this thick slices."
He gestured with his hand.
"Add water and rub it repeatedly to wash it several times, mainly to remove some of the sour taste of the papaya, then soak it in clean water for a few hours and then change the water and continue soaking."
The boss thought for a while, "Before you go to bed at night, drain the water, sprinkle a little salt and stir evenly. The next day, boil a pot of water and put the papaya in the pot for a few minutes, then take it out and drain the water. When the water is almost dry, add yellow rock sugar and purple basil, stir evenly and marinate for four or five hours. Use the right amount of rock sugar and purple basil. If you like sourness, put less. Stir as many times as possible in the middle to make it easier for the sugar to dissolve and the flavor to absorb. The papaya that has been marinated overnight is already very colorful and flavorful. Take it out, drain the sour and sweet water, and bottle it."
Si Chen nodded, "How much sugar is in this?"
"My wife likes sour food, so I added half a pound of yellow rock sugar to two pounds of papaya."
"OK, thanks."
The boss waved his hand and said, "You're welcome. Oh, by the way, bottle the sweet and sour water and put it in the refrigerator. You can mix it with water and drink it, or pickle radishes. My wife eats these during pregnancy and there is no problem."
"OK, thanks."
On the way back, Si Chen bought a bag of papayas outside.
