Chapter 118 Returning to the Village

Wen Jiaojiao's eyes darted erratically among the shops on both sides of the road. She paused, then said:

"Hey bro, buy me some sunglasses, and a mink coat too. Whether you have money or not, get yourself dressed up so you can cover up your lie when you get home."

She was determined to keep the lie going, so that Xu Cuifen would be spared the villagers' sarcastic remarks.

Wen Zhaoye looked at her in surprise and said:

Are you sure you want to wear a fur coat in this weather?

"Yeah, anyone can dress up and pretend."

Wen Jiaojiao nodded seriously, while Wen Zhaoye was exhausted from running around. After all, buying a mink coat in the middle of summer was no less expensive than buying an ice pop in the winter.

He called Ma Cungen and asked around at several places before finally finding a mink fur shop that hadn't sold any stock from last year.

"Is this what you two wanted?" The fur shop owner, who only opens for a short period in winter, had come all the way from afar.

Wen Jiaojiao glanced at the piles of mink coats in the warehouse; the styles were basically the same. She said to the shopkeeper:

"Give me a long one and a short one, so I can change them when I get home."

The shopkeeper took out the clothes, Wen Zhaoye paid and took the clothes, and Wen Jiaojiao held out her hand and said:

"Brother, give me one first. I'll put it on as soon as I get off the bus and see people. If anyone dares to say I'm not doing well outside, I'll let them touch this material."

Wen Zhaoye glanced at the sun outside: It will probably be evening when she gets off the bus. I hope she won't die of heat.

Wen Jiaojiao pulled over the long coat and hugged it to her chest with satisfaction, saying, "Wearing this mink coat instantly gives you a rich woman's aura."

Wen Zhaoye thought for a moment and decided to play along, saying, "Let's go, let's buy another watch, a big gold ring, earrings, a big gold necklace, and a big gold bracelet."

Wen Jiaojiao followed behind him with a happy smile, saying:

"Just buy some fakes. If you wear them, even the richest man in China doesn't look as rich as me."

Wen Zhaoye chuckled and said:

"If the color fades on the spot, do you even want to live?"

"That makes sense. Let's make it into a gold-plated iron."

“My wife definitely needs the best of everything. It has to be pure gold, wide and heavy, the more eye-catching the better.”

Wen Jiaojiao: "..."

The two of them, each carrying a mink coat, frequently attracted attention on the street.

Wen Zhaoye, without paying any attention, took her hand and bought everything.

Wen Jiaojiao carefully tucked her pockets full of gold, not daring to even go to the toilet on the train, and feeling like everyone looked like a thief to her.

Just as she put her hands in her pockets and looked around warily, suddenly, a group of people appeared in front of her. The man in the lead said righteously:

"Train attendant, she's definitely a thief. Ever since she boarded, she's been looking around furtively. What else could she be but looking for a target?"

Wen Jiaojiao's face stiffened: "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm just worried that a thief might be targeting me."

Men don't let go of the path:

“You haven’t taken your hand out since you boarded the train, so you must have something stolen. Train attendant, check her.”

Three dark lines appeared between Wen Zhaoye's brows. He directly pulled out the receipts from his pocket and said:

"This is the receipt for the purchase. My sister just brought too many valuables and was a little worried."

Wen Jiaojiao secretly pulled on her trouser pocket again, letting the train conductor see it, and the group apologized and dispersed.

The sky was getting dark and yellow as the train slowly pulled into the station.

Ignoring the surprised looks from everyone, Wen Jiaojiao put on a mink coat, wore head-to-toe gold jewelry, and of course, a watch as well.

Suddenly, an old man appeared and said:

"Girl, how much did you pay for these fake gold pieces? Touch the one around my neck, it only cost three cents. You mustn't buy one that's too expensive."

Wen Jiaojiao stared stiffly at the large gold beaded chain around his neck, the same style as hers, and wiped the sweat from her face:

"Then you bought it at a higher price. The whole set only cost me two cents."

Upon hearing this, the old man slapped his thigh in frustration: "I absolutely have to take a bus back to find that beast."

A large group of men, women, and children, holding palm-leaf fans and chatting, gathered at the village entrance. Hearing the roar of the motorcycle, they all looked over and made way.

"Oh~ Jiaojiao is back? Aren't you hot wearing so much?"

"It's not hot, and it's cool to ride in the car, so I bought a jacket to wear so I won't get cold."

After Wen Jiaojiao finished speaking, she looked up and saw the group of people. She suddenly felt as if even a passing dog would get a scolding here.

She let out a long, heavy breath, patted the man's shoulder, and said in a low voice:

"Brother, stop. Instead of waiting for others to be sarcastic, I'd rather take the initiative."

Aunt Liu spoke first:

"Jiaojiao, your aunt needs to talk to you about something. My son got into some trouble, could you ask that person to help him get out of it?"

Aunt Li: "And me, Jiaojiao, now that you've made it out there, help my son find a city girl, preferably the only daughter of a wealthy family."

Aunt Wang: "And my daughter, I'll help her find a job with a city person who has a job."

Aunt Cui: "My family is simple. We just arranged for my son to be a director."

Wen Jiaojiao, momentarily unaware of the force of Xu Cuifen's shout, got off the motorcycle with a dark and sour expression, saying rather speechlessly:

"Please, I'm a person, not a turtle in a wishing well. You need to be more reasonable in what you say."

The group of people all expressed their reluctance:

"Jiaojiao, now that you're successful, you can't just ignore us, your relatives."

"Exactly, you've become successful and now you're turning your back on us. We've watched you grow up."

"If you continue like this, don't blame us for finding out about your relationship with Xu Dajun in the city and ruining your marriage."

"That's right, I know your mother has already bought her dowry."

The group had spent the last few days trying to win Xu Cuifen's favor, but upon hearing a hint that things might not go smoothly, they immediately changed their tune.

Wen Jiaojiao looked at the faces of the people and recognized them as the ones who had gossiped and mocked her on the very day she transmigrated.

She said to Aunt Liu in an annoyed tone, "Your son has done something wrong, I think he deserves to be taught a lesson."

Otherwise, if they steal this time, they could kill next time. Besides, even if I had resources, I wouldn't waste them on this kind of person.

After Wen Jiaojiao finished speaking, before Aunt Liu could utter a sound with an embarrassed expression, she turned directly to Aunt Li and said:

"And you, your son has a face full of pustules. The only redeeming quality he has is that he knows he has kidney deficiency, so he soaks half a tub of goji berries in an enamel mug every day to try and improve it."

In the city, aren't wealthy only daughters like hot commodities? I've only ever heard of princesses marrying frogs, never toads. You need to know what kind of pot goes with what kind of lid, right?

Aunt Li also looked embarrassed, and Wen Jiaojiao, not letting the others off the hook, said:

"Your daughter can't even find a husband in the countryside, and you want to find someone from the city? Are all the city people like Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, saving people from suffering?"

And you, your son stutters when he speaks, yet he wants to be a department head? Why don't you just fly to the moon?

The men's faces were uniformly dark and sour, and they began to speak in a sarcastic tone:

"You're not doing anything? Could it be that you can't do it or that no one is pursuing you at all?"

"If you had said so earlier, we would have understood. After all, you're in this state, who would be blind enough to want you?"

"No wonder your mom has been nowhere to be seen all day. Could it be that she let something slip and is hiding at home, too ashamed to face anyone?"
