Chapter 177 Wen Zhaoye Appears Before Wen Jiaojiao

Ah Long hung up the phone dejectedly and said:

"He's just worried about you."

Wen Jiaojiao completely lost her appetite.

"I'm truly speechless. Being monitored is one thing, but now they're eavesdropping everywhere."

Li Yu tentatively asked, "Miss Jiang, were you forced into it?"

Wen Jiaojiao could tell from his expression what he was up to—he just wanted to fly onto her fingertips, no matter how many times he tried. She ignored him.

Wen Zhaoye looked at the phone that had been hung up, and changed his clothes with unease.

"Li Zhu, drive me to the restaurant where they are."

Li Zhu, who had just knocked on the door, glanced at the stack of reports in his hand, then put them down and led him to the restaurant.

He parked the car in a spot where he could clearly see Wen Jiaojiao and said, "Is this okay? Should I get you a pair of binoculars?"

Wen Zhaoye didn't have time to listen to his joking voice; he looked at the group of people who were eating.

"Tell me, in what way am I inferior to that man? Why has he never treated me to a meal?"

Li Zhu: "Don't overthink it, it's bad for your wound."

Wen Zhaoye sighed, leaned back in his chair, and stared at her with deep eyes.

Suddenly, Wen Jiaojiao stood up and bumped into the waiter who was carrying the pork rib soup. With a "bang", the scalding hot soup spilled onto the back of her hand.

Li Zhu's pupils widened in surprise. Before he could react, he heard the sound of the car's back door opening, and then he saw Wen Zhaoye rush over.

Wen Jiaojiao's hand was bright red; she gasped in pain.

Suddenly, a large hand grabbed her other arm and dragged her towards the bathroom sink. Only after her arm was pressed under the running water did she regain her senses and look up to say, "Thank you..."

Before she could finish speaking, her pupils trembled slightly.

Wen Zhaoye deliberately ignored the promise he had given her. He suppressed his wildly beating heart, indifferently lifting his eyelids to look at her and saying:

"What? Don't you recognize me?"

Wen Jiaojiao's mind went blank for a moment, then she suddenly remembered the figure she had seen on set before, and she murmured:

When did you arrive here?

Wen Zhaoye's large hand was still holding her arm in the water, and he said cryptically:

"Don't overthink it, I'm here for what I need to do."

Wen Jiaojiao lowered her long eyelashes and said:

"oh."

Wen Zhaoye touched her head with his other hand and said:

"What, do you miss me?"

Wen Jiaojiao: "..." The moment you asked that question, I instantly stopped thinking about it.

She was in a foreign land, with no acquaintances around. When she saw Wen Zhaoye, she had to admit that she was delighted, but only because it felt like meeting an old friend.

Three seconds passed before Wen Zhaoye spoke:

"Wen Jiaojiao, how are you? Do you want to come back with me?"

Wen Jiaojiao shook her head:

"No need, I told you I wouldn't hold you back. Besides, I bought a house here, and things will only get better from here on out."

Wen Zhaoye looked at her reddened arm and said in a distant tone:

"Does it still hurt? Let me take you to the hospital since we've known each other for a while."

Wen Jiaojiao: "No need for you to take me. I have something to do at the hospital, so I'll take care of it while I'm at it."

Wen Zhaoye bluntly stated:

"I've treated you like my wife for so long, and now that I see you, aren't you going to treat me to a meal?"

Wen Jiaojiao: "Is tomorrow okay? I promised someone I'd go with him."

Wen Zhaoye asked the question knowingly:

"You've already found someone you like?"

Fearing he would continue to pester her, and wanting to avoid delaying him completely, Wen Jiaojiao nodded and said:

"Yes, he's excellent, rich, and most importantly, he's very good to me. Once you've finished your business, go back."

Wen Zhaoye: "..." You've really managed to make me both angry and not angry.

Wen Jiaojiao advised:

"So, you're not young anymore. If you meet the right person, get married quickly. And you absolutely must not do anything illegal."

"Right now, I want to do something illegal." After saying this, Wen Zhaoye cupped her face and kissed her as she looked at him, puzzled.

Wen Jiaojiao's pupils widened. Before she could react, Wen Zhaoye released her with a cold face and continued the previous topic:

"Treat me to a meal."

Wen Jiaojiao looked completely bewildered: "What are you doing?"

Wen Zhaoye's expression was cold and expressionless, his tone serious, but he uttered a very inappropriate remark:

"I kissed you because I missed you and couldn't help it. I asked you to treat me to dinner because you've been holding the title of my wife for so long."

Now the whole village knows my wedding is off, so this is all something you owe me.

Is it all my fault?

Wen Jiaojiao glanced around. Fortunately, the bathroom was empty, and Ah Long was guarding the door, so no one came in. She gritted her teeth and said:

"Ah Long, we agreed that if any man gets close to me, you'd punch him hard. How can you do this to your boss?"

“It’s okay, I can pretend I don’t know,” Ah Long said. “I just think he’s pretty good, unlike those other men, so I’m giving him special treatment.”

Wen Jiaojiao cursed inwardly:

"Aren't you afraid of that guy in the hospital anymore?"

Ah Long, with his back to her, struck a classic bodyguard pose and said:

"It's okay, I'll silently support them competing fairly."

Wen Jiaojiao glanced at Wen Zhaoye: "..."

What kind of magic does this have? It actually made even the incorruptible Ah Long, who only cares about his salary, turn a blind eye.

Wen Zhaoye said indifferently:

"Treat me to a meal, otherwise I won't be able to go back to the village after losing my wife. I don't mind staying at your house."

Wen Jiaojiao stared at him in disbelief and said:

"So what exactly are you doing here?"

Wen Zhaoye stopped pretending and spoke frankly:

"Miss you."

Wen Jiaojiao's nose blew out thick, turbid breath:

"When did you arrive? Was that you I saw from behind on set last time?"

Wen Zhaoye nodded, his meaning ambiguous, and said:

"I have nowhere to stay."

Wen Jiaojiao was too lazy to ask him where he had been staying lately, and then listened to his nonsense. She frowned and said:

"so what?"

Wen Zhaoye: "So I want to stay at your house."

Wen Jiaojiao gritted her teeth:

"Then what?"

"I'll let you live with me."

"And then what?"

"Sleep as usual."

"And then what?"

"I'll marry you and take you home."

Wen Jiaojiao would ask through gritted teeth each time, while he would remain indifferent but give straightforward and frank answers.
