Chapter 210 Clear Fish Pond

The next day, it was still dark.

Wen Jiaojiao knew Wen Zhaoye was going to Qingyu, so she insisted on going with him early in the morning.

At this moment, a crowd of people had already gathered around the fishpond.

When they saw Wen Zhaoye bringing Wen Jiaojiao over, they all greeted him.

Wen Zhaoye offered everyone a cigarette, and when he encountered someone of a higher generation, he would greet them respectfully, showing no airs whatsoever.

Wen Jiaojiao stood silently to the side, wearing a mask.

Although she ignored them, the group showed no displeasure whatsoever; one of them even praised her, saying:

"The girl Zhao Ye found this time looks really good."

"That's right, we're happy for you that you've found a good woman."

"This one is so much better than that Jiaojiao. Not only is she beautiful, but she also comes from a good family. Zhaoye, you're really lucky now."

Wen Zhaoye glanced at Wen Jiaojiao, whose eyes were growing increasingly dark, and chuckled softly.

"Really? What's so good about it?"

The man continued to praise:

"That's for sure. Even though I can't see her face clearly, I can tell from her aura that she's definitely someone that Jiao Jiao can't compare to."

"Think about what that Jiaojiao has to offer. She's been with men before, and she's lazy and good-for-nothing. You're really lucky you didn't want her."

"You know what, Jiaojiao probably did something improper somewhere after running off like that."

"By the way, Zhaoye, did Jiaojiao run away on her own, or did you two have a fight and you didn't want her anymore?"

"It ran away on its own."

A woman's voice came from beside them, and everyone fell silent and looked over.

Then, Wen Jiaojiao took off her mask, revealing her delicate and beautiful face.

A look of astonishment crossed the group's eyes. The man who had just spoken was the first to react, exclaiming in surprise:

"Isn't this Jiaojiao?"

"Oh dear, Jiaojiao, why are you making fun of your uncle?"

Wen Jiaojiao knew she couldn't hide it from Song Yan on her wedding day, especially since Song Yan was also in Hong Kong and frequently saw it in the newspapers.

Later, when the TV series was released in mainland China, it would likely attract even more criticism.

Before anyone could speak, she said in one breath:

"I don't know how I ended up in the back mountain, and I also lost my memory. You all call me Wen Jiaojiao."

I also thought I was Wen Jiaojiao, but then I remembered that my home is in Gangcheng.

Someone just happened to come looking for me, so I went back. Any objections?

One of the men spoke up:

"But you look exactly like Jiaojiao."

Wen Jiaojiao said calmly:

"There are many people in the world who look alike, there's nothing strange about it. Besides, I looked like her two years ago, but I might not still look alike now."

One of the men saw Xu Cuifen approaching and greeted her:

"Cuifen, the person who stayed at your house before wasn't your daughter at all, it was this person, were you aware of this?"

Wen Jiaojiao and Wen Zhaoye were taken aback, then Xu Cuifen said with a smile:

"I know, how could I not know? But I think she looks like Jiaojiao, and the fact that she appeared in Daxi Village means that we are destined to be together. So let's treat her like our own daughter."

The man found it strange, after all, Xu Cuifen was known for being fiercely protective of her own; no matter how wrong her daughter was, she was always right.

Conversely, unless it's her daughter, she'll be persistent and difficult to deal with. He asked curiously:

"You really think that way?"

Xu Cuifen said happily:

"If we don't think this way, how else can we think this way? We're all getting on in years. If my daughter doesn't come back, we're counting on them to take care of us in our old age."

"There's no point in arguing about that now. As for my darling, if she doesn't want to come back, she doesn't have to."

The man who had spoken earlier spoke again:

"If that's how you think, then you're absolutely right. And how lucky you are to have picked up a rich family's daughter for free."

Wen Jiaojiao's gaze softened for a moment, and she couldn't hear the voice coming from beside her at all.

As everyone began to disembark, she leaned closer to Xu Cuifen and said:

"You really..."

"Jiaojiao, Mom can tell at a glance that you believed your excuses to everyone."

Wen Zhaoye suddenly lowered his voice and interrupted her.

He knew Xu Cuifen's character best, and knew that she absolutely believed Wen Jiaojiao was concealing her identity and not telling the truth.

This is also what he is most worried about. Once the matter is exposed, even if the King of Heaven himself comes, as long as Xu Cuifen is still in good health, she will definitely make a scene. So he still has to keep it a secret.

A layer of doubt appeared in Wen Jiaojiao's eyes, only to hear Xu Cuifen say:

"Girl, that was a brilliant move of yours."

Wen Jiaojiao's gentle eyes gradually turned melancholy as she said:

"Um."

Wen Zhaoye took her hand and comforted her:

"And me too, honey."

Wen Jiaojiao secretly clenched his large hand and murmured:

"It seems like you're the only one left."

Wen Zhaoye raised his hand and touched the stray hairs on the back of her head, comforting her:

"Okay, don't overthink it. Your husband will take care of things if anything happens."

Wen Jiaojiao's lips curled into a slight smile:

"You can go down now, those people are still waiting for you."

Wen Zhaoye released her hand and boarded the boat. The man who had just spoken ill of Wen Jiaojiao was now so obedient that he didn't dare to breathe too loudly.

These days, nobody's rich, but if you help someone slaughter a pig or catch fish, the usual outcome is either a meal or each family giving you a fish.

This is considered a decent New Year's gift.

Wen Jiaojiao sat in the wooden house, covered with the small blanket that Xu Cuifen had brought. Her gaze passed through the small wooden door and fell on Wen Zhaoye in the fishpond.

Suddenly, Wen Zhaoye turned around and met her gaze; both of them smiled slightly.

Wen Jiaojiao was the first to silently look away:
