Chapter 212 Pregnancy

With a "beep," the call ended.

Zhou Jinyan handed her the phone and said:

"Next time she calls you and I want to hear what other outrageous things she can say."

Wen Jiaojiao took the phone and looked at Wen Zhaoye, saying:

Why didn't you tell me he was coming?

Wen Zhaoye sat to the side and said:

"It's not a bad thing to let him know what that girl is really like. What does it mean to just date without getting married? Isn't that just being a scoundrel?"

"I think I used to think that way too, so you're insulting me along with everyone else?" Wen Jiaojiao chuckled.

"However, I think she's a lot like you. She has a vivid imagination, and before, she always thought Zhou Jinyan liked her."

You're no worse than others, and you always add your own drama to my life, insisting that I like you and that I'm lusting after your body, right?

Zhou Jinyan couldn't help but laugh out loud. Wen Zhaoye's ears turned slightly red, and he whispered:

"There are outsiders here, please give me some face."

Zhou Jin said:

"If you put it that way, I think they truly are siblings, both with equally rich imaginations."

Wen Jiaojiao said helplessly:

"But speaking of which, you really have no interest in Jiang Ci?"

Zhou Jinyan revealed the truth:

“Every time I see her, I feel like Zhaoye is pursuing me, and this feeling is both funny and quite uncomfortable.”

Wen Jiaojiao's shoulders trembled with laughter, and Wen Zhaoye said irritably:

"Get lost, I'd never chase after you."

Wen Jiaojiao joked:

"Looking at it now, we do look somewhat alike, and more importantly, our personalities are even more similar in some ways. No wonder you think that way."

Zhou Jinyan teased her, going along with her meaning:

"So, would you really be able to bring yourself to kiss your best buddy?"

Wen Zhaoye was disgusted:

"So it's obvious you can talk now, right?"

"To be honest, your wife says you two look alike." Zhou Jinyan said, then suddenly seemed to remember something and added, "Oh right, weddings involve teasing and pranks in the bridal chamber, right?"

Wen Zhaoye recalled the pranks he had seen on wedding nights in the village and immediately suppressed his laughter, saying:

"Remember to tell them when the time comes that they are not allowed to do anything vulgar to my wife."

Wen Jiaojiao chuckled softly and said:

"So you mean it's okay to be vulgar with you, right?"

Wen Zhaoye noticed that the two of them were actually teasing him back and forth, so he raised his arm and pulled her into his arms, playfully saying:

"Who's your husband? Why are you always siding with outsiders?"

Seeing the two of them embracing each other without regard for his single status, Zhou Jinyan's smile froze as he said, "I'll go out first."

Just then, Xu Cuifen's voice came from outside the door:

"Zhaoye, come out and kill the fish, marinate it now, and you can take it to the port city to eat later."

Zhou Jinyan chuckled and said:

"Boss Wen, let's go back to Gangcheng and have some salted fish at your place."

"I'll bring some for you too, so you won't miss home all the time while you're there."

Wen Zhaoye walked towards the door, jokingly.

Zhou Jinyan followed behind, watching a bunch of lively fish. Wen Zhaoye, on the other hand, came from a rural background and showed no disgust at the dirtiness, skillfully cleaning the fish.

Wen Jiaojiao came out a moment later, and a strong fishy smell filled the air.

With a "vomiting" sound.

She suddenly felt nauseous and vomited.

The group paused, turning to look at Wen Jiaojiao, but Xu Cuifen was the first to react:

"Jiaojiao, is it... you know?"

Wen Zhaoye then realized what was happening, hurriedly washed his hands, and pulled her along the way:

"Come on, let me take you to the hospital to get checked out."

Fortunately, there was no one else around. Wen Jiaojiao smiled slightly and said:

"We're getting married in a few days. What if we find out we're a month pregnant now? Wouldn't that be bad?"

Wen Zhaoye insisted on taking her onto the motorcycle track:

"What's wrong with it? Didn't you say back then that you weren't going to stay here anymore?"

Just as Wen Jiaojiao was about to sit down, Xu Cuifen said worriedly:

"Zhaoye, ride slower, Jiaojiao can't handle the jolting right now."

Actually, she was pregnant at that time, and she was about to give birth when she was still planting rice in the fields. When she first got pregnant, she had no rest at all. Even during her postpartum period, she had to wash diapers and clothes. But she still loved her own daughter.

Wen Zhaoye's face was full of anticipation and excitement. He rode away on his motorcycle, turning back to call out:

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of Jiaojiao."

Xu Cuifen couldn't help but confess again:

"Look ahead while riding your bike, or you'll fall over again."

Wen Jiaojiao was speechless.

They don't even know what's going on, yet they're worrying unnecessarily. What if they just found the fish smelled bad and were a little nauseous? They'd be so disappointed.

Wen Zhaoye advised:

"Jiaojiao, don't feel pressured. If you're not pregnant, we can try again. I'm actually fine, I'm calm and not excited."

Wen Jiaojiao lay on his back, speechless:

"I'm not under any pressure at all, but your heartbeat is so fast it's hurting my ears. What kind of calm is that?"

Wen Zhaoye's toughest approach:

"My heart beats this fast all the time."

Wen Jiaojiao chuckled softly, not exposing her lie. She quickly arrived at the hospital, where the doctor gave her a pregnancy test. After taking the test, Wen Jiaojiao showed it to the doctor and said:

"It's two lines, but one is dark and the other is light."

Wen Zhaoye stared intently at the doctor, who glanced at the test strip and said in a calm tone:

"Yes, you are pregnant, but it's still early in the pregnancy. Just go home and rest."

A look of intense joy appeared on Wen Zhaoye's face. He hugged Wen Jiaojiao tightly and said excitedly:

"Jiaojiao, did you hear that? The doctor said we're pregnant."

Wen Jiaojiao said speechlessly:

"That's all you're good for. It's just a pregnancy, what's there to get so excited about?"

Wen Zhaoye held the sheet in one hand and took her slender hand in the other, saying:

"Come on, let's pick out something for the child now."

Wen Jiaojiao: "Are you crazy? We're going back to Hong Kong, and these things are hard to bring."

Wen Zhaoye said:

"I can also buy you some nutritional supplements for pregnant women while I'm at it."

Wen Jiaojiao seized upon the key words and said:

"Oh, so now I'm just a bystander, right?"

"You've only just gotten pregnant and your symptoms are already this obvious?"

Wen Zhaoye had heard of other people's wives getting pregnant, nitpicking over the wording, being unreasonable, and even wanting the stars in the sky.

He felt that the children belonged to both him and Wen Jiaojiao, and that they should both love them.

Wen Jiaojiao didn't want to be angry, but she understood the implication in his words and suddenly felt a surge of anger.

She left first, leaving Wen Zhaoye behind, saying:

"I've seen it all. You've forgotten your wife now that you have a child."

Wen Zhaoye followed behind, coaxing him:

"You're overthinking it. Your wife is more important than your child."

"Give me a break."

Although Wen Jiaojiao said that, she still liked the child just as much in her heart.
