Soon, she was four months pregnant. That day, Wen Jiaojiao was at home when Jiang Peitian called again, saying:
"Jiaojiao, go and find out if it's a boy or a girl, so I can prepare a gift for the child, right?"
Upon hearing Jiang Peitian's voice, Wen Zhaoye said helplessly:
"This is the tenth excuse you've used to make us check the gender. Can you please stop calling with this as the only reason?"
"Don't you prepare clothes for your child or anything? Checking the prices will at least ensure you buy the right ones."
Wen Jiaojiao, with her long, slightly wavy hair and wearing a mustard yellow sweater that accentuated her fair skin and beautiful face, sat on the sofa drinking milk and said with a smile:
“I asked last time, and they said they can’t tell the gender of a third child because they’re all crammed together and their hands and feet are covering it.”
Jiang Peitian gave up on his thoughts:
"Okay, you have to tell me as soon as you have a baby. I'm really looking forward to having a grandson."
Wen Zhaoye, too lazy to listen to his grandson's words, grabbed the phone, hung up, and looked at Wen Jiaojiao with a slight smile, saying:
“Speaking of which, honey, we really should start preparing things for the baby.”
Wen Jiaojiao bluntly stated:
"Don't think I don't know you've bought the kids a lot of toys lately. But I'm curious, why didn't you prepare clothes and shoes? Why did you only buy these?"
Wen Zhaoye's handsome face broke into a smile. He didn't say anything, but instead led Wen Jiaojiao directly to a bustling street, into a shop with its doors tightly closed. He took out his key, unlocked the door, and said:
"Let's go in and take a look."
Wen Jiaojiao looked up at the storefront. She had passed by several times before and thought it was a newly opened women's clothing store by Sunshine that was currently closed for renovations.
She frowned slightly, pushed open the door, and just then, the overhead lights came on.
The store, brightly lit, is filled with rows of maternity and baby clothing.
Wen Jiaojiao looked at the man beside her with a surprised expression and said:
When did you open it?
Wen Zhaoye casually grabbed a small piece of clothing, no bigger than the palm of his hand, and said:
"When you found out you were pregnant with triplets, you thought that since men's clothing wasn't very profitable, you might as well switch to selling maternity and baby products."
Since I also use this brand, I'll just use it as an expansion of my product category.
"Compared to you, the three pairs of socks I crocheted are really not very presentable," Wen Jiaojiao said awkwardly. "It seems like you crocheted half of them."
Wen Zhaoye carried the small basket in one hand and put his other arm around her shoulder:
“It’s different. What I did can be done with money, while what you did was something you did even though you knew you weren’t good at. It shows that you value our child enough.”
Wen Jiaojiao looked at the rows of autumn clothes and said:
Are you planning to reopen in the fall?
"We'll be opening in a few days. Since we usually prepare baby clothes in advance, it's too late to make summer clothes now, so we'll just go straight to autumn clothes."
After Wen Zhao finished speaking, she picked up a small red bib the size of a palm and said, "Look at this, isn't it cute? I don't know how a child so small can grow so big."
"You weren't this little bundle of a baby when you came here?" Wen Jiaojiao said with amusement, then remarked with a sigh:
Ms. Xu has made about ten cotton bellybands. Now she doesn't have to do anything else; she just thinks about making clothes for her child every day.
Sometimes I think to myself, I'm taking away other people's maternal love, and even my own child is taking away someone else's grandmother's affection.
"Don't think like that. Xu Cuifen is actually enjoying a good life with us. She has a nanny to take care of her, wears gold and silver, and lives a much easier and happier life than raising her daughter's child."
Moreover, if it weren't for you, I might not even have let them live in the house back in our hometown.
Wen Zhaoye is known for his vindictiveness, but his only acts of kindness are all related to Wen Jiaojiao.
Wen Jiaojiao chuckled softly, then put a few pairs of socks into the basket Wen Zhaoye was carrying. The two of them discussed and picked out a bunch of little clothes and hats to take home.
Xu Cuifen saw the two of them and said happily:
"Daughter, Zhaoye, you two go check the storeroom. Your dad has been secretly making a big cradle lately."
I said, "Why do you never see him except when you're eating and sleeping?"
The villa has a guardhouse in the front yard, a gazebo in the back yard, and a storage room in the corner, which is quite a distance from the main house.
The two bypassed the woods and, as soon as they approached the storeroom, they heard the sound of hammering coming from inside.
Wen Jiaojiao pushed open the half-closed door and saw three cradles assembled together, with the bottom part seemingly detachable.
When Wen Xiaojian saw the two of them, he stopped hammering nails and said, "What brings you two here? I specifically told your mother not to let you two know, but I just told her this morning and you two found out this afternoon."
Wen Jiaojiao walked in and said with a smile:
"Wow, Dad, you're so old, and you still know how to pull these surprises."
Wen Xiaojian sighed:
"I don't have much ability, unlike Zhao Ye's biological father who can buy land and property for his child, so I can only do these low-level things."
I hope you two won't mind. Also, I'll make mine; if you two don't want to use it for the child, that's fine too, since it's not very well made anyway.
Wen Jiaojiao coaxed:
"Who said that? Purely handmade items are rare, especially three of them together. The design is so unique, you can't buy them even with money."
"If you put it that way, I'm relieved. But it's dirty here, so you two shouldn't stay. I can finish in a couple more days at most."
After Wen Xiaojian finished speaking, he waved his hand, signaling the two to leave.
The two walked along the shady path, the branches and leaves overhead gradually turning yellow and falling to the ground, marking the arrival of the ninth month of pregnancy.
Wen Jiaojiao arrived at the hospital early to prepare for childbirth because she was unsure of the exact delivery time and was also worried about complications during her triplets.
