Chapter 244 Reencounter with Zhou Qiang

Two days later, Qi Meijing returned to the port city. Jiang Peitian still found the itinerary from the airline.

He had been waiting at the airport for a long time, but Qi Meijing saw him and left without even saying goodbye.

Jiang Peitian, however, did not see her. He waited at the airport for a full half day, but still could not spot her.

He dialed the number again, suppressing his anger from waiting for so long, and said, word by word:

Where did you go?

The voice on the other end was as cold as ever:

"I'm home, but I didn't go to your place; I stayed at a hotel."

A long breath escaped from Jiang Peitian's nose:

Which hotel?

"None of your business. I'll go straight to the hotel tomorrow."

After Qi Meijing finished speaking, she hung up the phone. If there was any need to act before, now that she was over half a lifetime, men were really dispensable.

Jiang Peitian stared at the phone that had been hung up. When was the last time he had been treated like this? But now there was nothing he could do but sigh helplessly.

The next day.

The whole family gathered at the Yingyun Hotel. Qi Meijing and Jiang Cicai arrived late, and Lin's father had already heard some rumors about them.

Although such things are rare, Jiang Ci has the entire Jiang family as her dowry, and he believes that no one would refuse such a gift.

Jiang Peitian looked at Qi Meijing. It had been so long since he'd seen her; she seemed like a completely different person. Although her appearance was the same, the fine lines around her eyes were clearly visible.

However, her overall demeanor was no longer dull, but elegant, just like the glamorous young lady I had just met in my youth.

A mix of emotions welled up inside him, and he gripped his wine glass tightly. Qi Meijing, for Jiang Ci's sake, still sat next to Jiang Peitian at this formal meeting, and said with a gentle smile:

“Now that the child is older, I went out to play for a while. I hope Huasheng won’t blame me.”

Lin Huasheng raised his glass and offered a toast, saying:

"Auntie should have her own life."

Wen Jiaojiao and Wen Zhaoye also sat to the side, but they were not the main characters at the banquet and did not say much. After the meal, the two walked home.

As dusk settled, the orange glow enveloped the two of them, and the air was filled with the aroma of cooking fires.

Wen Zhaoye held her hand, a slight smile playing on his lips, and said:

"Honey, it seems like it's been a long time since we've taken a walk like this?"

Wen Jiaojiao:

"Yes, I spend all my free time doing frivolous things, how can I squeeze out time to wander around?"

"Heh~" Wen Zhaoye let out a low, mellow laugh: "I'll be 28 in another month, so I can make you happy for several more decades."

Wen Jiaojiao smiled lightly, pursing her lips:

"I'm not ashamed anymore."

Just then,

A man in tattered clothes walked towards them and bumped into Wen Jiaojiao's shoulder.

Wen Zhaoye immediately helped Wen Jiaojiao up, and then heard someone say from the other side:

"sorry."

Wen Jiaojiao was startled upon hearing this, and she suddenly spoke up:

"Wait a moment."

The man paused, turned around, and saw that it was Wen Jiaojiao. He immediately said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

Wen Jiaojiao came closer and said:

"That Brother Qiang, right?"

Zhou Qiang had long lost his former arrogance; he bowed humbly and said:

"I don't deserve it, I don't deserve it."

After Wen Jiaojiao escaped, she asked Jiang Peitian to spare a few people. She glanced at his clothes, noticing they were tattered, and couldn't help but ask:

"I think you're quite capable, so why is this happening?"

Zhou Qiang slowly raised his head, revealing a hideous scar on his profile, which startled Wen Jiaojiao.

"Why is this happening?"

"When I jumped into the sea, two people died on the rocks, and I..." Zhou Qiang's words trailed off, the meaning clear. He lowered his head again, his long, slanted hair obscuring his scars, and murmured:

"Fortunately, I survived."

Wen Jiaojiao: "How old are you?"

"I'm thirty-five." A sense of inferiority welled up in Zhou Qiang's heart. He glanced at her furtively, then quickly lowered his head and said, "Miss Jiang, I'll be going now."

"Wait," Wen Jiaojiao called out again.

"What do you want to do with him? Don't forget that Jiang Peitian's example is still there."

Wen Zhaoye could sense that Zhou Qiang was interested in Wen Jiaojiao from the time Wen Jiaojiao mentioned him before. He felt a sense of crisis and said in a jealous tone.

Zhou Qiang stood there, his back to the two people, the orange light falling on him, making him look thin and desolate.

He turned around, bent over, and said:

"Sir, Miss Jiang probably just felt sorry for me, she didn't mean anything by it."

A cold, ruthless glint flashed in Wen Zhaoye's eyes: "It's not your turn to speak."

Wen Jiaojiao soothed her gently:

"Don't be angry, I didn't mean anything by it. I'm just thanking him for helping me avoid being touched by other people. Otherwise, how could I have waited for you to come and save me cleanly?"

Wen Zhaoye's tightly pursed lips, trembling with anger, gradually lifted, and he said arrogantly:

"Alright, if that's how you put it, then I should thank you."

Zhou Qiang's lofty ambitions, once worn down by life, have now dwindled, leaving him with even less to hope for. He is a typical example of someone who has endured hardship and whose once unyielding spirit has been worn down.

He waved his hand and said:

"No need, no need. I'm all alone anyway. I can earn a living by unloading goods for people. I don't need you to arrange any work for me."

Wen Jiaojiao said with amusement:

“Even if I were to arrange a job for you, my brother probably wouldn’t allow me to keep you by my side.”

Zhou Qiang was slightly taken aback, only to hear Wen Jiaojiao say:

“I don’t have much money on me right now, but it should be enough for you in an emergency. I hope you can use this money to fulfill your dreams from when you were young.”

dream?

Zhou Qiang, now halfway through his life, feels that his once-proudly intelligent mind was a complete joke.
