The sky was a pale gray. Wen Zhaoye was drenched in sweat, too exhausted to keep his eyes open, and fell soundly asleep on the bamboo mat.
Wen Jiaojiao quietly put on her clothes. Looking at her short-sleeved shirt, which had been torn into a cardigan, she frantically searched the room for the buttons.
This button is white with a bellflower pattern, which isn't very common, so if he finds it, he'll definitely know it's hers.
But after searching high and low, she was still missing the last two. Not daring to delay any longer, she covered his lower body with her T-shirt, wrapped her clothes tightly around herself, and hurried home before dawn.
Cai Mengjing planned to work at a restaurant in the county town today. She was hurrying along, a cloth bag slung across her shoulder, when she caught a glimpse of Wen Jiaojiao, disheveled, in the fields. She murmured to herself:
"Why did she get like this at this hour?"
The willow trees provided shade where she stood. Wen Jiaojiao looked around anxiously but found no one. Her tense posture relaxed slightly.
"Xu Cuifen, Xu Cuifen, you are really ruthless. You didn't care if people died from using such a heavy amount. My arm is almost broken, not to mention it, it's also chafed and hurts."
Cai Mengjing hesitated for a moment, her gaze turning sinister as she looked at the shed by the pond, her mind filled with a mad desire for revenge. She walked straight over to it.
"I'd like to see who you stole this time, you slut."
As Xu Cuifen was drifting off to sleep, she suddenly felt something hard poking her face repeatedly.
She had just impatiently slapped it away when the thing poked at her again, with such force it seemed like it wanted to stab her to death.
Her cheek stung, and she turned to look. She saw Wen Jiaojiao leaning against the window, one hand wrapped around her shirt.
With his other hand, he was struggling to poke her with a thick, long branch when he exclaimed in surprise:
"Jiao~"
Before she could finish speaking, Wen Jiaojiao nervously made a "shh" gesture.
After stopping her from making a sound, I ignored her wide grin and mouthed softly:
"Open the door for me right now."
Xu Cuifen walked into the main room with a gleam in her heart and unlocked the door: "Daughter, it's done, isn't it? Now when he comes back, I'll force him to marry you."
"It really was you." Wen Jiaojiao glanced behind her, and seeing that no one had noticed, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She looked at Xu Cuifen with resolute eyes and said firmly, "If you dare to tell anyone about me and him, I will never come back to this family."
Xu Cuifen immediately panicked, and under her warning gaze, she didn't dare to raise her voice at all:
"Girl, why? Don't you like him? Now that you're in a relationship, he'll definitely have to marry you."
Wen Jiaojiao hurriedly went back into the house and said in a low voice:
“I haven’t had the kind of relationship you’re imagining with him yet. Now you need to find me a button that matches this shirt and sew it on. Also, you must tell me that I came back last night, or I’ll keep my word and never come back.”
Her last sentence was resolute, leaving Xu Cuifen momentarily confused about her attitude towards Wen Zhaoye, but she was terrified that her daughter would run away again.
She quickly did as instructed, quietly went back to her room and rummaged through her clothes, but couldn't find the same button at all. She couldn't help but worry:
“Daughter, no, this button is a style that Mom bought a couple of years ago.”
Wen Jiaojiao grabbed the cosmetics and applied them in large quantities to the hickeys on her neck and collarbone, anxiously saying:
“Then take a similar set of buttons and quickly replace them all for me. He can’t possibly remember exactly what the buttons on my clothes look like.”
Xu Cuifen dared not delay for a moment. She tore apart her newly made shirt, feeling increasingly regretful about what happened last night. She was afraid that Wen Zhaoye would find out, and that Wen Jiaojiao would leave home again for some unknown reason.
At the pond, Cai Mengjing had just walked along the pond embankment to the shed when she cautiously peeked inside through the crack in the door.
Wen Zhaoye's hair was disheveled, and he was only wearing jeans. His back was covered in nail scratches, and he was putting on a T-shirt.
She was deeply shocked, unable to understand how such an outstanding person could do something so absurd.
If he really wanted a woman, he could have any kind of woman he wanted, so why debase himself by having an affair with a woman like her here?
Wen Zhaoye finished dressing, his mind still a mess; he hadn't been conscious at all last night.
All he knew was that the other party didn't want him to cross the final line, and kept using various methods to replace it, while the straw mat rolled up in the morning was even more filthy.
His brows furrowed with a gloomy and restless expression, filled with a deep fear that he wasn't sleeping with the person he wanted. He glanced to the side and noticed a shadow cast under the door, and called out warily:
"who?"
Through the crack in the door, Cai Mengjing met his dark, handsome eyes. Her heart skipped a beat, and she swallowed hard, her mouth trembling.
"It's me."
Wen Zhaoye's heart sank when he heard who it was, and his lips trembled slightly as he said:
"Last night...was it you?"
Cai Mengjing frowned slightly. Although she didn't understand why he didn't even know who he had slept with,
But if this could make him take responsibility and I could marry him and live the life of a wealthy wife, it wouldn't be a bad plan.
She pushed open the door and said frankly, "It's me."
