Wen Jiaojiao stayed at home for seven or eight days in a row. Although she would try to get up and walk around each time Wen Zhaoye was not at home,
But most of the time I still lie in bed, and my back and legs inevitably ache a bit.
At night, she lay on the bed with her back to Wen Zhaoye and raised her hand to rub her lower back again.
After harvesting wheat for two days and planting rice seedlings for several more, Wen Zhaoye was also exhausted and his back ached. He leaned against the headboard and glanced at her movements, a playful smile appearing on his lips:
Would you like me to give you a massage?
Wen Jiaojiao turned to look into his deep, handsome eyes. Seeing that he didn't seem to be joking, she shook her head awkwardly.
"No need. You've had a long day. If you say that, I'll feel uncomfortable."
"It's alright. It's your fault for getting injured. It's only right that we take care of you."
Wen Zhaoye lay on his side, raising his hand to massage her lower back. Because they were so close, the breath he was exhaling as he spoke inadvertently sprayed into her ear.
Although Wen Jiaojiao slept with him every day before, they always kept a distance between them before going to sleep.
After waking up, Wen Zhaoye was always the first to get up, completely unaware that she was holding him.
She awkwardly moved her head away from him, but thankfully the kneading sensation on her lower back relieved the soreness, so she didn't pull away and said gently:
"I'll give you a massage later."
Her skin was soft, and through the thin nightgown, the sensation felt in Wen Zhaoye's palms. His ears burned, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
"I've finished all the housework. I'll be going out tomorrow and won't be back for a few days." If you don't want to keep up the act, get down and walk around a bit, so you don't hurt your back or become paralyzed from lying down.
Wen Jiaojiao felt quite comfortable from the massage, and her thoughts became scattered. Without answering, she drifted off to sleep.
Hearing her even, strong breathing, Wen Zhaoye involuntarily moved closer, pressing his body against her slender back.
His large hand, gently caressing her lower back, tentatively tightened its embrace around her. His handsome face was flushed, and he pressed his cheek against her fair skin, his voice low and husky with tenderness as he spoke:
"My silly darling, she's so clingy. She must have known I wouldn't be back for several days, which is why she fell asleep feeling so upset."
"Do you think I didn't say anything? Why go to bed with these worries on your mind? How can you be in a good mood if you don't see me first thing in the morning?"
"But don't worry, your brother Ye will definitely come back to be with you as soon as possible, so you won't miss me so much at home that you cry every day."
The thought of parting tomorrow and not knowing when they would meet again kept Wen Zhaoye awake all night, and he held her and kept talking to her.
The little mouse in the corner hole scratched its head irritably, as if to say that if you keep talking, it won't stay in this rich house no matter how wealthy it is.
The first light of dawn broke, and the sky began to lighten.
Wen Jiaojiao had just woken up and found the house empty. A surge of joy rose in her heart, and she decisively went to Xu Cuifen's room, beginning a frantic search of everything.
But after searching for a long time, they still couldn't find any trace of the household registration book.
She was standing furtively in front of the wardrobe, rummaging through the pockets of her winter clothes, unaware that someone was standing at the door.
A wave of disappointment washed over him. His face darkened as he stared at her, his tone cold and stern.
What are you looking for?
Wen Jiaojiao paused, recognizing the person, sighed, and turned to face Wen Zhaoye, saying:
"To be honest, I don't want to pretend anymore. I need to find my household registration book and get another ID card today, but I never thought about touching a single penny of my family's money."
Wen Zhaoye stared intently at her, guessing that she wanted to run away:
"No one in the village dares to gossip about you now, so why do you still want to go out?"
Wen Jiaojiao ignored him and continued rummaging through the items, saying:
“I have lofty ambitions. Staying here will prevent me from making money. With my brains, I can make a fortune as soon as I step outside.”
Wen Zhaoye stepped forward and gently grasped her delicate hand and neck, stopping her movement, and said in an ambiguous tone:
"You've been gone for two years, and I haven't seen you make any money."
Wen Jiaojiao felt insulted, even though in this era, making money required having money to invest first.
But she prided herself on having the vision and foresight of someone from the future, believing she would surely make a name for herself in the world.
She stared at him with wide, beautiful eyes, grabbing his large hand and saying:
"Hey~ I have a short temper. The more you say that, the more money I'm bound to make."
Wen Zhaoye had planned to leave early in the morning, but Xu Cuifen insisted on taking Wen Xiaojian to the clinic.
He was told to wait at home until Wen Jiaojiao woke up, to tell her he would be back at noon, and to tell her not to cook for herself, lest she get hurt again.
He figured she'd arrive in the afternoon anyway, and if she got distracted thinking about him and did something, and then something happened and no one saw it, he figured it wouldn't matter if she arrived a little earlier or later. Who knew he'd stumble upon this scene?
He grasped her hand and neck, led her to the main room, and said in a gentle tone:
"It seems your amnesia is quite severe. How about I take you to the places you used to live so you can remember things?"
Wen Jiaojiao was stunned for a moment, and only after breaking free from his grasp did she speak:
"The place where I used to live?"
Wen Zhaoye made up his mind to take her with him, thinking that it would be easier for others to see her face and ask about the situation. Otherwise, if they blindly searched around and encountered someone with the same name, they might get incorrect information.
He nodded and said sincerely, "Come with me to Yuncheng, and I'll show you around."
Wen Jiaojiao understood what he meant, and her heart sank to the bottom. She knew that Wen Zhaoye really intended to start investigating her.
She shook her head, suppressing the panic in her voice: "I'm not going. My foot isn't fully healed yet, and it will hurt if I walk far."
Wen Zhaoye frowned and stared at her, his tone consoling:
"Let's take a car. When we get there, you don't like walking, so I'll carry you on my back." I know you're so lazy that you don't even care about me.
