Chapter 74: The old factory couldn't be retained; switching factories would definitely bring wealth and riches.

Seeing that he hadn't spoken yet, the waiter impatiently urged him:

"Do you want it or not? There are other people in line behind you. If you're not going to buy it, don't waste my time."

Wen Jiaojiao couldn't understand his expression either, but remembering the time when osmanthus cake was sprayed on his face, she said to the waiter:

"Then give me a pack of peach shortbread, but forget about the osmanthus cake." Don't choke me.

Wen Zhaoye paid with a cheerful expression, took the peach shortbread handed to him by the waiter, and led her to other counters:

"I'll let you eat your fill when we get home."

Wen Jiaojiao walked ahead, her face making no attempt to hide her disdain:

I'm a second-generation demolition beneficiary; what good food haven't I eaten?

They ate their fill in one go, they're so shameless, and they don't even worry about choking on their phlegm when they talk.

The area around the supply and marketing cooperative was a chaotic scene, filled with shouts and condemnations.

The man was tall and imposing, his white shirt torn and wrinkled. His arm was being held tightly by Wen Damei; he gave it a disgruntled shake and said in an unfriendly tone:

"Don't be shameless with me. We're not engaged or married. We just dated for a bit, nothing happened, and you're still clinging to me like this?"

Wen Damei has been trying her best to hide the fact that she was fired. Even a few days ago, when Wang Dong was about to go to the factory to find her,

She made a special trip from Dashi Village to wait at the factory gate, afraid that Wang Dong would find out she had lost her job and choose to break up with her.

But when she came to find Wang Dong again today, she found him and his mother shopping with another woman.

She was furious and confronted him, only to find out that he had run into his colleagues from Chenxuan Garment Factory the day before and learned that he had lost his job.

Tears welled in her eyes, and she said, unwilling to give up:

"Dongzi, we've been together for half a year now. I believe you still have feelings for me. I'll find another job. Please don't leave me."

Wang Dong's mother had always hesitated because of her rural background, and was in a state of "keeping her options open" when it came to choosing a daughter-in-law.

The moment I learned she had lost her job yesterday, I didn't hesitate to find her a matchmaker and set her up on a blind date. Today, I'm picking out some things for my date, trying to make a good impression.

She was afraid that Wen Damei's outburst would ruin things, so she said sarcastically:

"Da Mei, our Dongzi is a city guy, and he's a proper driver. He dated you for six months before breaking up with you, but it was just because he felt you two weren't compatible, nothing else."

If you truly like him, you should wish him well and hope he soars to great heights, instead of... pestering him relentlessly, don't you think?

Wen Damei knew he was trying to distance himself from Wang Dong's ungrateful behavior. If it were anyone else, she would have unleashed a torrent of abuse on both of them.

However, after meeting Wang Dong's blind date, she felt that he was not as good-looking as her, so she still held onto hope for the relationship.

Her face was streaked with tears as she weakly protested, "Auntie, that's not how it is. Didn't you say you agreed to our engagement before?"

Fearing that she might reveal more and leave a bad impression on her blind date, Wang's mother said with a cold face and a pressing tone:

"I had no idea he had a girlfriend before. He only told me about you two a few days ago, saying he felt your personalities weren't compatible."

Now it seems I was right. A young woman like you, grabbing and pulling at men in the street—how can you expect to have a good life in the future?"

Whispers and pointing fingers rose from the surroundings. Wen Damei, being young, though often spreading rumors about others, couldn't bear hearing gossip about herself.

She let go in a panic, tears streaming down her face as she said, "Dongzi, ask yourself honestly, have I been bad to you? Are you really willing to spend your whole life with a woman you don't like?"

The woman beside him wasn't particularly beautiful, but her eyes gleamed with shrewdness. Seeing the two arguing back and forth, she took two steps back and declined, saying:

"Auntie, I have some things to take care of at home, so I'll head back now."

After she finished speaking, fearing she would get into trouble, she quickly turned around and squeezed out of the crowd.

A sense of foreboding crept into Wang's heart. She decisively stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back. Her cold expression suddenly softened, and she said:

"Meimei, don't go. Auntie promised to take you to buy two sets of clothes to take back with you."

She valued this woman highly, after all, her family background and personal qualities were quite good, making her a more than suitable match for Wang Dong.

But from what she had just heard, Jiang Mei roughly understood the truth of the matter: marriage is a woman's second chance at life.

Seeing their true colors today, it would be unwise to blindly jump in now.

Even if the mother and son tried to persuade her with the most eloquent words, she still waved her hand in refusal and squeezed through the crowd, saying:

"No need, you guys just take care of your own things. I also feel that our personalities aren't really compatible, so I'll be leaving now."

Watching her leave without hesitation, Wang's mother knew the matter was completely over, so she didn't bother to lower herself and try to persuade her to stay.

She turned and glared fiercely at Wen Damei: "Don't think you can be with my son just like that. Don't you know who you are?"

"Hilarious! Who do you think you are? Are you royalty or a nouveau riche?"

Wen Jiaojiao stood on tiptoe, trying to see through the gaps in the crowd, but she couldn't make out who was inside. However, she roughly knew it was an injured woman.

As a fellow female character, she felt a strong sense of identification and couldn't help but feel pity. Seeing injustice, she couldn't help but let out a low sneer.

Upon hearing the sound, everyone turned to look at her, some even making way for her.

It's unclear whether she was hoping to watch the fight unfold or wished for her to step in and teach the mother and daughter a lesson.

Standing in front of Wen Damei, Wang's mother simply stopped pretending and unleashed her shrewish, street-smart nature, saying:

"Who are you? Are you a dog? You have to interrupt as soon as you hear my voice."

"Your prediction is damn accurate; I really am a dog."

Wen Jiaojiao was born in the Year of the Dog in her previous life, so she didn't take it as an insult at all and replied seriously.

A few seconds of silence followed. Wang's mother stood there, bewildered, unsure how to respond.

Wen Zhaoye took it as a retort and didn't think much of it. He stood behind her, carrying large and small bags, and urged her:

"Let's go home."

He wasn't that magnanimous; even though the other party was just Aunt Pang's daughter, he still held the attitude of refusing to help her in her time of need.

Wen Jiaojiao ignored him. As Wang's mother moved, she saw Wen Damei's face clearly and stepped forward to comfort her:

"Beautiful lady, let's go. This kind of man isn't worth it. Besides, he can't be kept at the previous factory. He'll definitely make a fortune and become rich by switching factories."

Wen Damei stared at her blankly, momentarily forgetting to cry:

She seems to have something wrong with her?
