Wen Jiaojiao's face turned pale, her heart suddenly turned cold, and her dark, beautiful eyes narrowed sharply. In an instant, she had already decided where to bury her.
Suddenly, a deep, resonant voice rang out: "Last night, you even remembered to wash two nectarines for me."
Wen Jiaojiao's eyes widened in surprise, but when Xu Cuifen winked at her, she suddenly understood what was going on, and she was completely relieved.
Cuifen, you've finally done something worthwhile!
Xu Cuifen merely took two nectarines and placed them on the stool beside the bed while Wen Jiaojiao was changing clothes, and then added:
"Honey, our daughter washed two nectarines for you last night, but when she saw you were asleep, she just left them there without disturbing you."
Wen Xiaojian was overjoyed and ate it for breakfast after brushing his teeth.
Wen Zhaoye was now absolutely certain it couldn't have been Wen Jiaojiao, since Xu Cuifen was definitely the one who put the drug in.
His only request was to marry Wen Jiaojiao, and now that the matter was practically settled, he hadn't heard a single word from her.
He absentmindedly fetched water, the hazy, lingering sensations of last night like waves crashing against his nerve cells:
Who could it be?
Wen Jiaojiao thought the matter was over and breathed heavily, feeling as if she had escaped a disaster.
She walked into the kitchen with her sore legs and sat behind the stove: "Brother, let me boil some water for you."
Wen Zhaoye stood by the well, his gaze turning to Wen Jiaojiao with a complex mix of emotions upon hearing the sound. A faint sense of loneliness emanated from him as he murmured to himself:
"If I had known, I wouldn't have let you come back last night, so that someone wouldn't have taken advantage of the situation."
Wen Jiaojiao didn't hear him. She yawned several times, her beautiful eyes filled with tears, and she forced herself to stay awake.
Is this kid made of steel?
After a busy night, I only slept for less than an hour before coming back full of energy.
Wen Zhaoye felt a wave of nausea at the sight of the bamboo mat. He pulled out a lighter, and with a "whoosh," the metal lighter emitted a blue flame that fell onto the mat. The flame flickered on his face, giving him a slightly sinister look.
"You'd better never get caught by me, or I'll kill you."
The fishpond was located in a remote area and was unattended year-round. On his first night there, someone accidentally trespassed, leading him to assume that the person had ulterior motives.
Fortunately, it didn't go all the way to the final step, and the other party was intentionally keeping it hidden, so he didn't have to easily use his marriage to make up for any mistakes.
Wen Jiaojiao's drowsiness was chased away, her expression slightly stiff, and a storm of tears flashed through her mind:
Even if you were to take responsibility for me, I wouldn't be willing, yet you still managed to pull this stunt.
Wen Zhaoye poured water into the large pot, grabbed Wen Jiaojiao's shoulder, and seeing her raise her hand to cover her collar in fear, he lifted her up without thinking and said gently:
"I can do it myself."
Wen Jiaojiao hadn't forgotten the several hard bites she'd received on her chest, which were impossible to hide.
She glanced at his reaction in alarm: he probably hadn't seen it yet.
Xu Cuifen dared not even think about the two of them anymore, and without even glancing at them, she said:
"Dinner's ready."
Wen Zhaoye looked at the girl who usually only served a small amount of noodles, and suddenly filled a large bowl to the brim, and asked in surprise:
Are you very hungry?
How can I not be hungry?
I'm so exhausted.
Wen Jiaojiao was inwardly raging, but outwardly she said without showing it, "I plan to finish the noodles and then skip lunch."
"Do you want more noodles?" Wen Zhaoye asked, his handsome brows furrowed. After asking, he saw her shake her head and walk into the main room.
He took the largest bowl and ladled out a heaping amount of thick soup, completely ignoring the fact that only noodle soup remained in the pot.
That medicine was really strong; it exhausted me.
Xu Cuifen watched the two leave one after the other. She picked up her bowl, scooped soup from the left and right, but couldn't scoop out a single noodle. Knowing it was all her fault, she helplessly ladled out a bowl of soup and handed it to Wen Xiaojian.
"Let's just have something simple for breakfast."
Wen Xiaojian leaned against the bedside and took the porcelain bowl, saying:
"Why did you make flour soup this morning? How can Jiaojiao eat that?"
The two people eating noodles at the table exchanged a glance without saying a word. Xu Cuifen urged, "Just eat your food, you talk too much."
After dinner, Wen Jiaojiao was extremely sleepy and lay down on the bed in the inner room without any hesitation. The floral curtain blocked all view.
She heard the sound of the bathwater gradually stop and immediately perked up, saying, "Brother, come here."
Wen Zhaoye abandoned his plan to pour out the bathwater, lifted the curtain, frowned, and went inside:
"What's wrong?"
Wen Jiaojiao sat cross-legged on the bed, gazing at him with a smile, and patted the spot next to her:
"Come up and sleep in my bed."
This...this is way too direct, isn't it?
Wen Zhaoye stared in astonishment at her seemingly genuine expression, completely forgetting any taboos she might have.
He decisively opened the mosquito net and lay down beside her, his handsome eyes flashing with a mixture of restraint and anticipation as he stared at Wen Jiaojiao:
I was a bit tired anyway, so I decided to grant her wish to be on top.
Wen Jiaojiao smiled, revealing eight teeth, displaying an extremely attentive service attitude. She stretched out her hands and placed them on his thighs, her voice ingratiating:
"Brother, is this much force okay?" I haven't forgotten how much effort you put in last night. Giving you a full-body massage right now would surely make you so grateful that you'd want to leave your fortune in my name after you die.
Wen Zhaoye's handsome face, which had been showing a hint of anticipation, visibly revealed a touch of embarrassment.
He raised one hand in mid-air, but paused for a few seconds before abandoning his attempt to push her away, a faint smile appearing on his lips.
I bet he was just using a massage as an excuse to touch me, and then he started getting inappropriate. He's really cunning.
Wen Jiaojiao vigorously kneaded his legs back and forth, saying, "And you can sleep in my bed later."
A smile flickered in Wen Zhaoye's dark eyes, and he let out a soft "Mmm."
