Wei Shufen was momentarily speechless.
The first time she saw Lin Ye, a man with sharp, angular features and a wild nature, she realized he was her type.
She couldn't find a husband when she was young, and eventually, at her father's request, she married Han Dongfeng, who was a good match for her.
Later, she hoped her daughter would find this type of man, but unfortunately, her daughter was timid and introverted, and at twenty years old, she still hadn't found a suitable partner.
Knowing that Lin Ye was actually Lu Wanqing's husband, she disliked Lu Wanqing even more.
"Thirteen thousand yuan, can you afford it?" she said coldly.
So what if you find a tall and strong husband? You're still broke and constantly getting the short end of the stick!
Wei Shufen herself never worked or earned money in her entire life, yet she looked down on women who toiled and struggled for a little money, thinking they were incompetent!
Before Lu Wanqing could speak, the old lady glared at her with horrified eyes and said, "Shufen, what are you doing? This house isn't worth that much money, it's utter nonsense!"
"Mom, I only said that after I checked the market price. The family that came to see the apartment this afternoon could offer at least 12,000! I just wanted to scare them. Even if I offered them a discount to 10,000, they still couldn't afford it!"
When Wei Shufen defended herself, her tone was full of arrogance.
The old lady's chest heaved with anger as she said to Lu Wanqing, "Girl, don't be anxious. If you really like this house, I'll only charge you 10,000 yuan, and you can pay me back slowly later."
Upon hearing this, Wei Shufen looked at her in confusion, "Mom, are you getting senile? Selling them cheap is one thing, but to ask for payment later? What if they run away?"
"Why would they run away? They're all college students, highly educated and of high quality, unlike some people who almost didn't even graduate high school and have no manners at all!"
The old lady finally calmed down.
Wei Shufen almost had a heart attack from anger. What she meant by almost not being able to graduate from high school was exactly her!
Logically speaking, someone from her background should either go to university or study abroad, or at least get a degree. But she's one of those people who just can't get into studying. If she hadn't been lucky enough to marry Han Dongfeng, she wouldn't even be able to support herself!
The old lady disliked her, but she never used that to mock her. If she hadn't been pushed to the limit today, she wouldn't have made those sarcastic remarks.
Seeing that the two women were about to start fighting again, Lu Wanqing quickly said:
"Grandma, don't even mention ten thousand, let's just go for twelve thousand, and we'll exchange the money for the deed at the same time!"
Anyway, she'd be looking elsewhere, and she and the old lady seem to have a connection, so buying this place wouldn't be a bad idea.
Wei Shufen was stunned after hearing this.
While she was still speechless with shock, Lu Wanqing took out a savings book from the house, which contained 45,000 yuan.
The old lady was also shocked. You can't judge a book by its cover. She thought she was being kind by taking people in for a night, but little did she know that she had more than enough money to stay in the best guesthouse.
The old lady was overjoyed, but gave Wei Shufen a disapproving look before going inside to get the house documents.
This house has changed hands several times, but all the paperwork is complete.
Lu Wanqing then hand-wrote another agreement, stipulating that the house could not be reclaimed if it appreciated in value or was demolished in the future, and had the old lady sign it.
"No problem, I'm not an untrustworthy person. However, I do have one condition: could I leave some of the decorations here for now and come to visit them often?" the old lady said after signing the document.
Lu Wanqing smiled and said, "No problem. I'd love to have you here, but please don't bring any other people."
Wei Shufen, who had been suspiciously observing Lu Wanqing, frowned upon hearing her words. She was clearly referring to herself!
Having a little money doesn't make you anything special. You'll find out when you start school that money alone isn't enough to get by in Beijing.
The house had already been sold, and the old lady had nowhere to live. She then reverted to her arrogant demeanor, urging Aunt Pang to pack her things quickly so she could go back before lunch.
While Aunt Pang was tidying up, the old lady seized the opportunity to play with the children, laughing together with the babies.
She hadn't been this happy in a long time, turning into a playful old woman, completely disregarding her image, making funny faces just to make the baby laugh.
Miaomiao was the most cooperative; every time the old lady made a funny face, she would giggle nonstop.
Ququ was the hardest to amuse. While the other two little ones had their faces flushed from laughing, he just twitched the corners of his mouth to indicate that he had laughed enough.
His little expressions made the adults laugh uncontrollably.
Pleasant times always pass quickly. Around noon, Grandma Han was helped away by Aunt Pang and Wei Shufen. She was so reluctant to leave, as if she thought those babies were her great-grandchildren!
After the old lady left, Lu Wanqing and the others exchanged glances, all feeling as if they were in a dream, realizing that they truly had a home in the capital.
That speed is amazing.
This environment is fantastic.
Lin Ye rushed into the kitchen to familiarize himself with the stove.
The old lady liked to eat rice cooked with firewood. There was an earthen stove made of red bricks in the kitchen, and a coal stove next to it. If she wanted to burn firewood, she had firewood; if she wanted to heat the stove, she had coal briquettes.
The cupboard was full of all kinds of seasonings. The old lady left them all so that Lin Ye wouldn't have to go and buy them.
"This old lady is a good person; she'll definitely live to be a hundred," Zhao Xiaolan said upon seeing the scene.
Lu Wanqing also said that the old lady was very open-minded and did not fuss over trivial matters like others, and that she would be a very fortunate person in the future.
With their family settling in, the once lifeless courtyard suddenly came alive.
Lin Xiaocui and Luo Chunlei were also delighted. Since there were many rooms in the courtyard, they simply reserved two for them to stay in on weekends.
The two didn't stand on ceremony and readily agreed. In the capital, newly acquainted people, no matter how familiar they are, are at most considered friends. But Lu Wanqing's family are relatives, and the kind of relatives who are loving. They understood this clearly.
After the meal, Lin Xiaocui and Luo Chunlei took a bus to Tsinghua University.
With just over ten days until the start of the new school term, many students have already arrived at school, and some have not even left, so the campus is not very deserted.
Parcels in the mailroom are being received as usual.
After entering the school, they went to the mailroom first, but found that the package had not yet arrived, so they went back to their dormitories.
After having dinner together that evening, the two went to the mailroom again and found that two packages had arrived. They thought that the packages would probably all arrive by tomorrow, and they would then deliver them to Lu Wanqing.
Just as the two were discussing how to move several large packages over, Luo Chunlei saw his professor riding a bicycle towards them.
"Hello, Teacher Han!" Luo Chunlei stopped and smiled at Han Lei.
