Lin Ye and Lu Wanqing's bowls trembled slightly. All six members of the family had mushroom poisoning. How did that happen?
"Who told you to come find me?" Lu Wanqing thought her secret of possessing the spiritual spring water had been discovered, and she felt a little guilty.
"I don't know either! Zhou Ling said you know how to detoxify, so I came here." Xu Erlai said, sliding down the wall and falling to the ground.
For the sake of his family's lives, this usually hopeless son of a bitch is truly risking his life this time.
Seeing his state, Lu Wanqing knew the situation was serious, so she quickly put down her chopsticks and got up. "Aye, I'm going to the Xu family."
Lin Ye didn't even bother to eat. After giving his mother a few instructions, he followed Lu Wanqing out the door.
"Wait for me!" Xu Erlai struggled to his feet.
Lu Wanqing had no time to care about him and had already walked quite a distance away.
Lin Ye strode quickly behind her, protecting her, afraid that she might fall.
When the two arrived at the Xu family's house, they saw several people lying on the ground, groaning and moaning.
Xu Bowen was in the most serious condition; he was foaming at the mouth and could no longer groan. Li Miaolian held him and fainted from crying.
Lu Wanqing hadn't expected the situation to be so serious, so she quickly told Lin Ye to start a fire and boil water.
She found a secluded corner, took out a large bowl of spiritual spring water from her spatial storage, added it to a pot, and began to cook mung bean soup.
The fire brought the water to a boil in just a few minutes. Lu Wanqing quickly ladled out the soup and, once it had cooled down enough, had Lin Ye give it to the men in the room. She then gave a bowl each to Li Miaolian, He Shujuan, and Zhou Ling.
After finishing a bowl, Zhou Ling gradually regained her strength, stood up, poured herself another bowl, and drank it, showing a strong will to survive.
Soon, everyone's stomachaches subsided, and they regained their energy. Even Xu Bowen, whose condition was the most serious, gradually recovered. After vomiting everything out of his stomach, he was no longer in serious trouble.
He Shujuan forced a weak smile: "Lin Ye's wife, thank you so much this time. If it weren't for you, our family would be finished."
"It's nothing. You guys probably had mushroom poisoning. Eating too much can indeed be life-threatening. If you had been a quarter of an hour later, Wenwen's condition would have been much worse," Lu Wanqing said.
Xu Bowen shrank into Li Miaolian's arms, trembling. "Mom, I'm only six years old. I haven't experienced anything yet. I don't want to die."
"You won't die, you won't die. Aunt Wanqing has already detoxified us," Li Miaolian quickly reassured her.
Normally, Xu Bowen speaks and acts like a little adult. Even when he sent her to sleep in the woodshed, he insisted on following her, saying, "If my mother suffers while I enjoy myself, wouldn't that be extremely unfilial?" This time, however, he was genuinely afraid.
"Thank you, Aunt Wanqing. I will definitely repay you in the future," Xu Bowen said gratefully.
Lu Wanqing nodded, knowing that saying thank you would make the rescue worthwhile.
Just as they were about to leave, He Shujuan took out a handkerchief and unfolded it layer by layer, saying, "Lin Ye's wife, you saved us, we should thank you."
But the handkerchief was unfolded layer by layer, and then another layer appeared, yet the banknotes were nowhere to be seen.
Lu Wanqing found it amusing, her eyes darting around before settling on the stone mill in the courtyard. "If you truly want to express your gratitude, then give me that stone mill."
"Huh?" That stone mill was passed down from our ancestors, but it was made by polishing a single stone and wasn't worth much money.
Moreover, these days, people only grind glutinous rice flour to make tangyuan (sweet rice balls) during the Lantern Festival; it's not used at other times and is not practical at all.
However, since she asked, I'll give it to her.
“I can give it to you, but this millstone is very heavy, and I’m afraid you won’t be able to move it,” He Shujuan said worriedly.
Lin Ye walked over, picked it up, and carried it on his shoulder, saying, "It's not heavy, then we won't stand on ceremony and will take it."
Xu Erlai cast an admiring glance at Lin Ye; he couldn't match the strength of ten of him!
Lin Ye carried the millstone in one hand and held Lu Wanqing's hand with the other, happily returning home.
After they left, He Shujuan grabbed a bowl and smashed it at Zhou Ling.
Xu Erlai also stepped forward and slapped her.
"Zhou Ling, you filthy bitch, you know mushrooms are poisonous, yet you still brought them back!" Xu Erlai said angrily.
Zhou Ling tried to defend herself, saying, "I was passing by the back mountain when I saw mushrooms, so I just picked a few. I never thought about eating them. Who knew you would make soup with them!"
"I didn't know the mushrooms were poisonous. Erlai gave them to me and told me to stew them." Seeing He Shujuan glancing at her, Li Miaolian quickly distanced herself from the situation.
Xu Erlai was also wronged. He saw that Zhou Ling was covered in dirt and assumed that she got it while picking mushrooms. Mushrooms that were picked with such effort must be for eating!
The group argued back and forth, each trying to shirk their responsibility, and a noisy argument ensued.
Finally, Xu Jianzhong, the head of the household, spoke up, "Stop arguing, everyone! What's so glorious about this? I believe Zhou Ling wouldn't be foolish enough to feed everyone poisonous mushrooms. Didn't she get poisoned herself? Let's just consider this a coincidence!"
Zhou Ling breathed a sigh of relief at her father-in-law's words.
He Shujuan, however, had no intention of letting her off so easily, and insisted on assigning her the task of washing clothes, saying, "I see you have so much energy, you should help with more housework!"
Li Miaolian smiled; she and her son had almost lost their lives, but at least they had gained something in return.
Back home, Lu Wanqing didn't ask about the mushroom poisoning incident at the Xu family's house in detail, but she felt a little uneasy, as if Zhou Ling was involved and that the matter was not over yet.
But she didn't know what else might happen, so she could only tell Lin Ye to keep an eye on Zhou Ling and to be careful about what she ate recently.
She never expected that the next day at noon, it wasn't a person who was affected, but the ox that Lin Ye had borrowed.
