Chapter 0 Extra 3 Liu Ting goes to Northeast China
After watching her three sons leave on trains at the train station, Liu Ting returned to her parents' home in a daze. Her heart was empty, and she couldn't understand why all the sons she had raised behaved like this.
Wasn't she supposed to have given birth to them? Or was it because she owed them something in her past life, and they came to collect the debt in this life?
The little girl suggested she go to Northeast China, and she was tempted. Leaving, finding her old man, was the only wish that had kept her alive until now. She wanted to see if her husband was really still alive, if he was truly well.
He left so suddenly, with nothing left. How was he supposed to survive there? Living in a cowshed? What kind of life would that be? You can imagine.
There was nothing for her in this house. Liu Ting's clothes were already tattered. She went into the house and found two sets of clothes belonging to her eldest daughter-in-law to put on, but they were empty.
Liu Ting folded up her tattered clothes and prepared to take them to the Northeast. Life was hard there, and she could find some rags to mend them, so she could last for another two years.
While folding clothes, Liu Ting felt a thick, hard lump. She reached in and pulled out a large stack of banknotes. Liu Ting burst into tears.
This must have been given by that child, that child... Liu Ting sighed. She was still a child. She hoped they would have the chance to meet again in the future. If she could live to see the light of day, she would definitely repay her.
The train was quiet; no one paid any attention to the skinny, sallow-faced old lady in ill-fitting clothes. After changing trains, Liu Ting arrived safely.
Carrying a small bag, Liu Ting looked at the white snow with confusion after leaving the station. Where should she go to find the old man?
Tang Jianye started preparing after receiving Tang Yue's call. He secretly admired how amazing Yueyue was. She had actually found Mr. Ke's spouse and even brought him to Northeast China. He was quite impressed.
He stood outside the train station for a long time. Everyone who had gotten off the train had left, but he still didn't see the old lady. Tang Jianye was a little panicked. Was something wrong?
He saw the conductor had already started to clear the train and was about to close the doors, so he immediately went over and asked, "Hello, comrade, has everyone left?"
The conductor looked at him and said, "Everyone has left a long time ago. We've checked the train and there's no one left."
"How is that possible?"
The conductor looked at him angrily. If he weren't in his military uniform, he would have definitely argued with him. "Go out and look for him quickly. He must have left."
Tang Jianye didn't delay any longer and hurried out. As soon as he left the train station, he saw an old lady in ill-fitting clothes standing in the cold wind. Tang Jianye ran over and asked, "Hello, are you Grandma Liu Ting?"
Liu Ting's eyes gradually brightened as she saw the young man in green military uniform. "Hello, I am. Who are you?"
Tang Jianye smiled, revealing his large white teeth. "Hello, Grandma Liu, I'm Tang Jianye. Xiao Yueyue asked me to come pick you up."
"Oh, yes, Xiao Yueyue mentioned you to me. Thank you for your help, young man."
"Hey, what's the trouble? Grandma, please don't be polite with me. The car is parked in front. Can I help you get your things?"
Liu Ting shook her head. "No, it's just a small bag. I can handle it myself."
"Okay! Let's go then."
After getting in the car, "Grandma Liu, you can rest for a while. It will take two hours to get there."
Liu Ting was very happy. She asked tentatively, "Young man, have you met my old man?"
Tang Jianye nodded as he drove, "Of course I have seen it."
"So, how is he?" Liu Ting was anxious, clinging to the backrest of the back seat and staring at Tang Jianye's back. Tang Jianye looked straight ahead and replied, "Don't worry, Grandma Liu, Mr. Ke is fine.
But this is all thanks to Xiao Yueyue."
Tang Jianye knew that the old lady wanted to know about Mr. Ke’s situation, but he still had to remind them of what Tang Yue had done for them.
"I still remember the first time I went to the cowshed. Mr. Ke had a broken leg and was sitting on a wooden bed covered with two layers of rags, unable to get up. Mr. Xu, who lived with Mr. Ke, had a sprained waist and was also unable to move.
It was the coldest time of year, and the Lunar New Year was just around the corner. The two elderly people lived in a drafty cowshed, where the temperature inside was almost the same as outside. If Xiao Yueyue and I hadn't gone there that night, Elder Ke and Elder Xu would have been waiting to die.
Liu Ting couldn't help crying, covering her mouth with one hand. She knew it would be difficult for the old man, but she didn't expect it to be so difficult.
After calming down, Liu Ting continued to ask, "So what happened next? What happened next?"
Tang Jianye smiled, "The people who live next door to them are the parents of Xiao Yueyue's friend. You'll meet them when you go over there later. Their name is Lai Xiang. Lai Xiang signed up to come here to work in the countryside to take care of her parents."
Xiao Yueyue came to the Northeast for work and happened to know that Lai Xiang was here, so she asked me to take her over to see her. As a result, we all know each other, right?
"Xiao Yueyue brought a lot of things over and covered both houses with thick oilcloth. She also picked up a lot of firewood. There's enough rice, flour, grain and oil to eat. Now, Mr. Ke and Mr. Xu, haha, have both put on a lot of weight.
Don't worry, Xiao Yueyue has asked the team leader to look after them, and they are living a good life now. They are still hibernating and don't have to do anything. The two old men are living a very comfortable life.
Liu Ting's eyes and eyebrows were full of smiles, and the corners of her mouth kept turning up. She didn't stop until she reached the destination.
When Tang Jianye came here again, the villagers were no strangers. Even in the dead of winter, no children were out chasing cars. Liu Ting came quietly.
It was already late when we arrived. It gets dark early in the Northeast, and it was pitch black outside. Lai Xiang had just finished cooking some dumplings and was about to take them to the cowshed when she saw a car pull up at her door.
She hurried out and saw Tang Jianye getting out of the car, "Tang Jianye, why are you here so late?"
Lai Xiang was surprised to see an old lady get out of the back seat. She walked over to her. Tang Jianye closed the car door and helped Liu Ting up. "It's too cold outside. Let's go inside and talk."
"Oh!" Lai Xiang took two quick steps forward to open the door. As soon as she entered the room, the heat hit her face, and Liu Ting felt her whole body relax. This room was too warm.
Lai Xiang looked at Liu Ting with her big, watery eyes, and Liu Ting smiled. "You are Lai Xiang, right? I heard Xiao Yueyue talk about you."
Lai Xiang was happy, "Oh, you know Xiao Yueyue? That's great. Come on, come inside and sit down."
Liu Ting calmly surveyed the house. It wasn't small, with three rooms in total. The middle room offered an entrance and exit, plus a stove. It was a typical Northeastern house. She sat on the heated kang, which had a mattress at the head. "Come up and warm yourself up. I'll bring you some dumplings."
Lai Xiang turned around and came out, and Tang Jianye immediately followed.
