Chapter 390: Cowshed Interrogation

Chapter 390: Cowshed Interrogation

390

Without paying any attention to the surprised people in the room, Tang Yue and Tang Jianye pushed the door open and strode towards the hidden room at the deepest part of the cowshed. Although it was only a few steps away, both of their steps were heavy.

The howling north wind was like the howling of ghosts and wolves, shaking the dilapidated cowshed wantonly, as if it was whimpering for the evil secret that was about to be revealed.

Tang Yue's eyes were like cold stars in the cold night, cold and sharp. Sometimes she didn't understand why they had to serve as dogs for other people when they were all Chinese.

As soon as she reached the door, Tang Yue reached out without hesitation to push the shaky-looking wooden door.

"Who?" a man's wary, gruff voice rang out from behind the door. Tang Yue remained silent. With a slight push, the thick wooden door the man was holding was pushed open by Tang Yue from the outside.

As soon as the door opened, the man's alert face was revealed. Zheng Qian was extremely surprised. He knew that the people in the two cow sheds outside were very busy today, but they were far away from the village. As long as he and his wife didn't say anything, no one would know what happened here.

But what was wrong with these people? He didn't bother them, but they came looking for him? Moreover, without any prelude, they just came up and kicked the door.

In Zheng Qian's opinion, this door must have been kicked open by the man in military uniform in front of him, otherwise how could such a solid wooden door be opened so easily?

A flash of panic flashed across his eyes, but in the blink of an eye, he pretended to be calm.

Tang Yue didn't want to play along with such a person at all. With a flick of her finger, two prepared truth serum pills shot into the mouths of Zheng Qian and the woman in the room like arrows from a bow, with perfect accuracy.

The two of them had no time to be alert before the pill slid down their throats and dissolved, leaving no trace.

The two men only had time to think of the word "vomit" before their consciousness became blurred. After that, their eyes became dull, like sculptures.

"Who are you? Why are you in the cowshed?" Tang Yue asked coldly.

You can't tell from the outside, but once you walk into the house, you'll understand the difference.

The room was warm and cozy. Although the space was small, it had everything you could need. Half of the room was occupied by a kang (a heated kang), and there was a small fire wall, which was obviously made of thick mud bricks.

The furnishings in the house didn't look like those of someone living in a cowshed, and they were even much richer than the homes of the villagers here. Of course, this was still on the surface.

At a glance, the two cow sheds that Tang Yue and the others had just entered and this place were clearly two different worlds.

Zheng Qian's eyes were blank and dull, completely devoid of the fierceness he had just shown. After Tang Yue finished asking, he couldn't help but answer, "My name is Zheng Qian, she is Tan Aihua, and we are spies. We specialize in providing intelligence about China to the Russians."

Hearing this, Tang Jianye's heart trembled violently, a surge of rage rising in his heart. He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force, his eyes burning with rage. At the same time, his eyes narrowed slightly, as if he was about to crush the man in front of him to death in the next second.

Tang Jianye knew that Xiao Yueyue wouldn't come here for no reason. His previous conversation with Mr. Ke and Mr. Xu was also questionable. At the time, he thought they were just two weirdos, but he didn't expect them to be spies.

Tang Yue narrowed her eyes slightly and continued to ask, "How exactly did you pass on the information? Who are your accomplices? Tell me everything clearly!"

Zheng Qian's voice was mechanical and numb, "We cooperate with domestic tomb-robbing gangs. They secretly transport the precious cultural relics they have excavated and some important Chinese information obtained through other channels to the cowshed through the upper line.

We will then hide these things in the nearby mountains. Once we have agreed on a time to meet up with the Russians, we will ship them out.”

"Where on the mountain?"

"The location is different each time. We would take the opportunity of chopping wood to find those extremely hidden and inconspicuous places in the mountains. We would find the location in advance, dig it up, slowly carry the things up, and then bury it deep."

"Do you know who all the members of the tomb-robbing gang are? Who is your superior? How do you usually contact each other?" Tang Yue's voice was already flat.

Zheng Qian spoke in a flat, straightforward voice, his emotions completely absent. He was like a talking machine. "I don't know how many people there are; we haven't met them. We're all in single contact. They'll deliver the items to the bullpen, tell us the approximate delivery time, and then we'll just wait for the Russians to come find us."

"Tell me your contact information."

Zheng Qian slowly began to explain. He revealed the names and identities of his superiors, as well as their secret contact methods. The Russians always used codewords, and the people who came were almost always different. It seemed like there were quite a few people involved in these things.

"Is there anyone else in the village who is your accomplice?"

Zheng Qian shook his head. "No one in the Yiwa Production Brigade. But the trucks that come here to deliver things never unload all the stuff. I think there must be someone in the nearby village who is in contact with them, but we don't know who it is."

Zheng Qian's words made the two realize that in this vast farm, there was a huge and intricate spy network hidden.

"Any deals to be completed soon?"

"Yes, but they are three days late for the final handover. We don't know why."

"Why do you want to be spies?" Tang Jianye finally couldn't hold back and asked the question he wanted to ask them the most.

Tan Aihua spoke slowly, his voice full of numbness: "For money, for status. The Russians are generous and the money they give us is enough for us to have no worries about food and clothing for the rest of our lives and enjoy wealth and glory.

Furthermore, China has no future at all. Only by following them can it have a bright future."

Tang Yue sneered, "Were you instigated to defect, or have you been spies since the previous generation?" These two situations would lead to completely different results.

"We were turned against the team in the laboratory..." Then Tang Yue and Tang Jianye listened to a long story, mixed with a little happiness that the two of them still had even though they were unconscious.

Tang Jianye always carried a pen and notebook with him, and he wrote down every word of their crimes. It could be said that the two men deserved to be shot a hundred times for what they had done to endanger China.

The most terrifying thing was that their coming to the bullpen was a covert operation, just to make their work more convenient. Tang Yue and Tang Jianye felt a chill run down their spines, wondering how many such cases there were in the entire country of China.

"Tang Jianye, go back to the army now and report this to the leadership. I feel like those people are coming soon. I have to keep an eye on them from here."

Tang Jianye understood Tang Yue's intentions and wasn't worried about her safety. Without a second thought, he went straight to Lai Xiang's house and drove back to the unit. One could imagine the reaction of the entire unit after Tang Jianye reported the incident.

After Tang Jianye left, Tang Yue restored the room to its original state and let the two continue to sleep on the kang. She gave them the antidote and thoughtfully erased their memories.

After taking the truth serum, they lose their memories, but they still have a feeling. Tang Yue erased all their memories of coming to the bullpen tonight. She had a feeling that those people might come tonight.

If it's lively next door tonight, the two of them might cancel their plans for tonight.

Tang Yue did not tell Lai Xiang and the others about the situation here. She just told them to rest quickly and not to go out no matter what happened outside.

Watching Lai Xiang trudging home, Tang Yue hadn't forgotten that Lai Xiang didn't have much firewood. She already knew where Zheng Qian and the others had hidden their belongings, so she decided to go up the mountain to check it out and get Lai Xiang some firewood for the winter.

Tang Yue didn't step on the snow, but walked directly in the sky. She walked deeper and watched the dry tree directly into the space. Pin and several others happily helped to split the dead wood.

After confirming that the location they mentioned had not been moved, Tang Yue returned to Lai Xiang's house. She found a large, snow-free open space in the yard and moved the two large piles of firewood that had been stacked there.

She was still thinking about what to cover the firewood with when she suddenly noticed some movement in the cowshed.

Tang Yue's lips curled slightly, "Here I come."
