Chapter 67 Who’s coming?

Chapter 67 Who’s coming?

67

Village chief Li was in a bad mood at the moment, but he was a little scared.

If his second sister-in-law hadn't woken up just now, would he have owed his second brother even more in this life?

If he hadn't canceled Zhuzi's full marks just now, would none of this have happened?

His second sister-in-law wouldn't be so angry that she would pout. But then he thought about Tang Shengkai's family. Why should they pay for Zhuzi's mistakes?

Zhuzi has been spoiled by his mother since he was a child. If this continues, who knows what he will grow up to be.

Village chief Li thought a lot and looked unhappy. After explaining things, he wanted to go home.

Every time he felt exhausted, it seemed to be caused by the pillar.

He sighed and took a step to walk out, then he heard Tang Yue's soft voice.

"Grandpa Village Chief, when can we build an additional house?"

A single stone stirred up a thousand waves. Sister Miao and Sister Ding looked at Tang Yue in shock. Building an extension to the house? That was not something that ordinary people could afford.

But looking at what this family is wearing, it seems that building a house is a natural thing for them.

Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui's faces changed drastically. His daughter didn't seem to understand the meaning of not showing off one's wealth. How could she bring up this matter right after arriving?

Lin Cuicui hurriedly stopped Tang Yue from continuing and explained to the village chief.

"Uncle Li, please don't be offended. Children don't understand anything. They probably thought the houses here weren't big enough for us in the Northeast, so they asked. Don't mind me."

Tang Shengkai agreed, "Yes, yes. Uncle Li, don't worry, we can just use a curtain to separate the room. You should go back and get some rest."

Tang Yue looked at her parents, understood what they meant, and didn't say anything else.

It was too dark to work. When Mrs. Miao and Mrs. Ding saw the village chief leave, they put their baskets in front of Lin Cuicui.

Sister Miao spoke first, "Our homes are not far from each other."

He pointed in the direction of their home, which was not far in front of them, about 100 meters away.

"Hey! That's my home.

I know you will be coming over in the next two days. There is not much good food at home in the countryside. The vegetables in the field are growing well, so I picked a few bunches for you.

You guys eat them first, and if there’s nothing left at home, go to my sister-in-law’s house and get some.”

"This, this is embarrassing." Sister Miao pushed the basket forward again, and Lin Cuicui accepted it embarrassedly. "Thank you, Sister Miao."

Lin Cuicui felt a little guilty, but there was really nothing to eat at home, so she accepted it with a shameless face.

Mrs. Ding also had a smile on her face and pushed her basket forward.

"I won't say anything more. Our house is not far from here, so we'll be neighbors from now on.

If you need any help, just come and call my sister-in-law. She may not have much ability, but she is very strong.

I should be able to do some work."

Lin Cuicui smiled and said, "Look at what my sister-in-law said. We are really grateful from the bottom of our hearts that the two sisters-in-law can come to help."

I just came here and I really don't have anything to treat you two sisters-in-law. After a few days when we are settled, you two sisters-in-law must come over and have a meal."

"Okay, okay. I'll come over to help after I finish work tomorrow."

Mrs. Ding followed suit, "Yes. I'll come over after work is done tomorrow."

Seeing the two were about to leave, Lin Cuicui hurried to a bundle, reached in and grabbed two handfuls of White Rabbit milk candies, turned around and handed them to her two sisters-in-law.

"Sister-in-law, we just came here and didn't bring anything good. Take two pieces of candy back to sweeten the child's mouth."

The two sisters-in-law declined, but when they saw that they couldn't refuse anymore, they accepted it.

After seeing them off, Li Qingyang placed the straw under the eaves and left with his wife. Lu Anjie had been standing outside the door waiting for Ding Lingzi, but he didn't come in.

After everyone left, Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui looked at each other, breathed a sigh of relief, and smiles appeared on their faces again.

After a few moments, Lin Cuicui became worried again, "Third brother, that pillar doesn't look like someone you can easily mess with."

Tang Shengkai was also worried, but when he looked down at Tang Yue who was squatting on the side pulling weeds, a smile appeared on his face again.

He patted Lin Cuicui's shoulder and stared at Tang Yue with a meaningful look.

"It's okay, as long as our daughter is here, you can all rest assured."

Old Li had the same worry just now, but after hearing what Tang Shengkai said, he felt that his worry was unnecessary.

The three Tangbei brothers looked at their sister, then at their parents and grandfather. They were proud of their sister, but at the same time, they felt a bit uncomfortable. They had always relied on their sister for protection.

Everyone entered the house. There were two beds on both sides of the room that looked very crudely made. The bed boards were uneven and had many barbs on them.

They noticed this during the day.

Tang Shengkai went out and came back with a large bundle of straw and threw himself on the bed. Old Li had already come in carrying two bags filled with brand new bedding.

They bought the quilt today in the border town. At the time, Old Li thought it was too much money, but now he thinks the third brother was quite wise. Now there are not enough beds, so we have to sleep on the floor.

The pot was at the bottom of the backpack, and they hadn't brought any dishes or chopsticks. It wouldn't be convenient to borrow from someone else's house, so they simply built a rack in the yard.

The team leader brought over half a bag of corn and half a bag of rice.

The corn hadn't cracked yet, so it wouldn't be cooked in time. They cooked half a pot of porridge, added a lot of vegetables, and after eating, they began to discuss their plans for the next few days.

There are only two beds in the house, which is really not enough for all these people.

"Tomorrow I'll ask Brother Li if they have any wooden planks left at home so we can order two more beds. We only have two beds at home, which is definitely not enough."

Lin Cuicui nodded, and Old Li looked at the location of the yard.

"When I have some free time in a few days, I'll build another room next door. Then I'll build a shed over there to cook. It will be enough for us to live in."

Tang Shengkai listened to Old Li's plan and thought it was feasible.

"Okay, I'll listen to Dad. Let's fix the roofs of these two houses in the next two days. If we have enough time, Dad and I will build the walls together."

Old Li shook his head. "No need. The army has given you three days off. Once you've cleaned up the roof, you can get ready to go to the army."

The weather is warm here, so I'll mix the mud and make some bricks. I'll build the house after the bricks are dry, there's no rush. I'll nail the bed down first and squeeze in for a few days."

Tang Shengkai thought it was okay, and for the next three days, the Tang family was busy, and the thatched hut soon looked like a home. The weeds in the yard were cleared away.

Every night, the two sisters-in-law and their spouses came to help. Lin Cuicui also asked Sister Miao to find someone to buy them eight sets of bowls, chopsticks, and plates.

There were a few children hanging around outside his house every day. Tang Yue knew some of them were from Aunt Miao and Aunt Ding's families. But they didn't come in. The four Tang Bei siblings had been busy with the adults at home these days and didn't go out either.

The children haven't met each other yet.

On the left side of the yard, vegetables adapted to the area have been planted. The seeds were given by Sister Miao and Sister Ding. Lin Cuicui also gave them two handfuls of White Rabbit candies each.

Both sisters-in-law were delighted. This toffee was a precious treasure, something they normally wouldn't be willing to buy. This Miss Lin was really generous.

Tang Shengkai asked Li Qingyang to borrow some wood planks from the village. He also borrowed a few tools and smoothed the planks of the two beds at home. He then nailed two more beds together himself.

Old Li said that when the new house was built, he would still build a kang for himself. After all, he had slept on it all his life and was not used to sleeping on a bed. Tang Shengkai did not object.

A large shed was built two meters under the eaves on the right side of the yard, and the stove was placed there.

Old Li said he'd turn the shed into a house when he had time. He built a chicken coop near the gate. Sister Miao said she'd see if there were any chicks to trade when she went to market in a few days.

After three busy days, the house finally felt like home. He had planned to invite his two sisters-in-law and their families over for lunch. That afternoon, Tang Shengkai was going to report to the army.

Before Lin Cuicui went out to borrow vegetables from her two sisters-in-law, she saw a jeep driving towards her house in the distance.

Lin Cuicui didn't know whether to leave or stay. After weighing the pros and cons, she turned around and went home. As soon as she entered the yard, she shouted, "Third brother, come out quickly. Someone from the army might be here to pick you up."

After hearing this, Tang Shengkai hurried out to greet him.

Tang Shengkai was puzzled. Captain Chang hadn't said he'd come to pick him up that day. Besides, he was just a soldier, so he shouldn't have received such treatment. Who could this be?
