Chapter 108 Empress Xiaoyi of the Kangxi Emperor (End)

"It's my fault. I've been thinking, if we could go back to before this happened, would you still be as jealous and resentful as before, getting angry if I even glance at someone else?!" Kangxi said, his eyes filled with nostalgia.

"...Your Majesty, you don't need that!" Sherry said earnestly. If that were the case, she would have been dead long ago!

"How do you know I don't need it?" Kangxi asked, looking indignant.

"Your Majesty, you are first and foremost the emperor, then the husband of others, the pillar of all my sisters, and only lastly my cousin!" Shirley said somewhat listlessly.

Emperor Kangxi spent half his life seducing beautiful young women, all the while still managing to express his deepest feelings to them. Wasn't that exhausting?!

“Cousin, didn’t you always say when you were little that you wanted to be your cousin’s wife?” Kangxi said hurriedly, as if he had just remembered something.

"Your Majesty, you are tired!" Xue Li gave him a barely perceptible glance.

"All you do now is sneer at me and roll your eyes at me. Don't think I don't know!" Kangxi said angrily, like a child.

"Mmm-hmm!" Sherry nodded vigorously, "You know what you're doing!"

"You only behave properly when you're under me!" Kangxi said, grabbing her hand with a resentful expression.

Sherry looked at him with a complicated expression, and she held back from blurting out, "I feel much better climbing the tree with the I Ching!"

"Your Majesty seems to be in good spirits, please take your medicine!" Shirley took the medicine from her hand, silently praying, "My lord, please take your medicine."

Kangxi obediently drank the medicine and looked at her expectantly.

It was as if they had just remembered that she had traveled a long way, so they let her go and allowed her to rest.

Sherry went back to rest for two days, and the imperial physician took her pulse and told her to take good care of herself.

Emperor Kangxi immediately kept Xue Li in the Qianqing Palace to keep him company: "The Chengqian Palace needs a good renovation. Yue'er, don't rush, keep me company!"

Sherry stayed with Kangxi every day, and she became so thin from hunger!

The white rabbit had shrunk considerably, but there were people all around, and she didn't want to take any risks!

Kangxi thought that Xue Li had lost weight because she was worried about him, and he was in good spirits for several days.

Even when Sherry rolled her eyes at him, he just smiled.

When I tried to reminisce about the past with Shirley, she just let it go in one ear and out the other. She was thinking, "Why don't I try to overcome this tribulation?"

Let's see how much her soul has been tempered.

Or perhaps her cultivation technique allows her to draw lightning into her body?

Sherry fell into deep thought, while Kangxi looked at her with affection.

When Shirley came to her senses, she saw Kangxi's eyes and shivered!

Emperor Kangxi thought she was unwell and summoned the imperial physician!

The following day, imperial edicts were issued appointing her as empress and passing the throne to her!

"I, the Emperor, believe that virtue aligns with imperial grace, and the royal influence originates from the palace. Your virtuous deeds will be recorded in history, and your exemplary conduct will serve as a model for the nation. Upholding these virtuous principles, you receive blessings and are hereby granted a noble title and rightful position. Therefore, I hereby appoint you, Imperial Noble Consort Tongjia, of noble lineage, auspiciously endowed with family ties, diligent and frugal in your service, and devoted to filial piety within the palace. Your benevolence is like that of a locust tree, nurturing children with equal kindness; your respect is like that of a pheasant, embodying the model of virtue and prudence. Now, I hereby bestow upon you the imperial seal and edict, establishing you as Empress. May you reverently accept this auspicious mandate, carefully preserve your health, and spread your influence throughout the land, further ensuring the continuation of your virtuous legacy. May your honor and glory shine upon the imperial seal and edict, and may you forever enjoy abundant blessings and prosperity. Respectfully Your Majesty."

December 17th, 61st year of Kangxi's reign

[By the mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees:]

I have inherited the legacy of my ancestors, ruling over the four seas and governing all regions. I have worked diligently day and night without ever slacking off. Now, I am old and frail, and I fear I can no longer govern the country. Therefore, I wish to abdicate in favor of a wise and virtuous descendant, so that he may inherit the weight of the ancestral temple and secure the foundation of the nation.

The twelfth prince, Yinyi, is exceptionally intelligent, virtuous, and talented, and closely resembles me. He is learned and well-versed in current affairs. Observing his words and deeds, I find him to be an outstanding member of the royal bloodline, capable of shouldering great responsibilities.

Now, in accordance with the established laws of our ancestors, I hereby pass the throne to my twelfth son, Yinyi, to assume the imperial throne and inherit the great lineage. My sons and grandsons should work together to assist the new emperor and jointly achieve this great undertaking.

My dying wish shall be obeyed by all my subjects. So be it!

December 17th, 61st year of Kangxi's reign

Sherry was a little surprised, but not much; Kangxi, on the contrary, was very happy!

"Cousin, now, you are my true wife!"

Sherry curved her lips into a smile and leaned lazily against the tatami.

"Cousin, do you still love me?" Kangxi asked impatiently.

"Don't you know what's going on?!" Sherry said calmly.

"I don't believe it!" Kangxi grabbed her arm, his gaze intense.

"Okay, okay, you're right!" Sherry was sleepy.

"Answer me!" Kangxi said, his face full of resentment.

"If I said I love you, would you believe me?" Sherry smiled excessively, but looked at his unwilling expression with a hint of disinterest.

"..." Kangxi's lips trembled slightly, tears streaming down his face unconsciously. "All these years, you've harbored such resentment towards me?"

"No, that wouldn't be possible, it's too tiring! Just like my cousin, I should like more people! Otherwise, I would have died before my cousin!" Sherry suddenly wanted to provoke him.

Emperor Kangxi glared at him, "Yue'er, don't say things I don't want to hear!"

"Yeah, I was just teasing you!" Shirley smiled, her face beaming.

Emperors are often suspicious, but Kangxi still sent people to investigate!

Two days later, Kangxi received news from Jiangnan.

The person who inquired about the information was Zhou Yi's nephew, and Zhou Yi asked Xue Li before relaying the message back.

"The Empress and her bodyguard Zhou Yi have a daughter and have been in love and companionship for decades!"

Sherry thought to herself that she couldn't let it affect the new emperor, after all, who knew if he had any hidden agents!

Kangxi was furious. He grabbed Xue Li's sleeve and watched her smile sweetly and gently as she mentioned Zhou Yi.

He died instantly!

On the 20th day of the 12th month of the 61st year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign (1722), the Kangxi Emperor passed away!

Yin Yi, along with his entourage and Hong Hao, got busy!

A smooth handover, and the ascension to the throne!

Yin Yi has given his brothers important positions!

Yinzhen was unwilling but had no choice, so he diligently got busy.
