Chapter 21: Feeding Water

Cheng Bing truly hadn't expected that after experiencing a series of chaotic events involving turning over corpses and dismembering bones, this classmate would still be thinking about studying. He widened his eyes slightly, "The exam for, No. 1 High School?"

Fang Yuenian's activities were restricted, so she couldn't nod. She could only blink her eyes and say, "Yes."

Cheng Bing: "You..."

Before he could finish speaking, Cheng Junjun walked in through the door.

Upon seeing Cheng Junjun, Fang Yuenian immediately greeted her, "Sister Jun."

Cheng Bing stood up. "Sister."

Cheng Junjun asked Fang Yue Nian, "How are you?"

"I'm fine," Fang Yuenian said. "Um, Sister Jun, are you going back to school?"

Cheng Junjun nodded: "Take good care of yourself, I'm leaving now."

Fang Yuenian said as if nothing had happened, "Okay, be careful on the road."

After she left, Fang Yuenian felt a little thirsty and licked her lips: "I want to drink some water."

Cheng Bing rummaged through the bedside table and found an old, dusty kettle at the very back. She took it out and said, "I'll go get it."

Fang Yuenian: "Hey, hey, forget it, I won't drink it."

"What's wrong?"

Fang Yuenian blinked. "Can you hear anything? I can't hear a sound at all. Go and see where they're talking."

Cheng Bing still took the water bottle and went out.

The ward was at the end of the corridor, next to the stairs. He looked around after leaving the room and found that neither of the two families were in the corridor. However, a few wandering patients glanced at him several times and then huddled together to talk quietly. This was understandable, as the two families had been arguing all the way to the hospital. Before Fang Yuenian woke up, everyone in the ward on the entire floor who could get out of bed had been woken up to watch the spectacle.

Cheng Bing was carrying a kettle when a nurse happened to pass by, so he asked, "Excuse me, where can I get hot water?"

The nurse, who looked no younger than forty, smiled broadly when the handsome young man called her "sister." "Oh, there isn't one on this floor. The water room is downstairs. Just go down the stairs and turn right."

"Thank you, sister," Cheng Bing said.

The nurse chuckled twice: "You're welcome, you're welcome. Have it as a snack, but don't burn yourself. Rinse the kettle before filling it with water."

"Okay," Cheng Bing replied.

After going downstairs, I turned right and sure enough, there was a water room. The water room looked quite old; it was a bit steamy, and the room was filled with water vapor. There was also a lot of water on the floor, and dirty footprints were left all the way.

Cheng Bing rinsed the dust off the outside of the kettle in the sink next to him, then rinsed the inner liner twice with tap water, and then rinsed it again with hot water. Seeing that it was almost clean, he carefully filled the kettle with boiling water. After finishing, he went upstairs, but then remembered he didn't have a cup, so he went to the nurses' station to get a disposable paper cup before returning to his ward.

This is a three-person ward. Fang Yuenian is on the outermost side closest to the door, which shouldn't be bothering the other two. However, one of the patients is a middle-aged man in his fifties or sixties who looks remarkably healthy and doesn't seem to have any illness that requires hospitalization. He also seems to be quite free and strolls over to chat with Fang Yuenian.

"Goodness, I was startled. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought something was wrong, so many people rushing in all at once," he said with a grin, holding a teacup. "Young man, your entourage is quite frightening."

Fang Yuenian gave a dry laugh, and Cheng Bing came in, also silently pouring water.

The uncle glanced at them and laughed, "You two are brothers? Which one is older? You're both so tall and imposing, your parents are so lucky!"

Fang Yuenian ignored him and looked at Cheng Bing, who said, "I didn't see it."

The uncle hurriedly said, "What are you looking at? Your family? I saw them, they were downstairs just now, quite a few people, but they're not here now. Go look out the window."

Cheng Bing walked to the window of the ward, looked down, and shook her head, saying, "Nobody's here."

"Then you've probably gone downstairs. There's a small area there where people discuss things," the uncle said confidently. "But what's there to discuss here? Nothing's wrong, is it? It's normal for kids to fall and fight. Why argue about who's right and who's wrong?"

Fang Yuenian said, "Yes, that's right."

The water was too hot to drink, so the two of them just waited, watching the water drip down the IV drip. It was agonizing. Cheng Bing even got anxious and kept blowing on the water. It finally cooled down a little, and Fang Yuenian had just moved when she was immediately stopped. Cheng Bing said, "Don't move, lie down."

Fortunately, it was a disposable paper cup. Cheng Bing pinched it to make a narrow, pointed tip, carefully handed it to Fang Yuenian's lips, and slowly poured it into the cup to feed him.

The middle-aged man watching looked at the two children with great curiosity, as if he had discovered something extraordinary. He kept praising them to his fellow patients: "These two brothers are great, unlike my two defective children who get up every day to argue and fight."

His fellow patients weren't as energetic as him; they just chimed in, saying, "It's normal to fight when you're a kid; you'll grow out of it when you're older and more sensible."

Fang Yue Nian was drinking water and couldn't speak, but he was listening intently. He was overjoyed, and all his other thoughts faded away.

So when Wang Jing and her family returned to the ward, this is what they saw:

Fang Yuenian obediently let Cheng Bing support her neck as she drank water sip by sip. Cheng Bing, on the other hand, looked very serious, as if she were facing some particularly important task and dared not slack off at all.
