Chapter 70: What's wrong with her?

Back in the dorm that evening, after washing up, Fang Yuenian put on her headphones and sat down at her small desk by her bed to do practice problems.

The phone has limited functions, but it can listen to FM radio. He is used to listening to music channels while doing his homework, and sometimes he doesn't even pay attention to what's ringing in his ears, as long as he can block out external noise.

Meng Xiaoyang was leaning against the wall on his bed reading a book, about a meter away from Fang Yuenian. Everyone else was busy with their own things and didn't chat much.

It wouldn't have been this quiet originally, but everyone had been practicing singing for days on end, and their voices were exhausted, so they went hoarse when they got back to the dorm. Two more people are missing from the dorm this semester because parents came to accompany their children, so now there are only five of us, making it even harder to cause a ruckus.

Fang Yuenian was working out a math problem on a draft paper, but after writing for a long time, he still couldn't solve it, which made him a little impatient.

Cheng Bing's text message arrived at that moment.

"Are you going to sleep?"

It was just past eleven o'clock. Fang Yuenian looked at the three pages of manuscript paper filled with marks and decided to stop here for tonight.

He casually replied, "Getting ready to sleep now." Then he tossed his phone onto the top bunk and started tidying up his desk.

Meng Xiaoyang noticed his movements and asked, "Are you going up?"

Fang Yuenian nodded: "Ah, what's wrong?"

"No," Meng Xiaoyang shook his head, "I'll go to sleep too. By the way, tomorrow is Saturday, I'm planning to go back home."

"So sudden?"

“My uncle told me to go back for dinner,” Meng Xiaoyang said in a low voice. “I think I’ll be back this afternoon.”

"Oh, then be careful." Fang Yuenian said, climbing the ladder onto the bed.

Cheng Bing's second text message has arrived.

"I can apply to change my seat after the midterm exams, it's fine."

Fang Yuenian, who had calmed down, immediately became agitated again upon seeing this, and retorted angrily, "Does that mean you can choose your deskmate just because you get first place? Your homeroom teacher is ridiculous! Does she think you won't be affected? Or is Zhang Qing's opinion more important in comparison?"

He assumed that the homeroom teacher of Class 18 had agreed to Zhang Qing's request, so he forced Cheng Bing to sit with her.

Cheng Bing quickly replied: "My homeroom teacher talked to me and said that Zhang Qing was in a bad mood, and asked me to keep an eye on her before the midterm exams."

Fang Yuenian sensed something was wrong and asked, "What's wrong?"

"I can't explain it clearly, but her parents came to talk to the teacher and said that she might need to take a leave of absence from school."

Fang Yue Nian remained silent for a long time. What, what's going on?

Although I've heard a lot of rumors about Zhang Qing and think she seems a bit stubborn, has it really gotten to the point where she can't complete her studies normally?

He became uneasy and hurriedly pressed the keys: "Okay, but this isn't your fault. You can pay attention, but don't feel guilty."

No, it won't.

"Alright then, you should go to sleep early. What are your plans for tomorrow?"

"Let's eat first after you wake up."

Seeing these words cheered Fang Yuenian up a bit, but then she remembered the questions she hadn't been able to answer earlier, so she said, "Let's study together after dinner. There are some questions I can't figure out."

Okay. Sleep well, goodnight.

"good evening."

The next day, Meng Xiaoyang set off very early, sneaking out before everyone else had even gotten up.

Fang Yuenian continued to indulge herself in sleeping in every Saturday morning. When she was ready to get up after a good night's sleep, she realized it was almost 10 o'clock. She quickly sent a message to Cheng Bing, who replied that she could leave at any time.

They didn't plan to go out for a fancy meal. Since they were going to study together, they decided to eat in the cafeteria. Not many cafeteria stalls were open on weekends, but most of the noodle stalls were open. The two of them went around lunchtime and ordered two servings of fried noodles. They chose a seat in the corner and started eating slowly.

While eating noodles, Cheng Bing suggested, "Let's go out and have fun tomorrow."

Fang Yuenian exclaimed, "Aren't you going to study?"

"We can study this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow night. We can go out during the day tomorrow."

Fang Yuenian immediately wanted to say yes, but hesitated a bit. "It feels like I'm always inviting you out to play, which doesn't seem right. All the other students in your class are always studying, don't you feel any sense of urgency?"

"It's alright," Cheng Bing said calmly. "And you? Did I take up your time?"

Fang Yuenian clicked her tongue. "No, I'm a happy learner."

Cheng Bing looked up and said, "Spring is coming, let's go hiking."

Fang Yuenian laughed, "Okay!"

After finishing their meal, the two decided to go back to their dorm to study. It wasn't common for students to switch classes in their grade, so if they went to study in the classroom, they would have to go to their own classrooms and wouldn't be able to study together.

Fortunately, there are only three people left in Cheng Bing's dormitory now, and the other two are still in the classroom every day, so there is no need to worry about embarrassment. Fang Yuenian simply packed a few exercise books and test papers and went up to the fourth floor.

As expected, none of her roommates were there. Fang Yuenian walked in familiarly and saw Cheng Bing busy on the balcony. She asked, "What are you doing?"

"You sit down first," Cheng Bing instructed him.

"oh."

He sat for a while, then raised his voice and asked, "Isn't it lonely with just the three of you?"

Cheng Bing finally finished her work, shook the water off her hands, walked in, and said, "No, I don't talk much anyway."

Fang Yuenian wrinkled her nose. "That's why you should hang out with me more often."

Cheng Bing said, "Haven't I spent enough time with you already?"

Fang Yuenian laughed too. He hadn't said anything like this to Cheng Bing in a long time. It felt like he was back in junior high. "I heard that the dorms will be rearranged after the students choose their majors in the second year of high school. Maybe we won't be so far apart then. It would be good if we could be on the same floor. I'm on the same floor as the dorm supervisor every day. I don't even dare to talk loudly at night."

Cheng Bing gave him a can of milk and said, "Those two might not live on campus next semester either. I might be the only boy in our class who lives on campus then."

Fang Yuenian turned her head to look at him, frowned and asked, "Won't it be inconvenient? What if something happens in class? And you definitely won't be able to live in a dormitory by yourself anymore. If you have to live with people from other classes again, you'll have to get used to it all over again."

Cheng Bing said, "When the time comes, I'd like to try applying to live in your dorm."

Fang Yuenian was stunned: "Really?!"

"Your roommates have told me several times, don't you genuinely want to invite me?"

"Oh, oh, then it must be genuine," Fang Yuenian nodded hurriedly, "Will it work?"

“Give it a try,” Cheng Bing said. “Maybe it will work.”

After exchanging a few words, the two resumed their studies.

Time flies so fast; before I knew it, an afternoon had passed.

Fang Yuenian was generally satisfied with her afternoon study efficiency, and had almost figured out the few difficult problems. So she stretched, took out her phone, and found a message from Meng Xiaoyang saying that she wouldn't be going back to school today.

“That’s so strange,” he said. “Meng Xiaoyang said he’s not going back to the dorm today.”

Cheng Bing tidied up his scattered books and pens, and casually asked, "Did he go home?"

"Yes, he said his uncle wanted him to come back for dinner." He was a little puzzled, but didn't ask any further questions. He simply replied "received" and then asked Cheng Bing, "What are we having for dinner tonight?"

"What would you like to eat?" Cheng Bing placed a glass of water in front of him. "Have some to drink."

While drinking water, Fang Yuenian thought for a moment and said, "How about we go out to eat and then go back to class?"

“Okay…” Cheng Bing had just agreed when her phone beeped with a text message notification.

Fang Yuenian was nearby, so she handed it to him. Cheng Bing asked, "Who is it?"

"I don't know," Fang Yuenian said without looking at the screen, handing him the phone. "You can see for yourself."

To be honest, ever since that incident involving the phone, Fang Yuenian has kept his distance from Cheng Bing's phone. Although Cheng Bing said he could look at it freely, he preferred to ignore it and resolutely refused to look at it.

Cheng Bing looked at him, smiled slightly, took the phone, glanced at it, and said, "It's Second Sister."

“Sister Jun,” Fang Yuenian’s expression immediately softened, “What’s wrong?”

She said she was going home for the Qingming Festival in a few days and asked me if I was coming back too.

“Let’s go back,” Fang Yuenian said. “Then we can go for a spring outing together.”

Cheng Bing nodded, replied to the text message, and then said, "Let's go, it's getting late."

"Um."
