Chapter 91: Sweet and Delicious

The words spoken in the bathroom still echoed in his ears. Cheng Bing's warm embrace and soft lips were like a series of fireworks that never stopped on New Year's Eve, igniting and exploding one by one in Fang Yuenian's heart. And that wasn't enough; sparks kept popping out, stirring up his heart fire and making his mind a mess.

He thought about it all night.

Perhaps Cheng Bing's thoughts had already changed a long time ago.

My junior high school homeroom teacher had doubts, and he patted his chest and assured me: How could that be? Cheng Bing only studies every day, I've never seen him talk to any girls.

Looking back now, I realize how slow I was to the uptake. I can hardly bear to think about all the times I threw tantrums and tormented Cheng Bing.

Fang Yuenian suddenly felt a pang of self-reproach, blaming herself for not noticing the changes in her good friend.

Perhaps Cheng Bing was very conflicted and confused?

Facing one's unusual feelings inevitably involves experiencing confusion. Just like Meng Xiaoyang, who was devastated at the same stage, not only giving up his beloved badminton but also failing to get into the experimental class of the No. 1 Middle School, which almost affected his life.

Perhaps Cheng Bing also needs the approval of others.

They could do their homework and crafts in the carpenter's shop, watch fireworks in the small square on a cold night, sit side by side in the deserted forest, and slowly drink cloyingly sweet milk tea in the dark and quiet depths of the school, but their hearts might not understand each other.

However, no matter how many things kept him up at night, he always ended with one sentence:

No, I can't think about it now.

So now, he just buries himself in writing problems and doesn't dare to lift his face at all.

The two flipped through the papers noisily. During this time, Cheng Bing looked up at him three times, and on the fourth time, she finally said, "Fang Yuenian."

Fang Yue Nian's eyes widened, "Huh?"

Are you unhappy?

"No way," Fang Yuenian said, abandoning all polite language, "Nothing like that."

Cheng Bing looked at him, her eyes seemingly holding a deeper meaning, and said, "Oh."

This is a bit suggestive.

Fang Yue Nian mustered her courage and said in a voice barely above a whisper, "I'm so happy."

Cheng Bing's gaze fell on his increasingly flushed cheeks, and there seemed to be a hint of helplessness in her eyes. She forced herself to look back into his eyes and said, "Me too."

That's all for now.

Cheng Qiuyan was even more efficient. After finishing her phone call with her son, she immediately stopped pruning the fruit trees and went back inside to make cakes.

There was rice flour at home, but homemade cakes were better. Lin Guohui wasn't home, so when Grandpa Cheng heard that he was going to send some to his grandson, he came over and spent half the morning making them. By evening, the fragrant honey crystal cakes were ready. He sprinkled some sesame seeds on top, cut them up, and wrapped them up. The next day, Cheng Qiuyan went to the city, keeping track of the time.

When the bell rang at noon on Monday, Fang Yuenian went downstairs with the others as usual, intending to check on Cheng Bing. Unexpectedly, Cheng Bing's class didn't dawdle at all today and let everyone out on time. Cheng Bing was waiting at the entrance of the teaching building.

Li Peixiang rushed down the stairs and shouted as soon as he saw him, "What are you doing, Bing-ge? What are you dawdling for? Are you trying to steal my food?!"

“We’re not going, you guys go,” Cheng Bing said, then looked at Fang Yuenian, “Come here.”

Fang Yuenian: "Ah."

“Then let’s go,” Chen Yu called out. “Let’s go, let’s go.”

Fang Yuenian asked, puzzled, "Don't you want to go to the cafeteria today?"

"no."

Cheng Bing stepped aside, and Cheng Qiuyan was not far behind him, wearing a trench coat and carrying a pretty cotton bag. She called him softly, "Little Yuenian."

Fang Yuenian's expression immediately relaxed. "Aunt Qiuyan?"

"I brought you some food, let's go." Cheng Qiuyan walked over with a smile.

Cheng Qiuyan brought a lot of things, which she had placed in the cafeteria beforehand, asking a parent who was delivering food to their child to look after them.

Fang Yuenian was surprised to see her take out two glass lunch boxes, a large paper bag of delicious-looking honey crystal cakes, and a lot of other snacks and fruits from her bag.

"Aunt Qiuyan, how did you manage to carry all this stuff? It must have been incredibly heavy!"

"It's nothing, we were just in a car, we didn't walk much," Cheng Qiuyan shook her head and first placed the honey crystal cake in front of him. "I just made this last night, have a bite, it's been a while since you've had this cake I made, hasn't it? The weather is still cool, it won't spoil. You two take it to the dorm, and with all that food, you can share it with your roommates, understand?"

This happiness came so suddenly that Fang Yuenian stared at her blankly, then looked at Cheng Bing, "Oh, okay, thank you Aunt Qiuyan."

"You're welcome," Cheng Qiuyan said. "Eat up, then eat your rice. I made braised pork this morning. This lunchbox is insulated, so it's still warm. You've been eating in the cafeteria for too long. Eat some home-cooked food. Xiaoyuenian, you can have the blue bowl. I didn't put any chili in it."

Fang Yuenian was overwhelmed with mixed feelings as he listened to her instructions. He was a little stunned. Cheng Bing picked a piece of honey cake from the paper bag in his hand and handed it to him: "Eat it."

Cheng Qiuyan had actually come to the school several times, but Wang Jing didn't come often. Even if she didn't say it herself, Fang Yuenian knew that she was a little insecure, feeling she wasn't pretty enough or straightforward enough. When she did come, it was usually on weekends when there were fewer students. She would deliver large bags of things to him, then go to her dorm to tidy up before leaving in a hurry.

Fang Yuenian never thought she was unattractive, but she would never make demands that would put her in a difficult position.

When they returned to the dormitory that evening and shared the food, Meng Xiaoyang tasted the honey cake and praised it highly. Chen Yu was even more exaggerated, saying it was a delicacy and wanting another piece, but Cheng Bing refused him without hesitation, only offering him other things.

Most of the honey cakes were reserved for Fang Yuenian.

Fang Yuenian loved the taste of this pastry. However, after eating it this time, it was a long, long time before Cheng Qiuyan finally made pastries for them again. That day was probably the happiest day of the first half of Fang Yuenian's life.

Sweet and delicious food can make people forget their troubles, and this is especially true for Fang Yuenian.

Although Fang Wu would still call to pick fights and lecture him, he became increasingly able to let the calls go in one ear and out the other, quickly regaining his composure after hanging up. Cheng Bing, on the other hand, remained by his side, as calm and considerate as ever.

Spring flew by, and the days that seemed so unbearable yet so fleeting finally faded away little by little. Soon, they welcomed the 100-day countdown to the college entrance examination.

The school organized a grand rally, with each class performing a program and inviting parents of senior students to watch.

This was the last celebration before the exams, and everyone let themselves be overwhelmed by intense emotions. The gymnasium was filled with deafening slogans and applause that day, and many parents watching the performance shed tears of emotion.

However, there are always differences in performance. Take slogans for example. The slogans of the liberal arts classes are always hard to match. For instance, Class 1's slogan is "Expanding the territory and possessing the world," while Class 9's slogan is simply "Let's go to university together." Okay, as long as the emotion is there, nothing else matters.

What made Fang Yuenian happiest was that not only Wang Jing, Cheng Qiuyan and Lin Guohui came that day, but Cheng Xiaoxiao also came. She took advantage of the weekend to come home specifically to attend her two younger brothers' pep rally, and said that she would definitely take pictures and send them to Cheng Junjun.

With Cheng Bing by his side, and family members he and Cheng Bing cared about in the stands, Fang Yuenian was very content.
