Chapter 94: Childhood Sweethearts

"!!!!!! I'm out of the exam room!"

Handing in the exam paper, leaving the exam hall, and retrieving her belongings—the college entrance exam was over. Fang Yuenian mingled with the throng of examinees and rushed out of the gates of No. 3 Middle School with the flow of people.

Many parents were holding cameras at the gate, waiting for their children to come out and record this important moment. Fang Yuenian, beaming, walked through the school gate and ran quickly to the bus stop across the street. At that moment, he turned on his phone and got a signal. He immediately sent a text message to Cheng Bing.

Her heart was pounding. Many parents and students passed by, their tense nerves finally relaxing, their steps light and joyful. The bus arrived even before Cheng Bing's reply. Once on the bus, Fang Yuenian sent another message: "On the bus, so many people, but I have a seat."

Cheng Bing was going downstairs at that moment.

The staircase was crowded with people. The closing bell specially made for this year's exam at No. 1 Middle School was a piano piece, quiet and gentle, seemingly intended to soothe the excited students. However, loud and uninhibited conversations still filled the corridor. Everyone seemed to have cast aside all the pressure and stress of the past at this moment.

Cheng Bing finally got down to the first floor.

In front of the Yifu Building, their class's dormitory supervisor, who was also a student at the school, was waiting. As soon as he saw him, the supervisor smiled and waved for him to come over. Cheng Bing went over, answered some questions, and then bowed and took his leave.

He didn't stop there. He walked across the main road, through Momei Square, and quickly arrived at the men's dormitory building. He went upstairs, entered the dormitory, and found his phone.

Fang Yuenian's third text message arrived at that moment: "It's so lively on the bus! Lots of people are singing!"

Cheng Bing: "I'm back in my dorm."

Fang Yuenian replied instantly: "Brother Cheng!!!!"

Cheng Bing seemed to have imagined his expression, so she smiled and replied, "Be careful on the road, I'll wait for you at the bus stop."

"No need, I'm afraid you might do something outrageous in your excitement. Just wait for me in the dorm!"

Cheng Bing: "What outrageous thing are you going to do?"

Fang Yuenian: "You'll find out soon enough."

The dozen or so people around Fang Yuenian were coincidentally all candidates from the same school, and they were singing their school song in unison, looking very enthusiastic.

The school also has a school song, but it's difficult to sing. And there don't seem to be any students from the school on this bus right now, so Fang Yuenian just watched and listened to the excitement. However, his outstanding appearance always attracted attention. Several girls blushed and boldly struck up conversations with him along the way, and he politely replied, tactfully refusing their requests for his phone number.

Cheng Bing waited in the dormitory, and Meng Xiaoyang soon returned, followed by the cheerful Chen Yu and Wang Wei.

Cheng Xiaoxiao's call came quite early, but the dormitory was noisier than ever before. Amidst the mountain of messy books, someone's phone was playing upbeat music. Chen Yu and Wang Wei were laughing and slapping their thighs, talking about something. Meng Xiaoyang was struggling to answer Li Peixiang's call on the balcony. It seemed that the person on the other end was suggesting going out to karaoke all night.

Cheng Bing then took her phone and wanted to go out to find a quieter place.

As soon as I stepped out into the corridor, I saw several people frantically tearing up their textbooks. White scraps of paper floated down from upstairs. The dorm supervisor, unusually, didn't come out to yell at them; he was letting them run wild at this time.

Someone was leading an uncle who collects books and sells junk upstairs, ready to sell books, while others seemed to be packing up and moving out of the dormitory today, carrying large and small bags up and down the stairs—all of them were making a lot of noise.

After comparing the two, he realized that the house was better, so he went back inside.

He walked past the two people chatting animatedly and went inside, leaning against the small desk next to Fang Yuenian's bed to answer the phone.

Cheng Xiaoxiao briefly asked her younger brother how he was feeling and what his plans were for tonight. Cheng Bing said he hadn't decided yet; the class reunion was tomorrow night, and he might go out with a few close friends tonight.

"Okay, it's good that the exam is over. If there's no rush to clear out the dorms, you don't have to go back right away. Have some fun and stay in the dorms. It'll be more convenient for classmate reunions later."

Cheng Bing said, "Okay, it's fine here in the dorm. We plan to stay a few more days."

Cheng Xiaoxiao asked again, "Where's Niannian? Hasn't she come back yet?"

"No..." His words were interrupted by Wang Wei's loud laughter, so he had to put the phone to his lips. "I just texted him, and he said he's still on the bus."

Hearing the commotion, Cheng Xiaoxiao knew they were having a good time, so she smiled and said, "Then we'll wait until he gets back..."

Before she could finish speaking, Fang Yuenian appeared at the door.

He had clearly run up and was still panting. As soon as he entered, ignoring Chen Yu's shouts of "Brother Nian," his eyes quickly found his target. He casually tossed aside his exam bag and excitedly pounced on Cheng Bing, jumping up and down on her: "Whoa!"

Cheng Bing was nearly knocked off her feet by his tackle, but instinctively, fearing he might fall, she quickly wrapped her free hand around his back.

So this is what's called outrageous behavior.

Fang Yuenian's two long legs nimbly wrapped around his waist, with half of her calves dangling in the air, as she excitedly swung them around, saying, "The exam is over! The exam is over! The exam is over!!"

Cheng Bing had his neck and waist wrapped around Cheng Bing's arm, but he had already seen the astonished expressions on the faces of the others. He turned his face away with difficulty and said, "...Okay, you can get down now."

Fang Yuenian hadn't come down yet. He turned around and saw Chen Yu and Wang Wei looking at them with strange eyes. So he calmly asked, "What are you looking at? Aren't you happy that the exam is over?"

Cheng Bing ignored him and just let him wear it on his body.

He held the phone to his ear and said calmly, "He's back."

Fang Yue Nian's eyes widened immediately.

Cheng Bing noticed his reaction and whispered, "It's my sister."

The word "sister" carried immense power. Fang Yuenian jumped down quickly, stood still, took the phone, and greeted the person with a smile: "Sister!"

After this series of miraculous maneuvers, the scene quieted down.

Meng Xiaoyang swallowed hard, hung up the incessantly talking Li Peixiang on the phone, walked over to Cheng Bing and asked curiously, "Does he call your sister 'sister' too?"

Cheng Bing: "That's his sister too."

Meng Xiaoyang: "?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Yu quickly came over and asked, "What? Is she your sister or his sister? I remember Brother Nian saying that he's an only child."

Meng Xiaoyang: "I remember too."

Cheng Bing thought for a moment and said succinctly, "He's right. We have two older sisters in common, but they both live with me."

Chen Yu's jaw dropped. "Holy crap! Two?!"

Meng Xiaoyang was also quite surprised. He didn't expect Fang Yuenian and Cheng Bing to have this kind of relationship. He had always thought they were just ordinary friends from the same village. Thinking that they had been classmates for three whole years, Fang Yuenian had never mentioned this matter once. She had kept it very well hidden.

Fang Yuenian was indeed unwilling to bring it up, mainly because their relationship was not a simple family reorganization that could be explained clearly. If she insisted on asking further, it would bring up many unpleasant things, which was unnecessary.

Fang Yuenian hung up the phone. He had just heard Chen Yu swearing, and now he coughed and asked, "What were you talking about?"

Wang Wei's focus was different from the others. He stepped forward and said first, "Wait a minute, Brother Nian, the T-shirt you're wearing today looks so much like..."

"Hey," Fang Yuenian handed her phone to Cheng Bing and nodded at him, "These are Cheng Bing's clothes. I'll borrow them to try them out and maybe get some of the academic genius's exam-taking power."

Cheng Bing looked at him and chuckled inwardly.

This man came up with an excuse that was hard to refuse in order to wear his clothes. Cheng Bing had always gone along with him, let alone when he pretended to be obedient and asked for them. Apart from the clothes he was wearing today, the ones he wore yesterday were also ordinary clothes that Cheng Bing had worn many times before. They were neither new nor old, but they were full of his scent.

"Damn it!" Wang Wei shouted unhappily, "Is that even a thing? Why didn't you say so earlier? If you had, I would have borrowed one from each of you!"

Fang Yuenian: "Hahahaha, this is a unique secret technique, not to be passed on to outsiders."

Chen Yu was confused by the "two older sisters" question. "Wait a minute, Brother Nian, do you and Brother Bing have two older sisters in common?"

Fang Yuenian was quite surprised. He glanced at Cheng Bing, not expecting him to say all this. He smiled and said, "Oh, yes."

Cheng Bing asked, "What did my sister say?"

"It's nothing, just... just told us to relax a bit."

Chen Yu was still curious, "Why are they a sister in the same family? Oh, I guessed it, they must be half-sisters, one mother and one father?" He guessed wildly, "My God, I thought you two were childhood sweethearts because you were so close, but I didn't expect you two were actually brothers."

Wang Wei: "Is this how you use the word 'childhood sweetheart'? Let me tell you, your college entrance exam Chinese score is worrying."

Chen Yu: "The exams are all over, so at least don't mention the results to me in the next couple of days."

He then turned to Fang Yuenian with a gossipy tone: "So, are you two related by blood?"

"No, no, how could we be related by blood and born on the same day?" Fang Yuenian glared at him. "Let's not talk about this. Why are you all back so early? I rushed to the bus stop as soon as I left the exam hall. I didn't even stop when people at the door wanted to interview me, and I was still the last one... Oh wait, why is one person missing?"

Li Mingqi wasn't there. Meng Xiaoyang said, "I just texted him, and he's not coming back tonight."

“Then you’ll miss your chance to be on TV,” Chen Yu said, putting his arm around Fang Yuenian’s shoulder. “I didn’t even go back to the hotel after leaving the exam hall. I told my mom and quickly took a taxi back. When I came in just now, I saw someone in the next dorm scattering shredded paper on their balcony. Should we do something outrageous too? Tear up a book? We won’t be at school for more than a few days anyway.”

Fang Yuenian slapped his hand away, "I don't tear up books."

Meng Xiaoyang said, "Li Peixiang said we should go to a karaoke bar together tonight, just the few of us. Shall we go?"

Fang Yuenian turned her questioning gaze to Cheng Bing.

Cheng Bing could tell he wanted to go, so she nodded in agreement: "Okay."

Fang Yuenian waved her hand: "Excellent!" (Author's note:)
