Chapter 97: Let's just sleep like this.
Chapter 97: Let's just sleep like this.
It was almost four in the morning, and there were still people singing in the karaoke bar, their voices full of energy and their singing heart-wrenching. Fang Yuenian, who was so sleepy that she couldn't stay awake any longer, was speechless. She yawned and asked Cheng Bing next to her, "Aren't they tired?"
Then he thought about tomorrow—no, today, Class 18 has a class party today—and his brow furrowed: "I should have gone to bed earlier. What if your class is going to cause trouble like this again tonight? What are you going to do?"
Cheng Bing: "Probably not."
Fang Yuenian said worriedly, "That's not necessarily true. The more restrained they were before, the more crazy they might be now."
"It's okay, go upstairs and take a nap. You can go back to the dorm later. The party starts in the afternoon anyway."
Fang Yuenian nodded and said in a very low voice, "So are you going to drink again tonight? First of all, you can drink, but you can't go to a hotel with other classmates just because it's too late to go back to the dormitory."
"What are you thinking about?" Cheng Bing was amused by his thought process. The two arrived at the elevator door. "Let's go in."
Upon reaching the upstairs area, the reception area was lit up. Two students who looked drowsy were sitting on a small sofa nearby, while a man and a woman stood in front of the reception desk, seemingly processing paperwork; they also appeared to be students.
Fang Yuenian and Cheng Bing consciously waited at the back. They overheard the receptionist checking ID information and asked the girl in a soft voice to look up. The girl seemed to have been drinking as well. She leaned on the boy's shoulder and asked if they needed a student ID, saying that the photo on the ID card didn't look like her.
Fang Yuenian could tell from their voices that they were a couple, and a strange thought immediately arose in her mind.
After a while, he quietly squeezed Cheng Bing's hand, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "I didn't bring my student ID."
Cheng Bing said softly, "It's okay."
After the couple finished their paperwork, got their room keys, and left, the two boys next to them stood up unsteadily after being reminded by the receptionist.
The procedures were much faster this time, and the two left quickly. When it was Cheng Bing and Fang Yuenian's turn, the receptionist was clearly struck by their good looks. She was quite tired from working the night shift, but now she felt more energetic.
"Show me your identification," the older sister said.
The two presented their identification documents. Since they were from the same place and born on the same day, the first fourteen digits of their ID numbers were the same, and even the fifteenth digit happened to be the same. So when the receptionist registered them, she looked at them for a long time with surprise and asked curiously, "Are you twins?"
“No,” Cheng Bing said.
The receptionist smiled apologetically and said, "Sorry."
Fang Yuenian thought it was quite amusing to be mistaken for a twin, so she smiled and looked at Cheng Bing.
Cheng Bing kept her eyes straight ahead and didn't give any feedback.
Their procedures were completed quickly. After receiving the room key, Cheng Bing thanked them, and the two went to their room.
This was a standard double room, simple and clean. The curtains were not drawn, but outside the window was only the deep darkness of night; dawn had not yet arrived.
Fang Yuenian suddenly remembered that about three years ago, he had also shared a room with Cheng Bing, but the conditions back then were far worse than they are now; it was a rather cramped single room—he fell into a daze.
Cheng Bing asked Fang Yuenian to sit down, then turned on the bathroom light, went in to check the toiletries, and wondered if she could quickly wash up. When she came back, she found Fang Yuenian standing by the bed, not sitting down, so she asked, "What's wrong?"
Fang Yue Nian blinked and smiled silently, "It's nothing."
The hotel room was brightly lit, and he hadn't seen Cheng Bing this clearly since last night. Only now did he notice that Cheng Bing's cheeks and eyes were a little red. He squinted and leaned closer, frowning as he asked, "Brother Cheng, have you counted how many cans you've drunk?"
"I'm not drunk," Cheng Bing said calmly.
Fang Yuenian nodded. "I want to brush my teeth. Can I take a shower? Or maybe I shouldn't. I don't have any clothes to change into."
"Let me wash my face," Cheng Bing said. "I'll make do with this for now and then wash it when I get back to the dorm."
"I'm so sleepy." Fang Yuenian sighed.
Cheng Bing patted him on the back. "Let's go."
They brushed their teeth together using disposable toothbrushes provided by the hotel, which were fairly effective. The two stood side by side, brushing mechanically with droopy heads and droopy ears.
Fang Yuenian wanted to say something, so she quickened her brushing pace. After rinsing her mouth, she saw Cheng Bing still brushing his teeth slowly, so she hastily splashed water on her face, then approached him with her face still wet, staring blankly at him.
Cheng Bing looked at him questioningly: "?"
Can I sleep in the same bed with you tonight?
Cheng Bing was choked by the toothpaste foam. She tried to hold it in, but couldn't, and started coughing violently.
Fang Yuenian patted his back to calm him down, as if she hadn't expected him to react so strongly, and muttered softly, "It's not like we've never slept together before."
Cheng Bing quickly rinsed his mouth, then buried his head in water and rubbed his face repeatedly, realizing he had indeed drunk too much and was a bit tipsy. He turned to look at Fang Yuenian, choked again, and then said, "Don't talk nonsense."
Fang Yuenian gave a displeased hum, "Oh."
The two finally finished washing up. Although sleepiness and exhaustion were almost at their peak, they were inexplicably more awake. They turned off the main light, left the bedside lamp on, and lay down on the bed. Fang Yuenian felt cold from the air conditioning, but felt hot under the covers, so she really wanted to take off her shirt.
Cheng Bing lay there silently, without taking off her clothes or covering herself with a blanket.
After hesitating for a moment, Fang Yuenian got out of bed.
Cheng Bing immediately turned to look at him. In the dim light of the bedside lamp, his gaze was complicated. When Fang Yuenian sat down by his bed, he immediately sat up.
However, Fang Yuenian did not care about his sudden wariness. She slowly approached him and hugged him around the waist.
The posture was a bit strange, giving Cheng Bing a peculiar feeling, as if Fang Yuenian was a little animal seeking comfort.
In fact, the two of them are now like little animals, like two kittens with worries, a little timid, and needing each other's comfort.
"Don't you want to talk to me?" Fang Yuenian said in a muffled voice.
“…No,” Cheng Bing said softly, “Let’s talk about it after I wake up.”
Fang Yuenian rubbed his legs onto the bed, burying his face obediently in Cheng Bing's waist and abdomen, so that Cheng Bing could see his furry head when he looked down.
"I'll sleep here."
Cheng Bing reached out and gently touched the back of his neck. "Okay."
Fang Yuenian's lips curled up, and she suddenly sat up straight. Taking advantage of his inattention, she quickly leaned over and gave him a loud kiss on the cheek. Then, with sparkling eyes, she said, "I thought you would want to kiss me."
Cheng Bing was stunned by his kiss.
"You, weren't you already so sleepy?" Cheng Bing subconsciously sat up, stammering as she spoke.
After kissing him, Fang Yuenian didn't plan to go back. She braced herself on either side of his body and asked, "We've finished the exam, you know? We can say whatever we want now."
Cheng Bing's Adam's apple bobbed up and down. He didn't want to tell the truth, but he also didn't want to lie, so his expression was conflicted.
Maintaining this position was a bit tiring. Late at night, Fang Yuenian, emboldened by something, pushed Cheng Bing down onto the soft hotel sheets with a single effort.
Nothing could be more heart-pounding than this scene. The two stared at each other, their breathing suddenly becoming difficult. Fang Yuenian's legs were in an awkward position, definitely twisted, because Cheng Bing could barely move. Any slight movement made him feel completely suppressed.
Cheng Bing hesitated for a long time before finally asking in a low voice, "What are you going to do?"
“Let’s just sleep and do nothing,” Fang Yuenian said. “It’s okay, we’ve grown up.”
When it was fully light, the group left the hotel still half asleep. It was almost noon. After a quick brunch, the boarding students headed home, while Li Peixiang, burdened by his status as a rich second-generation, had to attend his next engagement.
Fang Yuenian just wanted to get back as soon as possible; Cheng Bing's class reunion was about to begin, and he needed to take a shower and change his clothes.
Chen Yu and Wang Wei kept saying they needed to catch up on sleep, while Meng Xiaoyang, pale from a hangover, also said she needed to rest. The class monitor then called to announce a class gathering the following evening, saying that after checking with the four of them, he would also call the only two female students living on campus to confirm they hadn't left yet.
Back in the dormitory, Cheng Bing was the first to pack her clothes and go to the bathroom.
Chen Yu tried to go to sleep but didn't. Lying in bed, he asked, "So what are we going to do today?"
Meng Xiaoyang sat at the table, poured himself some water, and sighed, "Packing things might take three days."
No one objected; they had said before that they would clean their dorm rooms properly as a final contribution to the school.
Wang Wei went to the restroom, and when he came out, he shook the water off his hands and casually asked, "Brother Nian, when did you and Brother Bing go upstairs to sleep?"
Fang Yuenian felt a little guilty upon hearing the word "sleep," and said, "Four o'clock, I guess."
Wang Wei: "I heard from others that they had a blast partying all night, but why do I feel so tired? Am I just weak?"
Chen Yu laughed for a moment, "It was fun during the party, but I felt a bit weak afterwards."
"Something about what you're saying sounds really off."
"Who knows what you're thinking?"
Meng Xiaoyang chuckled, stood up and stretched, "I'm going to start packing up the books now. You all stay lying down and don't get up, you're taking up space."
"How big of a stall are you going to set up?" Chen Yu exclaimed in surprise. "Are you going to take all these books home? Not a single one will be thrown away?"
"Yes, I won't throw any of them away."
Wang Wei picked up a fantasy novel from the pile of miscellaneous books on the bed board and obediently rolled onto the bed.
Fang Yuenian remained seated and asked, "If I just stay still, I won't get in your way, will I?"
The sound of running water came from the bathroom, which drew his attention, and his eyes darted around.
Meng Xiaoyang's eyes were sharp as he asked, "Aren't you tired? Did you sleep well last night, um, and this morning?"
“Okay, okay,” Fang Yuenian said, “but it’s hard to get up.”
Meng Xiaoyang scrutinized his face, her gaze also subtly and probingly observing his current posture.
Fang Yuenian put her legs down. "What are you doing?"
Meng Xiaoyang raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Fang Yuenian couldn't sit still any longer. He stood up and said, "Never mind, I'll come here." He cleared a space and jumped onto the bed of miscellaneous books. "It won't block the way."
Meng Xiaoyang gave a mysterious smile. (Author's note:)
