Chapter Sixty-Seven: The Little Star Who Was Conscripted
Zhou Ran blinked, but did not answer Zhou Jie's question directly.
Let it be a misunderstanding; that's how we get the information.
"What variety show are you talking about? What's it called?"
Find out the name, then ask Gu Tingxiao. I wonder if he's the one Xia Chengping invested in.
"Call me..." Under Zhou Ran's imposing aura, Sister Liu subconsciously wanted to say her name.
Suddenly it dawned on me that the two people opposite me weren't my superiors, so why should I give them my names?
"This is a company secret and has nothing to do with you."
"If you're going to audition, then just go and audition properly. This isn't your business."
"Hey, if it's a company secret, how could he know? Are you going to try and get him arrested?"
Zhou Ran pointed to the man who had remained silent.
This isn't readily available leverage; if I don't use it, I'd be letting down the secrets they revealed.
“He’s an employee of the company, of course he would know. Who are you? What’s your relationship with me? You think you can use this to threaten me? You’re delusional.”
He waved his hand impatiently as he spoke.
"Get out of here right now, and I'll pretend nothing happened. But if you keep making trouble, I'll make you regret it."
Xia Chengping spoke first,
"Hey! Pretty arrogant. Do you know who I am? Do you know who my dad is? You'll regret this! You dare!"
Zhou Ran patted his head to remind him.
"These are my words."
"Oh, we're all one big shot, and the feeling of bullying others by taking advantage of our power is actually quite nice."
Xia Chengping finally understood why his group of friends liked to do a pre-fight animation before they started fighting.
This part of making tough statements is really indispensable; it feels great to show off.
Sister Liu frowned. She found the two's natural attitude somewhat amusing, yet also a little uneasy. Had she really misjudged them and kicked a hornet's nest?
The two of them don't look alike; they seem more like two idiots who've just entered the scene.
His eyes held a clear-eyed folly.
If Zhou Ran knew what Sister Liu was thinking, she would definitely jump up and beat her up.
He countered her, saying that he couldn't possibly be as naive and foolish as that kid Xia Chengping; he was undeniably intelligent.
"Whoever you are, get out of here right now and shut your mouths, or you'll get into trouble for what you say!"
Sister Liu dismissed them without a second thought, believing that these two minor celebrities were nothing to be afraid of.
They didn't actually say anything outside the box.
They didn't rule out any possibility of definitive statements.
Even if there is a recording, she can still argue that she was just trying to get some resources, and that this kind of resource grabbing is all too common in their circle.
No one can call anyone despicable; everyone relies on their own abilities.
She's capable of securing resources for her stars; you can't stand it, but you can only put up with it.
In her current position, she is indifferent to the threats posed by some minor karami.
It poses no threat to her.
"Sigh...were we being underestimated?"
"Um."
Zhou Ran spoke up, her face darkening. They were putting on airs, and the other party didn't seem to care at all—what audacity!
Just as Zhou Ran was about to teach them a lesson...
A boy wearing glasses was walking by when he saw the two of them. His eyes lit up and he ran over.
He was talking non-stop.
"What are you doing here? You're late, why aren't you moving? What are you doing here? I'm so hopeless when it comes to directions. Hurry up, they're waiting over there."
Without waiting for Xia Chengping to explain, he forcefully pulled the person towards the photography studio.
"Hurry up, how can you keep so many people waiting for the two of you?"
Zhou Ran was still on Xia Chengping's back, being carried away with him.
The boy with glasses pulled me along the corridor and we turned to the end.
A balding man was already waiting at the door.
Holding a notebook in his hand, he showed a hint of anger when he saw the two of them arrive.
"What are you dawdling for? We've been waiting for the two of you. You have no sense of time at all. This is the script. Hurry up and go in. Don't delay the other people's auditions."
Before Zhou Ran could even get down, the bald man shoved a notebook into her hand and pulled her inside.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Director. The person has arrived."
Xia Chengping stood in the middle of the room, looking completely bewildered.
There was a row of tables opposite, with five people sitting there, the middle one being a middle-aged man wearing brown sunglasses.
There are two women on the left and two men on the right.
On the table in front, there were nameplates, and the man in the middle had "Director Hu" written on them.
When Director Hu saw that someone had arrived, he looked them up and down.
He suppressed some of the impatience on his face.
"Your appearance is not bad, you have a student vibe, and it doesn't look out of place. Don't waste time, here's the script, perform a short segment first. It's Act 5, Scene 1."
Xia Chengping was completely bewildered. Why were they suddenly starting auditions? What kind of drama was this?
Zhou Ran jumped off his back and casually flipped through the script in her hand.
Xia Chengping leaned closer, wanting to see what kind of script it was.
He's heard that acting is a lot of fun, and now that he has the opportunity, he wouldn't mind giving it a try.
Anyway, there's no loss.
The script should be a campus drama; turn to scene five.
The narration above reads: The male protagonist, Han Wenxing, caused trouble and was kicked out of the classroom by the teacher.
The second male lead, Xu Hantian, was implicated and was also kicked out to stand as punishment.
The two were standing outside the classroom, chatting.
According to the script, Han Wenxing is the school bully, and Xu Hantian is the academic genius.
The two had always been at odds, and this time it was Han Wenxing who deliberately picked a fight, poking Xu Hantian in the back to disrupt his studies.
The two were locked in a tense standoff outside the door, almost coming to blows, but then they discovered that the other wasn't as bad as they had thought.
"Hurry up, you can't even remember your lines, there aren't many."
Director Hu urged the two men to hurry up, seeing that they had been staring at the script for a long time without moving.
"If you can't remember your lines, just read them aloud. Let's get started."
Director Hu regrets it; he shouldn't have disliked the veteran actors for their overly crafted style.
I'm thinking of finding newcomers to act, at least those whose age and temperament match the role, who look energetic and vibrant, so that it will be good.
In retrospect, it would have been better to find veteran actors; at least that would have saved time.
It takes time to train these new actors; it's too much trouble.
"Who can't memorize this? It's just this much. Zhou, let's play a round. Who's up?"
Xia Chengping's competitive nature kicked in.
You can say Xia Chengping is arrogant, but you can't say he's incompetent.
Where can the Xia family get chicken?
"Han Wenxing." Even when acting to coax children, Zhou Ran is destined to be the lead actor.
"Okay, then I'll play Xu Hantian."
Xia Chengping was excited and eager to try.
Director Hu felt a wave of dizziness. What were these two doing?
The short guy with a baby face is going to play a cool and arrogant school bully.
He's over 1.8 meters tall and has a wicked, domineering face that makes him a top student.
They must be crazy! Newcomers are always a trap!
Ignoring the surprise of others, Zhou Ran glanced at the words "school bully" and quickly memorized them.
It's only a dozen or so sentences, so it's easy.
He casually tossed the script aside, and the bespectacled man hurriedly caught it.
Then, right under everyone's noses.
The curly-haired baby face that had looked harmless just moments before suddenly seemed like a completely different person.
He was still standing there, still the same person, but he just didn't look like a decent person at all.
He hugged his shoulders and leaned back slightly, as if leaning against a wall.
He turned his head to look in Xia Chengping's direction.
On the baby's face, there was two parts disdain, three parts indifference, four parts provocation, and one part excitement.
The first reaction of others was not that they thought the acting was good, but that someone could actually express emotions so clearly.
How did this person do it?
"Good student, it seems your special privileges in front of the teacher aren't working anymore."
Xia Chengping was not to be outdone; he became obedient in a second.
His eyes have become more reserved, like a well-behaved child.
Just kidding, he usually pretends to be Xia Cheng'an, that scheming bitch.
Pretending to be a good student is his specialty.
Everyone else was too scared to blink; one weirdo wasn't enough, so they brought in another.
How did he suddenly become so well-behaved? They didn't even blink.
With just one look, he became a well-behaved student, and even his hair was neater than before.
Director Hu's eyes lit up. He was wrong. This wasn't a newcomer; this was a real gem.
This show is destined to be a hit; these two are natural-born actors.
Wow, he's about to strike it rich.
Let's see who dares to say he has poor judgment of people.
Haha, this time I can finally get my revenge.
Xia Chengping continued acting professionally, in contrast to Zhou Ran's extremely fast speaking speed.
Xia Chengping answered slowly and deliberately.
"Teachers are the fairest. They just don't want you to waste everyone's time. If one person wastes a minute, that's half an hour for 30 people in the class. It's not worth wasting everyone else's half an hour for you."
Zhou Ran spat, "That's just sophistry. Don't try to fool me with your teacher's rhetoric. Time doesn't accumulate just because of the accumulation of individuals."
He chuckled mischievously as he spoke.
"It doesn't matter whether I get in or not, I'll be happy if you don't."
"You're sick, you're harming others without benefiting yourself, you're simply insane."
He became anxious upon seeing Xia Chengping, his face turning red with anger.
Zhou Ran relaxed again, watching Xia Chengping as if he were a joke.
"You, the good student, weren't you fearless? Why are you in such a hurry? Tch, hypocrite."
"Hello, all you do is cause trouble, harass others everywhere, and extort girls like trash."
"I extorted a girl?" Zhou Ran pointed to her nose.
“I’ve done nothing wrong, I’ve done nothing wrong. Which girl did I extort? Find her and I’ll confront her.”
"The night before last, in the alley next to the school, I saw you snatch a girl's wallet! You even forced her to buy you food."
"Damn it! So this is what you've been doing, biting me like a mad dog these past few days. Don't you good students ever ask for evidence? All you do is make baseless accusations and accuse people. Did you even get any information?"
"ah?"
Xia Chengping's face showed just the right amount of bewilderment and embarrassment, and for a moment he wondered if he had made a mistake.
He asked tentatively, "You didn't blackmail him?"
"You'd believe me? Why don't you just go and ask her yourself?"
Zhou Ran rolled her eyes, not wanting to talk to Xia Chengping, and turned her head away, refusing to communicate.
Xia Chengping wanted to ask but was too embarrassed to do so, and stood there awkwardly frozen.
Their scenes together ended there.
Neither of them continued their actions, but Director Hu did not call for a stop either.
Xia Chengping reached out and tugged at Zhou Ran's sleeve.
Zhou Ran glanced at him sideways.
"I will go find that girl and ask her clearly. If I am wrong, I will apologize to you."
Zhou Ran glanced at him but didn't say anything. The play was over, and Xia Chengping, that kid, was even trying to add more scenes for himself—a real scene-stealer.
