The secret of the school hunk: My brother is a veterinarian
"Actually... Lin Shen is my cousin." Ayuan, the school hunk, leaned against the doorway of the clinic, the moonlight casting a soft glow on his profile. "After my parents passed away, he gave up his chance to continue his postgraduate studies and opened this clinic to support me... That's how I realized he wasn't a rat-fearing bastard at all."
Xiaodou squatted in Lin Shen's office chair, his tail sweeping across the tabletop piled high with StarCraft energy chips. Lin Shen was adjusting the gear joints of Snowball (the mechanical cat), the Lingyuan tactical markings faintly visible beneath his white lab coat. He suddenly spoke, "Ayuan, go to the basement and get a can of demon world spiritual spring water to replenish Xiaodou's energy."
The iron door of the basement slowly opened, and Xiaodou's pupils contracted instantly - on the wall hung fragments of the chain from the Food Cliff in the Demon Realm, in the display case were the broken flying sword from the Cultivation Chapter and the Rat King's tooth necklace from the End of the World Chapter, and in the glass cover in the center lay a starlight embryo in the form of a Sky-Devouring Rat.
"Is this... my tribe?" Xiaodou touched the glass with his claws, and the surface of the embryo was covered with the halo of sweet grass from the fairy tale.
A Yuan sighed and pulled a photo album from the display case. "My cousin said these are all relics of the Concept Rat Tribe. Look at this photo—" The photo shows the young boy Lin Shen holding a treasure-hunting rat doll, with a steampunk gear city in the background. "He's always said since he was little that one day he'd find 'the little mouse that can eat all the worlds.'"
A yellowed medical record fell out of the photo album:
"Patient: Lin Shen. Symptoms: Intermittent memory confusion, constantly claiming to have seen flying rats. Treatment suggestion: Desensitization through exposure to rat-related objects, such as Sky-Swallowing Rat dolls and fox sword tassels."
The inscription was dated "1960s," and the attending physician's signature was "Lin Shen"—the exact same handwriting as the veterinarian in the modern chapters. Xiaodou suddenly remembered the guinea pig from the 1960s chapter of Volume 3, the hoarding rat picked up by the educated youth. It seemed to have similar gear patterns on its paws.
The mechanical cat (Snowball) suddenly rushed into the basement, and the laser pointer projected the outline of the marriage system interface on the wall: "The resonance degree of the three souls has exceeded 80%. The forces of the Heavenly Dao have located the coordinates of the modern chapter and are about to activate the final sacrifice of 'Sweet Shackles'!"
On the interface, Xiaodou's Lucky Rat form was being entangled in a golden chain, the other end of which connected to Lin Shen's Three Souls pattern. A Yuan's face paled. "Sacrifice? Are they tying my cousin and Xiaodou together?"
Lin Shen appeared at the doorway, clutching the Double-Eyed Rat Diary from the Ancient House Fighting chapter. He flipped to the last page, revealing a rubbing of the gear rune from Xiaodou's paw, which perfectly matched the "Conceptual Rat King Awakening Diagram" in the diary. "Xiaodou, your seventh rune...isn't it time to light up?"
Before he finished speaking, a final strand of fluff suddenly fell from the tip of Xiaodou's tail—an elemental fluff from the Western Fantasy story. As it landed, the gear runes finally spelled out the word "Lin Shen." Simultaneously, Lin Shen's three soul patterns fully materialized. Ling Yuan's tactical belt, Bai Yan's foxfire, and Lin Shen's glasses superimposed on him, forming a bizarre form of "three souls united as one."
Amid the mechanical cat's alarm, Lin Shen knelt on one knee and gently held Xiaodou in his arms. "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting for so long... Bai Shenyuan, Bai Yan, Lin Shen—they're all my names. And you, the Concept Rat King, whom I will protect even through fourteen lifetimes."
Xiaodou placed his claws on Lin Shen's palm, and the runes of both of them emitted strong light at the same time. The fragments of chains in the basement suddenly flew up and spelled out the word "abyss" in the void - that was the name Bai Yan called the third soul in the Demon Realm chapter.
