Chapter 231 Mermaid's Tears

The cub had to admit that he missed his father.

Just as cubs have a physiological need for their guardians, even their tiny hearts yearn for the caresses of their guardians.

In turbulent environments, guardians are the cubs' home, shelter, and everything.

The boy sighed deeply. Having been loved by his father, he no longer lacked the determination and courage to embark on his journey, nor was he afraid of the world.

But the little one is a lazy little one.

He's already met his KPI for running away from home today; we'll talk about it tomorrow.

The cub ate the small amount of fish cake that had been packed away, then spread out a tissue to cover himself so he could fall asleep while smelling the delicious aroma of the fish cake.

A second before the cub fell asleep, a car sped to a stop at the laboratory entrance, and a man in a black trench coat got out. The gust of wind they created was enough to form a powerful gust of wind in the cub's eyes.

The baby has taken off.

Thankfully, it didn't fly off.

The man caught it halfway through the journey.

"Where did this little gadget come from?"

A deep voice sounded from the other end, and Zai looked up.

Beneath the man's black top hat was an exceptionally handsome face with striking and timeless features.

A sliver of his black curly hair swayed in the breeze, and his dark eyes held no emotion, but rather a bloodthirsty glint. Moreover, upon closer inspection, it seemed as if he had sharp fangs at the corners of his lips.

It feels so heavy and inhuman...

It was so cold and aloof that it didn't seem like a social creature, but rather a fierce beast that hunted alone in the rainforest or the deep sea.

The moment the cub's eyes met his, it forgot all the anger that had just been blown away.

So now it looks like a disheveled puppy with its fur standing on end, being carried around in the other person's hand, like a small, plush toy.

"ha."

The other party seemed to be amused by the little brat.

Then, quite naturally, he stuffed the cub into his shirt pocket.

The cub, trapped deep in a pocket and unable to find its way: ...

The fabric would occasionally bulge out a small bump, then reveal a tiny handprint, showing the cub struggling and rolling inside with all its might, finally finding the edge of the pocket, wedging its head against it, and letting out a breath.

I almost suffocated.

"Hmm?" The man seemed puzzled about something, but the cub was too exhausted to pay attention to him.

So hungry...

Oh, by the way, did he eat just now?

Ask your stomach.

The stomach remained silent.

Great, it's accepted that it didn't eat anything!

So the chicks started tilting their heads back and opening their beaks, just like baby birds waiting to be fed by their guardians.

"Awaaaaaah!"

To be honest, even though the cub is just a fry right now, its incoherent speech already has an ethereal quality.

The man who picked him up was also like that; he rarely spoke and was taciturn, but when he did speak, his deep voice had an eerie and seductive quality.

Unlike the cubs, his voice is lethal.

The man seemed to be able to understand the baby's words, although he seemed to be struggling to understand them, like a human infant who had just learned to speak and could not pronounce words clearly, so he needed to try to understand for a while.

Are you hungry?

The man seemed to be deep in thought, then led the cub directly into the research institute in front of him.

"Professor Osiris, you've arrived."

The institute staff all kept their heads down, and no one noticed that besides Osiris, there was another uninvited guest swaggering in with him into the institute.

The cub showed no fear whatsoever. He stood tall and proud in the man's shirt pocket, surveying everything around him as naturally as if he were returning home.

Upon hearing that a professor was coming, the institute director, along with several students, rushed over from the side, including Qi Ranzhi and Agali.

When Qi Ranzhi saw the cub run into the professor's pocket, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

He secretly grabbed Agari's hand: "Wait, am I hallucinating? Are there mass-produced mermaid larvae? Is ours number 000-something? Is it cub 001?"

He would rather believe the cubs were twins than believe the cubs had escaped from prison.

Agari wanted to slap him awake: "Come on, do you think everyone is so lucky that fish fry fall from the sky and you can just pick them up whenever you want?"

The two of them were still whispering to each other when the cub saw them.

The kid doesn't quite understand the concept of running away from home yet, so he still dares to greet Qi Ranzhi and the others with great boldness:

"dad!"

The little cub still thinks Qi Ranzhi is his father. After all, although Qi Ranzhi verbally resists, he has actually fulfilled his responsibility as a temporary guardian, taking care of the cub's daily needs. So the cub hasn't given up his baby bird complex.

But Qi Ranzhi and Agali, who were called "Dad," were in trouble.

They clearly felt like they had become the center of attention, and, most importantly, the professor with the child was looking at them with a terrifying gaze, as if he wanted to devour them alive.

Qi Ranzhi: I wanted to cry but had no tears.

He experienced the negative effects of making the fish fry recognize a thief as their father.

At this moment, Osiris finally spoke, a grin spreading across his face, repeating each word slowly and deliberately:

"dad?"

Qi Ranzhi and Agali simultaneously slid down to their knees, a contest of speed.

They explained the origins of the cubs to the crowd, primarily to Osiris.

Of course, they concealed the fact that the cub was a baby.

If others knew, they would take it as an unspoken understanding; if others didn't know, then their actions would protect the cubs.
