Chapter 44 Waiting for him to come home

Zhou Jinze felt as if he had just had a very long dream.

In his dream, his world was polluted, people cried, were afraid, and were displaced. But in that environment, he met a tiny octopus seedling.

The octopus seedling held his hand and led him forward, dodging disasters and attacks, walking through the apocalypse. Slowly, the octopus seedling holding his hand grew up, becoming a cub, a teenager, and a young man standing shoulder to shoulder with him.

The young man, Qianyuan, wore a smile, his misty eyes gazing at him.

Zhou Jinze couldn't help but ask, "Why aren't you leaving?"

Qianyuan said, "I'm tired and need to get a good night's sleep. Don't worry about me."

"No." This was the first time Zhou Jinze had ever been angry with Qian Yuan. "You can't sleep here. You're coming with me!"

Qianyuan said, "No, I can't be with you as an evil god, and I don't have the power to stay here anymore..."

Zhou Jinze tried to reach out and grab Qian Yuan, but his hand passed right through her.

Qianyuan's body gradually became transparent.

"Zhou Jinze, thank you for loving me..."

Qianyuan cherished all the emotions she received.

This was not a tool he used to complete his mission, but proof that he was truly alive in the world.

Here, some people care about him, some people remember him, and some people love him.

Zhou Jinze tried desperately to hug Qianyuan and hold onto her, but in the end, he left nothing behind.

This little guy who brought miracles came and went in such a hurry.

Zhou Jinze knelt on the spot, his whole body like a stone statue.

"Hello."

A voice came from behind Zhou Jinze.

It was a male voice that was younger than Zhou Jinze, but very similar.

Twenty-year-old Zhou Jinze, dressed in a military uniform, walked up behind Zhou Jinze and asked, "Did you cry?"

Zhou Jinze had no interest in paying attention to him at all.

The younger version of him wasn't really in the mood to talk to Zhou Jinze, but this was probably their first and last meeting.

Qianyuan merged the timelines and corrected the accidental pollution leak, so Zhou Jinze would become him five years in the future. They would be versions of themselves separated by time, unable to meet again.

“I don’t want to talk to you either. You didn’t take good care of him at all, and you thought you were great at raising a child. In the end, you couldn’t even stop him from disappearing.”

"But he doesn't want you to die."

The young Zhou Jinze looked down at him coldly: "He saved your life, it belongs to him. He told you to wait for him to come home. Zhou Jinze, listen carefully, you can't die."

"You must wait for him, wait for him forever. This is both hope and curse."

"Even when your life comes to an end, your soul will seek him, neither increasing nor decreasing, neither defiled nor pure, neither born nor dying..."

"I hope you don't go crazy before you find him."

The young Zhou Jinze stood up, seemingly about to leave, but was grabbed by the man. His reddened eyes were devoid of emotion, only a hint of madness flashed within them. He coldly gripped the other man's collar and asked:

What did you say to him?

The young Zhou Jinze spoke with sarcasm: "Do you have very few memories together? So few that you have to steal mine?"

Few? How could it be few? No matter how many times you reminisce over a few short months, how can it compare to the decades of loneliness to come?

Zhou Jinze's knuckles were clenched so tightly they were almost white: "Tell me."

The young man was not one to tolerate such treatment, and the two eventually fought back, giving each other a good beating. They vented their anger more than they vented their frustrations, until they were both exhausted and collapsed to the ground.

At twenty, he mocked, "You're old."

Zhou Jinze only paused for a few seconds when he saw those eyes that seemed normal, revealing a flaw in his demeanor.

But for someone as young as him, he certainly doesn't have that kind of pride and arrogance now.

Perhaps that's why Qianyuan didn't choose him.

Zhou Jinze snorted: "But my soul already belongs to him. In his eyes, I am eternal."

Twenty-year-old Zhou Jinze sensed his lack of confidence and asked, "So, did you say it or not?"

Zhou Jinze: "What did you say?"

"You love him."

Twenty-year-old Zhou Jinze got up and brushed the dust off his clothes: "We didn't talk about anything, but when I left, he said he loved me."

Upon hearing these words, Zhou Jinze lay down on the ground and fell silent.

An overwhelming wave of regret washed over him.

From then on, day and night, Zhou Jinze would regret this scene, regretting that after he and Qian Yuan got together, he never told Qian Yuan about his feelings.

It's too late now.

Zhou Jinze covered his face with his hands, tears streaming down his face, but he ignored them.

His heart was dead; his lover had left him and gone far away.

Even if we met again, you wouldn't recognize me, my face covered in dust, my temples white as frost.

...

Before waking up, everyone had a dream in which a handsome young man waved goodbye to them and disappeared into the light and shadow.

After Lin Jue and Xie Mian woke up, their first reaction was to rush to Zhou Jinze's room.

But Zhou Jinze refused to open the door.

Lin Jue was so anxious that he jumped up and down. Ever since he had that dream, he had been in a panic. Reason told him that something must have happened to Qian Yuan, but fear prevented him from kicking Zhou Jinze's door.

"Move aside, I'll do it."

Xie Mian suddenly produced a chainsaw and started hacking at Zhou Jinze's door lock.

At this point, he couldn't care less about the captain's punishment. They had to see Qianyuan for themselves.
