Chapter 44 Waiting for him to come home



Just before the door was about to fall apart, Zhou Jinze came over and opened it.

The two fell silent the moment they saw Zhou Jinze.

Zhou Jinze was as if all his emotions had been drained away, turning him into an empty doll.

That's not the same as being indifferent. Zhou Jinze's eyes are now dull and his heart is empty. He's just a walking corpse.

Time seemed to stand still for him.

Lin Jue and Xie Mian exchanged a glance, then turned to look at the room, which had become increasingly cold. The familiar figure was nowhere to be seen; only deathly silence remained.

"Where is Qianyuan?" After a few breaths, Xie Mian finally managed to ask.

Zhou Jinze did not answer or pay attention to them; he simply went back to continue packing up the things Qian Yuan had left behind.

A few pieces of clothing, a sketchbook with a candy wrapper tucked inside, a rabbit doll—that's all there is to it.

Seeing Zhou Jinze like this, Lin Jue was about to explode. He pointed at Zhou Jinze's nose and yelled, "Where's Qian Yuan?! Didn't you say you were going to protect him? Didn't you say you were going to watch him grow up? Where did he go? Tell me!!"

Xie Mian stopped Lin Jue, and after a long struggle, Xie Mian finally managed to drag Lin Jue out. However, Lin Jue cried even more bitterly than when she had broken up with her boyfriend a few years ago, collapsing at the door and sobbing uncontrollably.

Xie Mian thought he now understood why Lin Jue was being punished.

But as he thought about it, he also felt his face getting wet.
