Chapter 5 Hugs

"You can have more food, but you have to cooperate with me. Understand? I'm feeding you, so you have to listen to me."

Bo Yuchuan was still muttering to him, but even if Zhang Yumiao turned into a human, he was still just a child. What could he possibly understand?

When Qianyuan realized she couldn't get any more food from Bo Yuchuan, she turned and crawled toward the other researchers.

His tentacles were used to swimming in the water, but on land he was still unsteady and staggering. When Qian Yuan got angry, he just lay down on the ground and crawled forward by pulling himself up with his hands.

The researchers watched the little cub wriggle on the ground, feeling no fear whatsoever, only a sense of helplessness, as the cub approached one of the researchers, sat on his shoe, and tugged at his trouser leg.

"Ahhh."

It's so soft and tiny, so cute!

The researcher looked at the octopus seedlings clinging to his feet and felt a tingling sensation rising up from the soft, warm touch against his feet, a sensation that went straight to his heart.

He felt lightheaded, and looking at the cub's adorable little face, he had a strong urge to bite it.

The researcher stared at Qianyuan for three seconds before giving in, closing his eyes and yelling, "I can't take it anymore! I've been bewitched!!"

Qianyuan: ?

Bo Yuchuan, that madman, didn't appreciate the goodness of the cub at all; he was still wondering why Qianyuan hadn't bewitched him.

Seeing that the human who was much taller than her ignored her and was still shouting, Qianyuan changed her target again.

But no matter where he went, the humans would just freeze and not move. Even when Qianyuan climbed up their legs and onto their heads, they still wouldn't budge.

"Waaaaah, am I going to be eaten by C-036?"

The researcher, whose head was filled with images of octopus tentacles, cried as he said, "But he's so cute! His tentacles are all so soft and plump, like jelly! What should I do? I feel like I'd be so happy if he ate me!"

Qianyuan simply patted her tears off in disgust and climbed down from behind him.

Finding herself unable to find food anywhere, Chiyuki returned to the tank dejectedly and curled up into an octopus ball once more.

Bo Yuchuan watched the whole thing, then pushed up his glasses and said, "Alright, don't be nervous. C-036 isn't aggressive at all, or rather, he doesn't like to devour humans."

"oh……"

The researchers looked somewhat disappointed.

Bo Yuchuan: ...

No, you guys switched sides so quickly?

"It seems your ability to confuse is quite impressive." Bo Yuchuan looked at Qian Yuan, seemingly already having other ideas.

Qian Yuan stared at Bo Yuchuan. Although this guy was not bad-looking and even gave him some food, Qian Yuan didn't like him much for not feeding him. She turned around and slapped the water twice, getting Bo Yuchuan wet.

Bo Yuchuan wasn't angry. He simply stopped the researcher and said, "Are there any other non-aggressive containment objects? I'd like to put them together and take a look."

Qian Yuan had no idea that his newborn cub, only two or three days old, was already being targeted by Bo Yuchuan for child labor. He was still wondering why Zhou Jinze hadn't come to feed him yet.

The cub has a poor memory and a temper that comes and goes quickly. It was obvious that he didn't fully understand that Zhou Jinze's behavior was abandoning the cub; he only knew that someone had taken him away from Zhou Jinze.

That little incident wasn't enough to completely erase the memory of Zhou Jinze feeding him.

So the little guy is still hoping his guardian will come back.

As she waited, Qianyuan drifted off to sleep again, but while asleep, she felt uncomfortable all over, as if she were on fire.

He was very familiar with this feeling; it was the pain and discomfort he often experienced when he was sick.

After only a few days of escaping such pain, when he goes back to it, he finds that he doesn't seem to be able to endure the pain as much.

"Waaah... System, why..."

The system's tone was calm: "This is the penalty mechanism when you don't gain emotional points. When you gain less emotional points than the progress stipulated by the rules, you will experience the pain of dying. As you gain more emotional points, the pain will gradually lessen, and your body will return to its healthy state."

"There's no other way. We're afraid that the hosts we choose will slack off and not work, then we'll be the ones giving away energy. So we had to resort to this tactic and only told you now."

This is a heartless system!

Qianyuan thought to himself, but he didn't even have the strength to complain; he could only let out some painful groans.

"Waaah..."

Even his tears were swallowed by the water in the jar, and no one knew how much pain he was in.

Qian Yuan gave a wry smile. He should have known that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

From beginning to end, he was the unlucky one who wasn't loved.

Perhaps because he was soaking in the water, Qianyuan couldn't stop crying even if he didn't want to. He kept sobbing, trying to vent all the suffering he had endured.

But while he was crying, the other containment cells were not so quiet.

Almost all the monsters awoke at once, showing signs of restlessness.

It was as if something was influencing them, affecting their emotions.

How could they possibly overlook that?

—The voice of that poor, helpless cub.

Where is it? Where exactly is it?

The researchers were almost sleepless tonight, each of them staying at their posts to monitor, control, and contain all the contained objects.

Only Zhou Jinze left without permission and went to a room despite being stopped.

The room where the most insignificant cub was imprisoned.

Zhou Jinze also wanted to ignore his inner feelings and not think about the pitiful octopus seedling, but when Qian Yuan was enduring pain and feeling wronged for no reason, his heart was also clenched.

He was overwhelmed by the vivid, intense emotions that surged within him, and he had no way to resist them.

Then go see him.

Zhou Jinze kicked open the door to the room, and when he saw the small, lonely figure curled up in the jar, he was speechless.

He could only hurry to the tank, reach out and scoop the octopus larvae into his arms, barely suppressing the anger rising in his throat: "Why is there no one here? Who the hell bullied you?"

It was that human.

So fierce.

But, the embrace was so warm.

When he was sick, all he longed for was a hug like this.

The little guy looked at Zhou Jinze, opened his mouth, and cried even more aggrievedly. The tiny tear fell more and more rapidly, and he cried more and more.

Zhou Jinze looked down and thought, "Fine, the octopus seedling even left one tentacle in the water so it wouldn't cry itself dry."

Zhou Jinze had never comforted anyone in his more than twenty years of life, let alone a little monster, so all he could do was say dryly, "Stop crying, okay?"
