Qianyuan knew nothing.
Qianyuan was just an innocent little octopus seedling.
Zhou Jinze watched Qian Yuan, who was engrossed in playing with his buttons, and he had so many things he wanted to say, but he didn't know how to begin.
Qian Yuan clearly had no interest in the pile of bones. He nudged Zhou Jinze and asked, "Eek?"
I'm so bored, can we leave now?
Zhou Jinze patted him on the back: "Let's go."
They then went to the second containment object.
"Containment Item B-43, the figure in the disc. She can appear anywhere in this 3-minute video, and once that person sees her, they will die within three days. The current containment method is to isolate this disc in a box filled with seals and never open it again."
Zhou Jinze sensed something was amiss, and he wasn't the type to back down, so he directly told the others, "Open it."
The other researchers immediately carried out the order; they had already prepared DVD players for reading DVDs.
As the video begins, it's a very ordinary advertisement: a family of three chatting and eating happily together, then saying to the camera: "XXX brand seasoning, tastes great!"
No one will let their guard down, even when faced with seemingly harmless videos like this.
However, compared to the joyful family atmosphere in the video, the group of people outside looked rather serious and even comical.
But no matter what they thought, the three-minute video finished playing quickly.
Did any of you see it?
Everyone shook their heads and looked at each other in bewilderment.
"How could you not have seen anything...?"
"That's really strange..."
Zhou Jinze didn't reply, but simply said, "Play it again."
No matter how many times they played the music, they couldn't find the woman anywhere.
"Captain Zhou?"
Zhou Jinze looked down at Qian Yuan, then looked at her again.
Then he said, "We can lower our guard on this containment object now; she shouldn't appear again."
Well, with the tiny octopus seedlings taking action, the contained creatures not only remained quiet but were also scared away.
Zhou Jinze wanted to confront Qian Yuan about her true colors right now, but Qian Yuan's excited and persistent way of watching the video told him that she was just a cub.
Zhou Jinze carried the octopus seedlings back with a dark expression all the way.
Qianyuan kept yawning while holding his arm.
"You're already tired?"
Zhou Jinze put Qianyuan into the fish tank to soak in the water. The little guy sat obediently, looking at his own blue octopus tail stretching out in the water, and then at Zhou Jinze's two long and straight legs.
Fine, those with eight legs are envious of those with two.
“We are different, you can’t change.”
Zhou Jinze coldly stated the truth.
The little guy's eyes immediately became watery.
He seemed completely oblivious to the difference between himself and Zhou Jinze. Wasn't he just alive and breathing? Qian Yuan was already trying her best to change into a human form.
The little guy seems to think he should grow up to look just like his guardian.
But Qianyuan's face was flushed red, and this was the only way she could look.
The system's cool voice came through: "You haven't even gained any energy, how can you continue to grow?"
"And if you don't continue to gain emotional points, the punishment will come again."
"Last time it was a warning, but this time it's not that simple."
Unfortunately, Qianyuan didn't seem to be paying attention to what the system was saying. She just patted her stomach at Zhou Jinze, indicating that she was hungry.
Zhou Jinze glanced at Qian Yuan's soft, white belly and couldn't help but mutter, "How can someone who's so picky about food grow up healthy?"
However, he couldn't be too strict with Qianyuan. He was a guardian who was fierce in words but very doting in actions, so he could only go out and prepare food for him.
When Zhou Jinze returned, he didn't see the cub that would have opened its arms to welcome him, but rather a little guy curled up, his whole body burning up.
Why are you sick again?!
Dr. Lin was urgently summoned and carefully examined Qian Yuan from head to toe, but apart from the fever, he could not find any other illness. However, the little one looked like she was suffering from some great pain, which made everyone anxious.
Ignoring everything else, Zhou Jinze summoned all the other doctors in the entire shelter.
Although everyone had other interests in C-036, after seeing the little guy's pitiful state, they all busied themselves with examining and treating him.
"At present, it seems to be just a fever. It's probably because the illness from last time hasn't fully healed and has now relapsed."
Because of fear and pain, Qianyuan burrowed into Zhou Jinze's arms again. This time, Zhou Jinze didn't push him away, but instead protected Qianyuan like he would his own cub, and asked the doctor:
"But what exactly is wrong with him?"
The doctor coughed and said somewhat awkwardly, "We've overcomplicated things. We've been treating C-036 like a special monster. Actually, his body isn't that different from a human baby. In fact, compared to a human baby, he's a very weak one."
"So it's easy for it to get sick and get infected with bacteria and viruses. This time it's probably like that; it may have caught a virus in its lungs. Also, judging from the cub's appearance, it may have memories of being sick or suffering often, which is why its reaction is so strong, like post-traumatic stress disorder..."
"There's one more thing."
The doctors all seemed hesitant to speak.
Zhou Jinze frowned: "Speak."
The doctor sighed, "The baby can't speak yet. Let's examine him. His laryngeal bones are fully developed. There's a high chance he's mute..."
With a loud "bang," Zhou Jinze accidentally kicked a corner off the bathtub.
The doctors looked at the tiny cub with sympathy. Although they still felt a little awkward, it was still such a small child, sick and huddled listlessly in Zhou Jinze's arms, which was enough to make their hearts ache.
Zhou Jinze could cover Qian Yuan's face with one hand, and he kept covering the little guy's head and covering his ears so he couldn't hear until he had vented his anger, then he let go.
Zhou Jinze knew he was finished.
He took the little guy home because he felt sorry for him, and now he can't bear to lose him.
If you soften your heart once, you will soften your heart again and again.
He also lost the courage and opportunity to question what Qianyuan really was.
Now, all he can do is pray and worry, hoping that the day will come when he has to choose a side.
Otherwise, as a guardian of humanity, would he have so resolutely chosen to protect humanity instead of Qianyuan?
"It's okay. It's okay."
He patted Qianyuan's back, as if comforting a cub, or perhaps comforting himself.
Just then, the cub seemed to sense his struggle, reached out, and tightly gripped one of Zhou Jinze's fingers.
"ah."
The little one can only make babbling sounds, but they are still sweet and warm.
