Chapter 7
Who is she?
In the office,
Jiang Fengyi spoke first.
“The assistant job isn’t difficult. I’ve asked Xiao He to mentor you. She joined the company two months before you. She’s a very enthusiastic and easy-going young woman. You can learn the job from her.”
"Your workstation is just one wall away from my office. You can contact me anytime if you need anything."
"If there's anything you're not used to, just tell me."
Xu listened quietly.
"I respect your decision and haven't made our relationship public within the company. My colleagues in the president's office will only see you as an ordinary employee."
"If my mother finds you, you must contact me immediately."
Jiang Fengyi spoke to her at length, covering every aspect in great detail, as if afraid of overlooking anything.
She was the one who brought people into the situation, so she has to take full responsibility.
Xu rarely felt such meticulous care from others. His eyes were fixed on Jiang Fengyi's red lips as they opened and closed, and a warm current kept welling up in his heart.
The warm current leaves behind a dense, itchy feeling wherever it passes, as if seeds have burrowed into the flesh and blood, beginning to take root and sprout.
Past experience has taught her that she needs to be obedient and sensible in exchange for the care and concern from others.
Xu then immediately made a guarantee to Jiang Fengyi.
"I will learn from Senior He Shuyi how to be a good assistant, and I will try my best to play the role of a partner in front of your family."
Jiang Fengyi patted Xu Que on the shoulder and said softly, "Relax, don't look so serious like you're going to war. You don't need to put too much pressure on yourself."
"Just treat this agreement like any other job; I don't want you to feel too burdened."
Xu didn't understand: "But work requires giving it your all and sacrificing a part of yourself!"
Without a job, there is no money; without money, there is no way to survive. Work is extremely important to her; it is the foundation of her livelihood. That's why she cared so much about whether she could get a permanent position.
Jiang Fengyi shook her head: "No, work is just a way to make money. For another group of people, work is just a pastime to fill the void of a boring life."
"Whether you are happy or not, and whether you are suitable for the job, is the most important thing. If you are not happy in this job, then change to another one. You should put yourself first."
Xu looked bewildered, wanting to ask but not knowing where to begin, and the room fell silent for a moment.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door.
The two, who had just fallen silent, immediately snapped out of their daze. Jiang Fengyi was the first to realize that He Shuyi must have arrived.
"Enter!"
Wu Qi led He Shuyi in.
"President Jiang, I've brought Shuyi... I've brought Xiao He with me."
Jiang Fengyi and Xu Que both turned their gazes to He Shuyi, who was already nervous, and now she gripped the hem of her clothes even tighter.
"Hello, Mr. Jiang."
"Hello, Xiao He," Jiang Fengyi said with a polite smile before getting straight to the point.
"This is Xu Que, a new employee who joined the president's office today. Xiao He, please take care of her."
Jiang Fengyi has always treated her employees well and rewarded them fairly.
"I've already spoken to the finance department; you'll receive double pay starting this month." She also respected the employee's wishes: "So, what do you say? Are you willing?"
!!
Upon hearing Jiang Fengyi's words, He Shuyi forgot her nervousness and quickly replied, "Of course I'm willing! President Jiang, if you need a senior employee to mentor a new employee when new staff come to the department, you can come to me!"
After making the arrangements, Jiang Fengyi didn't have time to stay by Xu Que's side for long.
She had just given Xu Que a few more instructions and lost track of time when her assistant, Wu Qi, reminded her, "President Jiang, there is a meeting in the main conference hall in ten minutes that requires your attendance."
Jiang Fengyi could only pat Xu Que on the shoulder: "I'm going to a meeting first. If there's anything you're not used to, you can tell me after the meeting."
After saying that, she hurriedly followed Wu Qi away.
After everyone left, He Shuyi felt much more relaxed.
Facing the big boss Jiang Fengyi, she couldn't help but feel nervous, but when she was alone with Xu Que, who had connections, she felt quite at ease. It was as if the two of them had chatted before, and there was a faint sense of familiarity between them.
"Shall I give you a tour first? You can ask me any questions you may have."
Xu replied with a smile, "Then I thank Senior Shuyi in advance."
He Shuyi was so frightened that she waved her hands repeatedly: "I don't deserve it, you... you can just call me Xiao He like President Jiang does."
Xu heard the colleague who left with Jiang Fengyi call her Shuyi, so she chose to call her the same way.
"I'll call you Shuyi, you can call me Xiao Xu or Xiao Que, it's fine either way."
"No, no, do you have a nickname? I'll call you by your nickname."
Xu shook his head: "I don't have a nickname."
The child who grew up in the orphanage only had one name; no one ever gave her a nickname.
"Just call me by my name, that's what my friends call me."
The first place He Shuyi took Xu Que to was her favorite tea room.
"If you're tired from work, you can come here to have some snacks and fruit and take a break. There are also drinks and yogurt in the refrigerator."
Xu's eyes lit up: "So much delicious food! Can I eat it?"
"Employee perks, eat whatever you want!"
Xu Que's smile deepened: "Then it seems I'll be spending a lot of time in the break room after I start working here."
He Shuyi thought that this new colleague was like the other old employees in the office, who did not eat snacks and at most drank coffee in order to lose weight. Unexpectedly, she finally got her snack buddy.
“Then let’s eat together, I also love snacks.”
She immediately tore open a bag of potato chips, took out a chip and popped it into her mouth, chewing it with gusto, while also gesturing for Xu to eat some too.
"From now on (clack clack) I'll have company when I come to the break room (clack clack) to eat snacks (clack clack), and I can just grab whatever I want (clack clack)!"
Xu smiled and agreed. This Senior Shuyi was indeed as easy to get along with as Jiang Fengyi had said.
He Shuyi, who was munching on potato chips, was in a good mood. She had thought that the person with connections would be bad-tempered and difficult to get along with, but to her surprise, the other party smiled and talked to her the whole time.
Even though it was their first time meeting, they felt a sense of familiarity with each other, as if they had had a deep conversation before.
"Come on, let me show you around your workstation now."
......
Jiang Xuan only learned about Jiang Fengyi's boyfriend joining the company after the meeting; her daughter had directly arranged for him to work in the president's office.
The office is located next to Jiang Fengyi's office.
After the meeting, she stopped Jiang Fengyi.
"You'd better explain to me how a marketing intern got promoted to a full-time position in the CEO's office? And you deliberately bypassed the HR department!"
"She is my newly hired personal assistant, and of course the HR department is unaware of it."
Jiang Xuan stared at her, his eyes sharp.
"You keep her under your nose because you suspect I'll cause trouble for her?"
She scoffed, "I'm not as free as you think."
"I keep her under my nose because we have a good relationship and I want to see her every day."
"You are my daughter!"
"I'm an adult, I have the right to make my own decisions!"
"Jiang Fengyi, you'd better stop now!"
Jiang Fengyi confronted her without fear.
"This is my business, don't even think about interfering!"
The two parted on bad terms.
Xu had already learned quite a bit about the work that the assistant needed to do from He Shuyi, and she had adapted to her new role with ease.
Xu saw Jiang Fengyi walking towards the office after finishing her meeting from afar.
She grabbed a few blank A4 sheets of paper, quickly tucked them into a folder, and walked briskly over with the hastily prepared document in hand.
As he approached, he deliberately lowered his voice and emitted a comical tone that he thought was mature and professional but was actually bubbly and low.
"President Jiang, there is a document here that needs your signature."
Jiang Fengyi couldn't help but laugh out loud after hearing her voice.
She thought it would be good to have Xu working in front of her, at least Xu would be able to tell when she was angry and would try to coax her in a low voice to make her happy.
"How did you come up with the idea of making people happy in this way?"
Xu, holding the blank document, paused in his movements.
Trying to cheer someone up? Jiang Fengyi wasn't happy, but Xu had a sudden inspiration.
She then pulled the blank A4 paper back.
Under Jiang Fengyi's questioning gaze, he explained, "Sorry, I took the wrong document. I'll get it for you again, Ms. Jiang."
Her sincere expression made Jiang Fengyi wonder if she really had documents to sign.
Xu quickly moved away from Jiang Fengyi, stood in front of the desk with the A4 paper, his back to her, dragging a folder in his left hand and quickly drawing a few strokes on it with his right.
Fearing that Jiang Fengyi wouldn't have the patience to wait any longer, she almost ran back.
"Mr. Jiang, this is the document you need."
Xu was panting heavily.
"I'm not going to run away, what's the rush? Sit down and rest for a bit."
Xu Queque didn't even bother to rest, and kept saying, "Open the folder and take a look first."
Jiang Fengyi had no choice but to open it as she wished.
With just a few strokes, a sunflower is sketched, smiling brightly at you, with a line of small print beside it that reads: "Don't be sad~ The sunflower will always face you~"
The simple and ordinary line drawing, composed of a black pen and a blank A4 sheet of printed paper, stirred up waves in Jiang Fengyi's heart.
She decided to frame the painting in a wooden frame and place it on her office desk so she could see it every day.
"Thanks."
"There's no need for thanks between us."
He Shuyi approached Jiang Fengyi after she returned to her office.
She asked curiously, "What did you give President Jiang? She seemed to be in a good mood; she even turned around and glanced at you before going in."
Xu humbly replied, "It's just a painting. Perhaps she's not looking at me when she turns around, but at everyone else who's on inspection."
Okay, whatever you say.
He Shuyi was too lazy to refute.
Around noon,
The elevator, which had been slacking off for half a day, suddenly started working and carried the person up to the 22nd floor.
bite--
The elevator doors slowly opened to both sides.
Zhao Ruxuan, wearing lambskin high heels and carrying the latest Lady Dior bag from Dior, walked arrogantly to her desk with her sunglasses still on.
Xu Que's desk was right next to He Shuyi's. After seeing this scene, she couldn't contain her curiosity and turned around to ask in a low voice.
"Who is she? Why is she only arriving at this hour?"
After all, if they came any later, they would have been off work.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the other person's luxurious and extravagant attire, as if the display case had come to life, displaying every single item for sale on their body.
"Is she in sales too? It feels like the whole office has become her marketplace."
Xu Que used to be an intern in the sales department. Her job was to introduce their own technology products to other companies, but she didn't feel that this person was a salesperson, and the sales department was downstairs.
She continued to speculate: "Could she be a model?"
"Your company has launched new businesses? It seems I'm not fully aware of them." She asked sincerely, her eyes filled with confusion.
"But do models need to work regular hours?"
"And he even sits in the same office as us, the people who need to work."
Xu's tone was too natural, and He Shuyi couldn't tell for a moment whether she was being sarcastic or stating the truth.
