Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Are you born in the Year of the Dog?

Who's engaged?

"Zhao Rufei?"

Xu leaned closer from behind: "Who is she getting engaged to?"

"Li Miao?" Xu read the name aloud after recognizing it. "Do you know him?"

Jiang Fengyi shook her head: "Never heard of it." She didn't want to know it either.

"What I'm more curious about is who sent this invitation?"

"Meow!"

When Snowball heard someone open the door, it immediately ran to the door from its nest, where it was sunbathing. Upon seeing the two familiar figures, it excitedly pounced on their legs.

"Meow! Meow!"

The fluffy white head lifted up, and seeing the brightly colored engagement invitation in Jiang Fengyi's hand, it cried out even more excitedly!

"Meow!"

Jiang Fengyi put the invitation back in the entryway and bent down to pick up the kitten.

"This isn't your new toy."

She touched Xue Tuan's round belly: "Is it really okay for the kitten to eat so much?" Its belly was stretched into a round ball, as if it was about to explode.

Hearing the noise, the aunt turned off the stove and came out of the kitchen.

"President Jiang, you're back."

She wiped the water droplets from her hands: "You saw the invitation in the entryway, right? Your mother brought it over at noon. She said it's up to you whether you go or not."

"Dinner is ready. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now."

"Take care, Auntie."

The door opened and then closed again.

"Are you going to their engagement party?" Xu asked her.

"I'm not going."

Zhao family

The house was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations, both inside and out, creating a festive and lively atmosphere.

The guests who came to offer their congratulations all had smiles on their faces and kept saying "Congratulations!"

In the living room,

Grandma Zhao was overjoyed to be surrounded by everyone; the Zhao family hadn't been this lively in a long time.

She took Zhao Rufei's hand, becoming a kind old lady, and said earnestly, "From now on, you and Li Miao should live a good life together."

She turned her head and looked at Li Miao, who was smiling broadly as she had personally chosen the item for Zhao Rufei.

He pulled the other person's hand and pressed the two strangers' palms together tightly.

Grandma Zhao smiled and said, "Now that we're engaged, we're family."

Li Miao laughed heartily and replied, "Yes, we're family!"

Grandma Zhao glanced at her, then laughed even more heartily, her wrinkled eyes narrowing into slits.

The Li family are wealthy businessmen who have risen to prominence in recent years. They had been developing their businesses in other places, but only this year have they shifted their focus back home.

Although the family's business is not as large as the Jiang family's, they have a substantial cash flow that should not be underestimated.

Before anyone in the circle could even notice her, Old Mrs. Zhao swooped in and quickly arranged a marriage for Zhao Rufei.

As for whether Zhao Rufei was willing or not, she believed that her granddaughter would definitely be of one mind with her.

As Old Mrs. Zhao and her housekeeper went to arrange the trivial matters of the engagement banquet, the sense of control she had over, making all the decisions herself, made her feel as if she had returned to the glorious days of the Zhao family.

In the living room, only Zhao Rufei and her sister, along with a cheerful Li Miao, remained.

Zhao Ruxuan inexplicably disliked this big, clumsy guy who was about to get engaged to her sister, and spoke to him with veiled barbs and sarcastic remarks.

"If you dare to make my sister unhappy after we get engaged, the Zhao family will definitely not let you off the hook."

Li Miao repeatedly assured her, "I'm too busy being good to her, how could I possibly upset her?"

Zhao Ruxuan snorted coldly: "That's true. Being able to get engaged to someone as perfect as my sister is something to be grateful for. Naturally, I'd be eager to make her happy."

Zhao Rufei shouted, "Zhao Ruxuan!"

Her sister immediately shut up and stopped targeting Li Miao.

"I'm sorry, my sister is young and can't speak properly. I apologize on her behalf."

Zhao Rufei smiled at her, and Li Miao's face immediately turned red to the roots of her neck, so shy that she started to stutter.

"No...no, it's nothing. I...I don't blame her. No...no need to apologize."

Now, Zhao Ruxuan disliked her even more and silently rolled her eyes behind her sister's back.

Are there any requirements for the engagement banquet setup?

"It depends on what you like. You decide. I'm fine with anything."

"Tsk, no opinion."

Zhao Rufei glared at her, and her sister immediately fell silent.

She turned to Li Miao and said, "It's getting late, so I won't keep you here for dinner."

Zhao Rufei personally gave Li Miao the order to leave, and no matter how unwilling Li Miao was to go, she had no choice but to leave reluctantly.

Before leaving, she turned back and said, "I'll come see you again tomorrow!"

After everyone left, Zhao Ruxuan couldn't help but ask, "Sister, are you really going to get engaged to this person?"

"You two are from completely different worlds!"

Do you like her?

Zhao Rufei looked into the distance through the still-open door, wishing she could walk out through it as well.

“Remember, whether you like it or not is not important.” She looked away. “Whether there are benefits or not is the key thing we need to consider before making a decision.”

"But do you really want to spend your whole life with someone you don't like?"

Zhao Rufei lowered her eyes, the shadows cast above obscuring the sorrow in them.

Zhao Ruxuan stood up: "If you don't want to, I'll go and talk to Grandmother for you!"

"say what?"

Just then, Old Mrs. Zhao came into the house from outside and busied herself instructing the housekeeper behind her: "The red carpet outside must be laid all the way to the living room without interruption."

"We need more flowers and the character for 'happiness'."

"And in the courtyard..."

Taking a moment from my busy schedule, I asked, "What do you want to tell me?"

"Don't bring up anything that's not about the wedding banquet." Before Zhao Ruxuan could even speak, Old Madam Zhao forcefully rebuked her and continued to instruct the people behind her, "Has the hotel menu been delivered yet? We haven't chosen the dishes for the day."

"Grandmother, does my sister really have to get engaged to her?"

"What nonsense are you talking about, child? The engagement invitations have already been sent out. Do you think we're playing house?"

"But they've only met a few times. How can they make such a hasty decision about their life's most important matter? Besides, you didn't even ask your sister if she was willing before making the decision on your own."

Grandma Zhao ignored Zhao Rufei's opinion and glared at Zhao Ruxuan, who was about to speak, stopping her from continuing.

"I don't want to yell at people on our big day. If she doesn't want to, you can go instead. You two are about the same size, so you don't need to alter your wedding dresses."

"I don't want to get engaged so soon!"

"Then shut up!"

Enraged, Zhao Ruxuan dragged her sister back to her room.

"Where were we?" After scolding Zhao Ruxuan, Old Mrs. Zhao regained her composure and continued to decide on the decorations for the engagement day according to her own wishes.

"...The lawn on the right side of the yard looks a bit empty. We'll make a flower archway and a two-story-high '囍' character there, and add some balloons and ribbons around it."

"In short, let's make it as lively as possible!"

Grandma Zhao was meticulous and insisted on handling everything herself, so the housekeeper asked, "Do we still need to find a venue and a setup team?"

"Of course you should find a professional!"

"Make sure they arrange everything exactly as I instructed!"

bedroom,

Zhao Rufei comforted her sister, saying, "As you can see, there are many things we can only go along with."

Zhao Ruxuan locked the door and rolled her eyes.

"Sister, if you don't want to get engaged, I've thought of a way."

"What method?"

She first pressed her ear against the door and heard that no one was outside, then carefully pulled Zhao Rufei into the bedroom.

She whispered, "I can run away from the wedding!"

“I was busy recording variety shows every day recently and didn’t have time to spend money. So, I’ll give you all the pocket money and bonuses I’ve received over the past few months.”

“But Grandmother said that if I don’t get engaged, I’ll get you instead.”

"You really think this engagement is all your grandmother's decision? Let's not even talk about whether the Li family will agree to it."

“Look at Li Miao, her eyes are practically glued to you. If it were me, I wouldn’t agree even if the Li family agreed.”

"If that doesn't work, I'll go with you and we'll fly abroad."

Zhao Rufei had never considered this possibility, but when Zhao Ruxuan brought it up, it was hard for her not to be tempted.

Are you really going to abandon everything and run away abroad?

Zhao Rufei's cautious nature meant she would never do anything too outrageous. After hesitating for a moment, she ultimately refused to take that step.

"Forget it," she said, unwilling to change the status quo. "Even if we go out, there will be unknown difficulties waiting for us, and life might not be as good as it is now."

Zhao Ruxuan was furious at his lack of ambition and said angrily, "Then you should marry Li Miao, who is inferior to you in every way."

"No, they have at least one advantage over you: they know how to fight for what they want!"

She turned her head away angrily, unwilling to look at Zhao Rufei's face any longer.

Zhao Rufei silently looked out the window. Through the clean and bright windowsill, she saw her grandmother talking loudly in the courtyard, and she saw patches of glaring red.

Can sacrificing oneself truly restore the glory of the Zhao family?

Is everything my grandmother says always right?

Zhao Rufei had no answer in her heart; she only felt that she had come to a crossroads in her life, with the road ahead shrouded in mist and her feet unable to see clearly.

After taking a shower, Jiang Fengyi placed the clothes she would wear the next day next to her bed to avoid repeating the embarrassing incident from this morning.

When Xu came out of the bathroom, he saw a stool and clothes that had suddenly appeared next to Jiang Fengyi's bed and couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"What happened this morning is mainly my fault."

She lifted the covers and snuggled into the warm bed.

"I didn't see clearly when I was changing clothes and accidentally wore your clothes." Jiang Fengyi, who was in a hurry to get to work, didn't have time to look and just put the shirt on herself.

That's why the two of them mistakenly wore each other's clothes that morning.

Xu Que, still slightly damp from her shower, pressed herself tightly against Jiang Fengyi's body, the sparks quickly drying the moisture off her skin.

"Do you think anyone else in the office has discovered it?"

"I...I don't know..."

The hot breath sprayed onto her blushing neck, but perhaps at first she simply wanted to chat with Jiang Fengyi.

But by this time, smelling the increasingly strong fragrance of flowers from the servants below, Xu was already tempted.

She rested her elbows on Jiang Fengyi's side, slowly lowered her head, and their skin pressed perfectly together.

Jiang Fengyi felt as if she were being electrocuted; a tingling current flowed through her body along with her blood, causing every cell to tremble slightly.

The newly changed silk pajamas easily slipped off her shoulders, revealing a large expanse of snow-white skin, but Xu mischievously left faint marks on them.

Jiang Fengyi turned her head to the side, and her fluffy head rubbed against the ground, making her neck feel a little itchy.

She reached out and pushed the person on top of her.

As expected, she didn't push him away; instead, Xu punished her by lightly biting her collarbone.

"Hiss~"

Are you born in the Year of the Dog?

The words and phrases contain the essence of spring water, and every tone of voice evokes a feeling that is hard to resist.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't help it."

She switched sides and continued, watching as Jiang Fengyi's refreshed body was covered in a fine layer of sweat, mixed with the rich fragrance of flowers, which intoxicated her as she continued to move.

Aroused, her fluids trickled down, wetting a spot on the bedsheet. Jiang Fengyi gripped the pillowcase, her fingernails snagging at the silk bedding and pulling out threads.

The heavy breathing masked some sobs that were suppressed in the throat, but if you listened carefully, you could hear a soft hum that sounded like a kitten in the mingled breaths.

The night was deep and all was quiet.

Some people, however, are working tirelessly.
