Chapter 70

Chapter 70

Measuring finger circumference

Night falls and the city lights come on.

At the banquet, everyone shed their formal work clothes from the daytime and put on dazzling and beautiful dresses.

The dim light slanted across Jiang Fengyi's skirt, making the diamond-studded skirt sparkle like a starry summer night sky.

The fabric on her legs moved with each step she took, and from a distance, it looked like a flowing silver river winding around her.

Xu followed closely behind, cutting down many newly sprouted peach blossoms.

Some people, however, were skeptical. Seeing that Jiang Fengyi had a female companion, they approached her with their wine glasses, introduced themselves, and asked if she needed a female companion.

"I'm sorry, I already have a girlfriend."

"It can be changed."

"I have no plans to change my female partner for the time being."

"Then when you're thinking about changing your girlfriend, you can come find me~"

After saying that, he took out a lipstick from his handbag, left his contact information on a tissue in an ambiguous manner, and prepared to give it to Jiang Fengyi.

Xu grabbed the other woman's wrist, preventing her from touching Jiang Fengyi, and said coldly, "With me here, she won't even think about changing her female companion."

Jiang Fengyi took a small sip of the champagne in her glass, remaining silent and tacitly agreeing.

The man who volunteered glared at Xu Que and left resentfully.

Xu tensed up, looking at everyone who tried to approach Jiang Fengyi with displeasure.

"Relax." Jiang Fengyi took a glass of wine from the waiter's tray and handed it to Xu Que. "It's a low-alcohol sparkling wine with the sweet and sour taste of green apples."

She took another small sip: "It tastes very good."

Xu tilted his head back and took a sip, savoring it carefully: "It's more like a beverage than wine."

"President Jiang," someone clinked glasses with her across the room, "your dress is beautiful!"

Jiang Fengyi raised her wine glass high, tilted it, and clinked it against hers: "The pigeon blood red on your index finger suits you very well."

"To receive a word of praise from President Jiang makes all the effort I put into winning the auction worthwhile."

Xu glanced at Jiang Fengyi's hands; her fingers were bare, without any jewelry.

"What are you thinking about?" Jiang Fengyi asked as she walked alongside Xu Que. "Why are you pursing your lips so tightly?"

At the banquet,

Indeed, no one dared to force Jiang Fengyi to drink, but Jiang Fengyi herself loved to drink.

Champagne was like a sweet drink to her; she drank it sip after sip. By the end of the banquet, she was so drunk that she could barely stand and needed Xu Que's support to stay upright.

Xu, having already informed the organizers, took the half-drunk Jiang Fengyi and left first.

On the bus,

Jiang Fengyi was unusually quiet, her long eyelashes drooping down to cover her misty eyes, her cheeks flushed a pink like peach blossoms, and her lips were moist, as if they were tinged with a faint fragrance of wine.

Xu, however, voiced the doubts that had been lingering in his heart.

"Didn't you only drink half a glass of champagne? How did you get so drunk?"

Jiang Fengyi lay in her arms. Although her body was a little uncoordinated, her speech was not affected.

"I switched the empty wine glass in my hand with the champagne glass on the waiter's tray when you turned your back."

Apart from speaking a little slower, there was no difference from usual.

Xu, wanting to know how much Jiang Fengyi had drunk, pressed, "How many times did you change it?"

Jiang Fengyi counted on her fingers: "One...two...three...oh dear, I can't count them all."

She rested her face on Xu Que's chest, found a comfortable position, closed her eyes, and slowed her breathing.

Xu shook her awake: "Go to sleep when we get to the hotel."

"But I'm so sleepy."

The vehicle had already arrived at the hotel entrance, and the bright lights of the lobby shone through the car window onto Jiang Fengyi's face.

Jiang Fengyi, who was in his arms, was blinded by the glare of the light and flinched back, turning her head to bury herself even deeper.

Xu indulged her, carefully covering Jiang Fengyi's eyes with a corner of his coat. He opened the car door with one hand and carried Jiang Fengyi out of the car with the other.

"Take a shower after you get back before you go to sleep."

Jiang Fengyi struggled to open her heavy eyelids, asking Xu Que every few seconds.

"Have we arrived?"

"Can I take a shower and go to bed now?"

Jiang Fengyi, drunk, spoke softly, and her whole body was limp. Xu felt as if the person in his arms had turned into a pool of wine, and the intoxicating aroma of wine lingered in his nose.

Xu corrected her: "It's 'sleep,' not 'take a nap.'"

Jiang Fengyi forced herself to stay awake and said, "I meant taking a nap." She temporarily suppressed her heavy sleepiness.

As they were talking, Xu had already carried her out of the elevator. After swiping his card to open the door, she put her down.

Upon landing, Jiang Fengyi's legs felt like noodles, crooked and unsteady, and she clung tightly to Xu Que's arm.

Why is the ground shaking?

"How can you stand so steadily?" It was as if your legs were firmly planted in the floor.

Jiang Fengyi could barely stand, let alone walk to the bathroom.

Xu tentatively suggested, "Shall I carry you to the bath?"

Only after the other party nodded did she make a move, carrying Jiang Fengyi forward in her arms.

She paused, stopped, and looked down. The little hand that had been messing around in front of her immediately stopped moving and guiltily looked away.

Seeing that Xu was still standing there, she gave a dry explanation.

“This part of your body is concave.”

After explaining, she couldn't resist poking the other person's collarbone again.

Xu suddenly spoke up: "Does it feel good?"

Jiang Fengyi blushed, it was hard to tell whether it was the flush from being drunk or the blush from shyness.

Xu walked a few steps to the bathroom and put the person down.

He brushed aside Jiang Fengyi's long hair that fell in front of her, revealing her delicate collarbone without any concealment.

My fingertips touched it, lightly brushing across it, like a seductive tail feather leaving a tingling, ticklish feeling on my skin.

"Your collarbone is also sunken here."

A subtle smile flickered in her eyes as she stared intently at the spot, answering the question before the other person could even ask.

"It feels very nice to touch."

"I didn't ask you that..."

"But I want to express my feelings." Xu moved closer without leaving a trace, her warm body responding to the other's curves.

The hand that lingered on the collarbone reached down.

"Not just the collarbone, the rest of the area is great too..."

"Don't tell!"

Jiang Fengyi shyly covered Xu Que's mouth, stopping her from making any bold remarks.

"Okay, okay, I won't say anything."

Xu, however, used actions to replace words.

The long dress fell away, and the sound of water pattered.

The bathroom, shrouded in white mist, was filled with the slightly intoxicating aroma of alcohol, a blend of floral and wine scents, all basking in the bright sunlight alongside vibrant sunflowers.

Jiang Fengyi's hands clung weakly to Xu Que's neck, a hint of crimson appearing at the corners of her eyes, her long eyelashes trembling uncontrollably, and with the slightest movement, the tiny water droplets hanging on them fell like beads from a broken string.

"What a nice view!"

Amidst the rising steam, Jiang Fengyi's porcelain-white skin flushed a light pink. The showerhead above her head poured water to wash away the excess alcohol fumes, leaving only the rich floral fragrance emanating from the glands at the back of her neck.

After a sharp pain,

This floral fragrance, forced to absorb the warmth of the sun, lazily stretches its body under the sun, mimicking the sunflower's posture.

...

Jiang Fengyi was exhausted and was carried back to bed by Xu, who wrapped her in a bath towel.

As soon as her body sank into the soft bed, she was so tired that she didn't even want to move her fingers. She closed her eyes, breathed shallowly, and slowly drifted into sleep.

Xu stood by the bed, quietly admiring his wife's sleeping face, before turning back to the bedroom to clean up the mess.

Under the stars and moon, in the stillness of the night.

Xu turned off the light and went to bed in the dark.

He moved closer to the only source of heat and embraced the other's soft, jade-like body. Jiang Fengyi was fast asleep and didn't move.

Xu called softly, "Are you asleep?"

The only response she received was her wife's long, drawn-out breaths.

Under the thin blanket, her hand stealthily reached down, and while Jiang Fengyi was fast asleep, she scooped up his palm and secretly measured the circumference of his ring finger.

After completing this important task, he finally fell asleep peacefully under the moonlight.

*

Zhao Rufei leaned against the headboard, glanced at her phone, and thought that her grandmother probably wouldn't call so late.

I turned off the bedside lamp, slowly slid into the covers, and closed my eyes to sleep.

She doesn't stay up all night.

It originated from a casual chat in the afternoon.

Zhao Rufei told Grandma Zhao that she had accidentally seen the changes in senior management on Li Miao's computer. What was originally just a casual chat had aroused Grandma Zhao's suspicion.

Grandma Zhao glanced at Li Miao, who was admiring the flowers outside, and whispered to Zhao Rufei, "You go back with Li Miao first. I'll have someone investigate the Li family."

Something's not right.

The sudden ringtone shattered the silence of the night. Zhao Rufei had just drifted off to sleep when the noisy phone on her bedside table instantly dispelled her drowsiness.

As soon as the call was connected,

My grandmother's angry voice came through the phone receiver.

"The Li family lied to us!"

"Their house is just an empty shell now!"

Even from this distance, Zhao Rufei could feel the anger in the words.

She said angrily, "This marriage doesn't count. The Zhao family and the Li family are sworn enemies. I'll have the driver pick you up. Come back right now!"

Li Miao slept in the second bedroom next door. Even though the house was well soundproofed, Zhao Rufei still covered the receiver guiltily, worried that she would wake her up.

Zhao Ruxuan and her driver came to pick them up.

Upon seeing her sister, she was even angrier than Zhao Rufei, the person involved.

Waving his fist, he protested, "The Li family actually committed marriage fraud! They have no morals whatsoever!"

Zhao Rufei stated the facts: "Strictly speaking, the Li family did not commit marriage fraud; it was our Zhao family who failed to investigate properly before getting involved."

Now she finally understood why the Li family had always brushed her off when she proposed cooperation multiple times. It wasn't that they didn't want to, but rather that they lacked the financial support.

Inside the car,

Zhao Rufei took a deep breath: "Fortunately, it's just an engagement. We haven't become deeply involved with the Li family yet, so it's not too late to find out now."

Now she's just glad she didn't collaborate.

"The two companies have no business dealings, so it's easy to separate them."

*

Li Miao woke up naturally.

She drew back the curtains, and brilliant sunlight poured in instantly, casting dappled golden light at her feet.

She had a beautiful dream that night, in which she and Zhao Rufei held their wedding, and the Li family regained its former glory.

She finished washing up in a good mood and went to the restaurant for a meal.

She felt a little strange not seeing Zhao Rufei.

Zhao Rufei is very strict with herself. Even when she is not working, she maintains a healthy routine of going to bed early and getting up early. She has never been seen sleeping in.

Li Miao sat at the dining table and asked the aunt who was preparing breakfast.

"Has Rufei gotten up and had breakfast yet?"

The aunt answered truthfully, "I've been busy in the kitchen and haven't seen Miss Zhao."

Li Miao put down the toast in her hand: "I'll go wake her up."

She walked briskly to the master bedroom door, finally having the chance to see Zhao Rufei's sleeping face! She suppressed her pounding heart and knocked on the door with restraint.

"Rufei, get up and have breakfast."

There was no response from inside, so she called out again.

"I'm coming in~"

Li Miao gently turned the doorknob.

Push open the door,

There was no one inside.
