Chapter 23
Remove the inhibitor patch
Steamed sea bass, celery and beef, and pea sprout and meatball soup.
The two people ate the two dishes and soup on the table absentmindedly, their minds filled with other images rather than the food.
Xu blushed, pretending to pick up some food while stealing glances at Jiang Fengyi across from her.
Unexpectedly, the person on the other side also looked over at that moment. The two gazes met, like a pile of dry grass in autumn meeting a spark, ready to ignite at any moment.
Jiang Fengyi felt the glands on the back of her neck getting hot, so she quickly lowered her eyes and whispered, "You...you shouldn't be staring at me. Let's...let's eat."
Her long eyelashes trembled gently, like a butterfly fluttering its wings on her eyelids.
Xu couldn't get enough of looking at him.
"Hmm... let's eat."
He reached for the dish closest to her, his eyes still glued to Jiang Fengyi, smiling at her as he put the chopsticks in his mouth.
"Pah, pah, pah, pah."
The burnt, bitter taste filled her mouth, but Xu quickly got up to rinse it and then took the burnt dish off the table.
"This dish is burnt and cannot be eaten."
She sat back down at the table, and after taking a bite, she belatedly realized that it was a workday and she should go to work.
"Oh no!"
"I forgot to ask for leave."
Just as Xu was about to hurriedly find his phone to make a call, Jiang Fengyi spoke calmly.
"It's okay, I've already asked for leave for you."
Xu asked blankly, "When?"
"When you were cooking in the kitchen."
Xu's eyes curved into crescents: "You're so thoughtful."
She sincerely and passionately expressed her affection for Jiang Fengyi, her clear eyes filled with his image.
Jiang Fengyi put down her chopsticks. The discomfort in the back of her neck reminded her to control her pheromones, but when she met Xu's eyes, which were as bright as stars, she was immediately struck by his beauty.
Her rational mind seemed to have snapped, unable to tell whether her neck or face was burning hotter, but she knew that her face must be incredibly red at that moment.
The quiet fragrance of the epiphyllum quietly peeked out, initially just tentatively, but later growing bolder and drifting to the opposite side.
Xu, whose mind was no longer on eating, appeared behind Jiang Fengyi without her noticing and asked in a lower, hoarse voice than usual.
"Did the inhibitor patch cause any problems?"
Jiang Fengyi shook her head.
The temperature of the skin on the back of my neck was getting higher and higher, and the inhibitor patch that I had just applied seemed to be a counterfeit patch, which did not have the effect of inhibiting pheromones at all.
However, in front of her, even the most potent inhibitor patch became just an ordinary sticker.
"You, you..."
Xu Qie's eyes were dark as he quietly inhaled the fragrance of the flowers.
Are you feeling unwell?
Before he finished speaking, his fingertips had already touched Feng Yi's shoulder, and the warmth of his palms was transmitted to her through the thin fabric.
Jiang Fengyi, whose shoulder was being put on the arm, flinched as if she had been burned, and her body trembled.
Jiang Fengyi turned around to face Xu Que. She placed her hand on his chest, trying to push away this man who had become aggressive.
Her body went limp, and her hands naturally lost their strength. Her resistance, in Xu Que's eyes, turned into a coquettish act.
Xu took her soft, boneless hand in one hand, like a child who had just received a new toy, and held it in his palm to play with it carefully.
With his other hand, he loosely put his arm around Jiang Fengyi's waist.
"Your body is so hot, why are your hands so cold?"
After ensuring that every finger was in close contact, Xu grabbed Jiang Fengyi's wrist and pressed it against his hottest chest.
"Let me warm it up for you."
Amidst the fragrance of the epiphyllum, a vibrant sunflower appears, its irresistible force entwining with the delicate floral scent.
After Xu Que released his pheromones, Jiang Fengyi in his arms gradually became dazed, tilting her head slightly upwards, her light-colored pupils reflecting Xu Que's image.
Because she was tilting her head back, her long hair fell all the way down her back, the ends of which gently brushed against the hand that was resting on her waist.
Like a kitten's tail, it sweeps its tail a few times before seducing someone, and the person being seduced will chase after it with a look of infatuation.
Xu was no exception; his burning fingertips probed deep into his hair, slowly moving upwards along his spine.
He touched Jiang Fengyi's nape without any obstruction. The skin there was more tender than other parts of her neck, and with a little pressure, a red mark was left.
Xu, however, couldn't help but soften his movements.
Tearing off the inhibitor patch, the fragrance of flowers immediately fills the air.
Xu almost got drunk and passed out among the flowers.
Jiang Fengyi could no longer stand steadily, so she leaned her entire body weight on Xu Que, burying her head in his chest to avoid being seen in her embarrassing state.
The fingertips descend, first gently stroking, then probing in circles toward the center of the gland. If the movement is too forceful and displeases the person in the arms, the fingers will patiently soothe and caress them.
Xu had no thoughts in her mind, focusing solely on serving Jiang Fengyi. Seeing the person in her arms in a good mood made her happy too.
The food on the table had long since gone cold and lost all its warmth.
The two people at the table were both incredibly passionate.
Jiang Fengyi clung to Xu Que's arm, the last vestiges of reason in her mind prompting her to speak.
"Go...go back to the room..."
"I'll listen to you."
After saying that, she didn't leave immediately. Instead, Xu lowered his head and kissed the lips he had longed for.
Jiang Fengyi wasn't wearing lipstick today; her lips were a light pink, like a peeled peach. One bite would be sweet and delicious, captivating all who tasted it.
"Hiss~"
"Are you... are you born in the Year of the Dog?"
"Does he like to bite people?"
Xu chuckled lightly: "I don't like biting people."
She buried her head in Jiang Fengyi's neck, his fluffy and thick long hair gently brushing against her cheek, and the restlessness she had finally managed to suppress began to rebel again.
The canines deep inside my tongue itch slightly, and I long to take a bite.
"It's not the right time yet," she patiently told herself.
Xu took a few deep breaths of the fragrant flowers to suppress the desire in his heart, then easily picked up Jiang Fengyi, who had gone limp, and was about to walk towards the bedroom.
"Ding-dong—"
The doorbell was suddenly rang.
Jiang Fengyi patted her: "Put me down, I'll go open the door."
In Xu Que's eyes, Jiang Fengyi's hair was disheveled, she was covered in sweat, and her fair skin was flushed with a faint pink. What attracted her attention most were her luscious red lips.
"No, you can't open the door!"
The stingy Xu would never allow anyone else to see Jiang Fengyi's current appearance; only she was allowed to see her.
Jiang Fengyi, who had a good temper, discussed it with her: "Then I'll stay here, and you go open the door?"
Xu shook his head again.
She couldn't bear to put down the person in her arms, and greedily wanted to stay with her.
The seemingly reasonable explanation was: "If someone urgently needed to contact you, they certainly wouldn't just ring the doorbell once."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the doorbell rang again.
The person in her arms looked up at her, and although they didn't say anything, their expression seemed to say: Now let's see what excuse you can come up with.
Xu immediately retorted, "How do you know if someone is someone you know just by ringing the doorbell? What if it's your neighbor next door?"
"I'm the only household on this floor."
“It could be someone from upstairs or downstairs,” Xu said, his eyes fixed on Jiang Fengyi’s mouth. “You can’t open the door to strangers if you live alone.”
"With three elevators per household, residents on other floors can't reach it..."
As she spoke, she lowered her head again, forcing Jiang Fengyi to swallow the words she hadn't finished saying.
Xu Que only stopped after Jiang Fengyi, who was short of oxygen, slapped her hard.
Straightening up, he smiled and said, "See? The doorbell didn't ring, which means it wasn't important, otherwise..."
Before she could finish speaking, Jiang Fengyi's phone, which was lying on the living room sofa, rang urgently. The sound was so loud that the two people who were still in the dining room could hear it clearly.
"Otherwise, they would call me."
Jiang Fengyi kindly finished the second half of the sentence for Xu.
She turned on the air circulation in the room and pushed Xu Que outside, instructing, "Go open the door."
Jiang Fengyi went back to her bedroom to tidy herself up.
After changing her clothes and putting on the suppressant patch, she came out to find the living room unusually quiet and empty. Looking up, she saw Xu standing at the door with his back to her, blocking the people outside with his body.
"Who's here? Why won't you let her in?"
Jiang Fengyi walked over, assuming that it was Wu Qi who rang the doorbell, bringing over documents that she couldn't handle.
Upon closer inspection, a row of people was standing outside.
Her mother, Jiang Xuan, stood outside the door with Zhao Ruxuan and Zhao Rufei.
Jiang Xuan saw her approach and said calmly, "You're here." He then turned and glared at Xu Que, "Now can we come in?"
Xu didn't care about her change of expression: "I said you can only enter after Jiang Fengyi agrees, and she hasn't agreed yet."
She took on three of them single-handedly, rolling her eyes at them one after another, leaving none of them unscathed.
Jiang's mother was furious: "Where did you find such an unreasonable person!"
“Is it unreasonable?” Jiang Fengyi glanced at Xu Que. “I think it’s good that she only listens to me.”
Xu immediately puffed out his chest proudly, like a puppy receiving praise from its owner. If he had a tail, it would surely be spinning rapidly like a propeller.
Jiang Fengyi stood behind Xu Que and glanced at the three of them: "What's going on here?"
"Rufei explained what happened yesterday to me. Today, she's bringing them to your door to apologize."
She nudged Zhao Rufei with her elbow, and the other woman immediately reacted, stepping forward with her gifts.
"We apologize; we were wrong yesterday. We hope you will accept our apology."
After she finished speaking, she pulled Zhao Ruxuan to bow and apologize.
Despite her resentment, Zhao Ruxuan still bowed and bent over as her sister instructed.
Jiang Xuan began to speak up for them: "You know Ru Xuan's personality. She's straightforward and has no bad intentions. Logically speaking, she could have easily drugged you without anyone noticing."
"But she didn't. She didn't use any underhanded or malicious schemes. She did it all for her sister, hoping that the Jiang and Zhao families would continue to cooperate."
"If you had agreed to Rufei's suggestion from the beginning, none of this would have happened."
Xu laughed in anger; how could she say such outrageous things?
"So she's not wrong, and she's not wrong either, then the fault lies with your daughter. Blame her for not being sensible and not agreeing to the Zhao family's demands sooner."
Xu crossed his arms and coldly observed the three people outside the door.
"You have such a good relationship with the Zhao family's children. Anyone who didn't know better would think they were your own daughters, and the one in the room was an outsider."
After mocking the person opposite her, she said no more, turned around, closed the door, and led Jiang Fengyi inside.
Looking at Xu Que's back, Jiang Fengyi felt a pang of emotion as she realized that her years of grievances had been witnessed.
Back in the living room, Xu opened his arms and hugged Jiang Fengyi, his eyes revealing a hint of heartache.
"Have you been living like this all these years?"
