Chapter 68

Chapter 68

Why not choose a restaurant with more privacy?

Xu raised his head blankly.

Where are you going on this business trip?

"Mirage".

Xu replied without hesitation, "I'll go with you."

I want to be by your side every moment.

Upon arriving in Haishi, Jiang Fengyi went straight to the branch office without delay.

"Are you waiting for me at the hotel?"

"I'll go with you, and we'll go back to the hotel together after your meeting."

While Jiang Fengyi was in a meeting, Xu was sitting in the outer lounge, handling matters related to the new company.

The company's latest batch of products has been launched on the market, but Xu is focused on user feelings and experience and plans to conduct in-depth research after returning.

Time flies when you get busy.

When Xu looked up again, Jiang Fengyi was already sitting in a corner of the lounge.

"The meeting's over?" Xu closed his laptop. "Why didn't you call me?"

"I came to find you after the meeting, only to find you were in an online meeting."

Jiang Fengyi suggested, "You have to manage the studio and accompany me on this business trip, and you'll still have to go to work at the company when we get back."

Her eyes showed concern: "Working like this non-stop will take a toll on your health in the long run."

Jiang Fengyi bluntly said, "Why don't you resign?"

"Resign?"

Xu looked flustered.

"You don't want me to stay by your side as your assistant?"

“Even if you’re not my assistant, you can still stay by my side.” She pulled the bewildered Xu Que out of the room. “Besides being my assistant, you’re also my marriage partner.”

"The latter identity will only make it more legitimate for you to stay by my side."

Xu was easily persuaded: "As long as I can continue to be by your side, whether I am your assistant or not makes no difference to me."

The morning was spent in meetings, and in the afternoon Jiang Fengyi decided to go to a famous local beach with Xu Que.

The journey was a bit long, and it took more than an hour of bumpy travel to reach our destination. The two even took a nap in the car.

However, when the two of them got out of the car and saw the sea view, all the long drive was worth it.

The vast expanse of blue water meets the sky.

On a weekday, and being in the far suburbs, the beach was nearly deserted, leaving the two of them to enjoy this stretch of sea all to themselves.

The crystal-clear seawater was like a transparent turquoise jelly, with snow-white waves surging and crashing onto the shore, washing the already fine sand even finer.

Jiang Fengyi bent down, scooped up a handful of fine sand, and with a gust of sea breeze, the sand in her palm followed the wind's trajectory towards freedom, finally falling back to the embrace of the beach.

"The sand is so fine."

She tilted her palm, feeling the quicksand pouring through her fingers, each milky-white grain brushing against her skin, leaving a delicate, rustling sensation.

Jiang Fengyi fell in love with this stress-relieving action. The frustration brought on by work seemed to dissipate with the quicksand. She kept scooping up sand and letting go, carefully feeling the comfort of the dry sand.

Xu, who was beside her, had already taken off his extra shoes and socks.

Barefoot on the sand, I walked step by step toward the direction from which the sea was rolling in.

The seawater gently washed over her feet, and Xu briefly experienced the comfort of being enveloped by the seawater. Before she could fully savor it, the seawater receded.

She turned around, her eyes shining as she looked at Jiang Fengyi.

"It feels so good to walk barefoot on it!" She ran back, leaving a trail of footprints on the flat sand.

"Especially when the seawater washes over your feet, it feels like the ocean is greeting you."

At Xu Que's strong recommendation, Jiang Fengyi also started wading in the water barefoot.

Stepping barefoot into the clear seawater was a novel experience for her. Turning back, she gave Xu a bright smile.

Xu, who was behind her, wanted to take a picture of his wife's back. He raised his camera and captured the moment perfectly.

Waves rolled up on the shore, splashing water at their feet, and amidst laughter and chatter, they disappeared into the sound of the waves.

Jiang Fengyi, tired from playing, left the energetic Xu Que behind, lay down on a deck chair under the shade of a tree, closed her eyes to rest, and quietly listened to the sea breeze passing by her ears.

She opened her eyes when she heard footsteps.

Xu, however, bought two coconuts from somewhere, opened them, inserted straws, and walked towards her, holding one in each hand.

"You've been out in the sun for so long, let me replenish your fluids,"

Jiang Fengyi was thirsty, so she took a sip from the other person's cupped hand. The light and fragrant coconut juice moistened her parched throat and brought her a refreshing feeling.

Chilled coconut juice is not as bland as room-temperature coconut juice; it has a sweeter taste, and leaves a refreshing coconut flavor in your mouth after swallowing.

She swallowed several large gulps, her throat moving up and down, before her dry mouth was finally relieved.

Where did you buy it?

When she spoke again, Jiang Fengyi's voice was much sweeter.

"There are people selling [something] in front of the beach." It's just a little further on the way.

Xu sat down on a deck chair next to her, enjoying the sea breeze and listening to the waves. She took a sip of coconut juice and looked at Jiang Fengyi.

Jiang Fengyi could hardly ignore the intense gaze.

"What happened?"

“At times like this, I selfishly want time to slow down and I always greedily want to prolong the time we spend together.”

Even though she spends every day with Jiang Fengyi, she still feels that they don't spend enough time together.

Xu pulled Jiang Fengyi's hand and covered his chest.

"There's always more to be wanted here."

The intense vibrations beneath the fabric synchronized with her own heartbeat at a certain moment. The raw, passionate emotion burned her so much that she wanted to pull her fingers back, but the other person pressed them down firmly.

Am I being too greedy?

“This isn’t greed, it’s…it’s…” Jiang Fengyi found an excuse for the other party, “…it’s just human nature.”

"You're too tolerant of me."

Under the witness of the sea breeze,

Xu then kissed Jiang Fengyi.

The sky was draped in a romantic pink hue, and the orange-red sunset hung in the sky, as if it were about to fall into the sea, domineeringly dyeing the entire sea surface the same orange-red.

On the coastline,

Jiang Fengyi leaned on Xu Que's shoulder, quietly watching the scene before her.

She was enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Xu, however, turned his head to look at her, also admiring the beautiful scenery that belonged to her.

After nightfall,

The sea breeze that brushed against my face was not as gentle as during the day; it was cooler and relentlessly slapped at my face.

"Let's go back."

Xu stood up and put his arm around Jiang Fengyi, who looked a little cold.

The two were pressed together, and the continuous heat was transferred to Jiang Fengyi through Xu Que. The arm pressed against Xu Que's side was the first to feel the warmth, and then the rest of the body also warmed up.

In Xu Que's arms.

Jiang Fengyi was no longer affected by the chill until she arrived at the hotel.

Jiang Fengyi came out of the bathroom after taking a hot shower, her body still steaming.

When I returned to my room, I didn't see Xu Que. When I came out, I found Xu Que fiddling with his camera on the sofa.

"Are you done washing?"

Upon seeing his wife, Xu immediately stood up and held the camera in front of Jiang Fengyi.

"Look at the photos I took!"

Jiang Fengyi looked through the photos one by one; apart from the scenery, all that remained were pictures of herself. In her ear, Xu was still passionately pouring out his heart.

"I also selected a few photos to share on WeChat Moments, and many people praised them."

After looking at the photos, Jiang Fengyi picked out a few.

"Send me this one." Jiang Fengyi chose a photo of the two of them together, her favorite one, which she planned to print out and keep at home.

At the same time, I opened my Moments, which I hadn't visited for several days, and shared a group photo without editing the caption.

She swiped a few times but didn't see Xu Que's profile picture, so she clicked directly into Xu Que's Moments from the chat box.

Nine photos in total, and coincidentally, the one in the very center is the photo of the two people she chose.

As Jiang Fengyi looked up, Xu smiled at her and spoke before she could.

"I can only say that we are on the same wavelength."

"I wanted to ask, why is there a GPS tracker at the bottom?"

“Oh, this?” The other party didn’t notice her little trick, but Xu was clearly disappointed. “Too lazy to reply to each one individually, I just sent the location directly.”

Jiang Fengyi continued to look down and scroll through Xu Que's WeChat Moments. Almost every post was related to her.

Before leaving, she turned off the screen and casually remarked, "We really are on the same wavelength, like two peas in a pod, able to choose the same photo from a bunch of pictures without even realizing it."

Xu was really easy to coax; a simple sentence was enough to bring back her smile.

He enthusiastically discussed with Jiang Fengyi, "After you finish meeting with the partners tomorrow, let's go to this restaurant and try the congee hot pot."

She had clearly done her homework: "I checked beforehand, it's very close, less than a ten-minute drive."

Jiang Fengyi hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded.

"You don't want to try the congee hot pot? Then let's go eat something else."

“No,” Jiang Fengyi shook her head, “I’m worried that there will be a lot of people tomorrow.”

Xu said confidently, "Don't worry about that. Tomorrow isn't a weekend or holiday, and I saw in the comments that there aren't many people on weekdays."

The next day,

Xu watched the third group of people leave, completely losing his temper, and slumped back in his chair.

The thick, white porridge in the pot was boiling and steaming, and she felt as if resentment was rising from her head as well.

Before she could complain, a greeting rang out again, feigning surprise.

"President Jiang, what a coincidence, you're here too!"

Xu Que: "Again?"

A well-dressed executive appeared in a bustling, quaint shop, the rising steam blurring the high-prescription glasses on his nose.

"I'm XX from XX Company, you can just call me Xiao X." She magically produced a stack of documents from her briefcase. "It's just a new project for our company, mainly..."

Jiang Fengyi pulled out a napkin and skillfully left the contact information for the company's project liaison department.

"Call this number and someone will contact you."

Jiang Fengyi politely reminded them, "It's lunchtime now, so let's not talk about work."

After seeing the others off, Jiang Fengyi finally had time to scoop out the overcooked beef shank from the pot. She scooped around in the pot with a slotted spoon a few times, but found it empty.

"I've scooped the beef into your bowl for you. It shouldn't be too hot now, just right for eating."

Jiang Fengyi looked down and saw that the bowl was piled high with cooked food.

"Eat up. You've seen wave after wave of people since you came in, and you haven't eaten much."

Xu skillfully poured fresh ingredients into the two pots, regretting, "I will never include location in my WeChat Moments again. Even if I do, I will wait until the day I leave."

“There are so many people who deliberately create chance encounters,” she said, speeding up her eating. “I finally understood the hesitation on your face last night.”

She then asked, "Then why didn't you refuse me? Why didn't you choose a restaurant with more privacy?"

"In a more private restaurant room, we definitely won't encounter these people who disturb our meal."

Jiang Fengyi ate the beef, which was at the perfect temperature. The fresh and tender meat had an extra layer of soft luster when it was wrapped in porridge, and the faint aroma of rice brought out the original flavor of the ingredients.

She swallowed the food in her mouth before replying casually.

"Because I don't want your pre-prepared research to go to waste."
